By the way...I forgot, but i have the program 2D fighter maker 2002. I know Mugen uses the program. And the game Vanguard Princess (THAT GAME HAS SUCH PRETTY SPRITES)
Maybe that could help us?

Lokii, got a link to any Vanguard Princess spritework? I'm always looking for awesome new sprites lol.

If you all are serious about this though, we would probably need a checklist of some sort.

Concept? Is it some sort of animation, or an actual fighting game? If it's a fighting game then we need a layout for why these characters are fighting. Not necessarily anything Blazblue complex, but there should be some underlying narrative, like rival gangs, or xenophobic cult bent on world rebirth. Something to give the characters a setting and reason for conflict.

Characters? Well I guess that would be... us. It doesn't have to be though. Also, 2D concept art is always a good start. What kind of "look" we want the whole thing to have is important, and why. 3D models, or spritework? Cartoonish, or realistic? Melancholy, or bright, or retro, etc.?

Engine? If it's a fighting game... thing, it has to run somehow. We need a programming team to work on how all the gears turn. Even if it's just a short animation, we would want to figure out what format to use, like Flash or whatever program.

Buuut I know I personally don't have time to work on making a(nother) game from scratch so I vote for just making sprites/concept art of ourselves as fighting game characters and forget the programming altogether. C: They could even go alongside/replace our self portraits in the OP. 'twould be fun.

Or they just hit each other!

I think instead of having a narrative, we could have a more representational theme. Maybe all the fighters are drawn in completely different art styles and are fighting each other for that reason. Of course, you could always add in gangs or cults from there. Like the abstract art cult and the anime gang etc.

iirc that's what they did for guilty gear lol.
They had a basic universal physics system and stuff, and each character was individually designed by their own small team, or each person had a different combination of characters they were assigned to, or something.

I like Geist's idea, but how would such different styles fit together in a scheme? I am genuinely curious.

I dunno, I'd have to think about that.
It also depends what you mean by scheme, do you mean like a story scheme, or like a more congruent idea scheme, or just how the gameplay would revolve around the idea?

For instance I think the abstract art fighter would attack with non-representational shapes, and could change in form; more or less the equivalent of arakune, dhalsim etc.
I'm kinda mentally forming a list of ideas for like, realism, stick figures, anime, western cartoons, impressionist, surrealism, pop art, cubism, digital. Trying to think up more without being redundant.

Wherever you want me to be... If you're female.
Hmm... How about all of us create the physics of our game...

Basically we can lay down the ground rules... how "hitpoints" are going to be allotted.. energy bars and all that. How to win a round etc...

Once we have the floor plan of what is allowed, we'll all go to our individual drawing boards and create our plans for our characters... bring them to a table and then work in groups to bring each one to life?

I agree with Tiger that we should make the rules and basic outline of the game first, then start the characters. This project seems like it should deserve its own thread :O

It's not like I suggested making a thread for it two weeks ago or anything.

Awsome! :)

So now that we have a separate thread - what could we discuss here?

I actually have that program. I was planning on using it lol. I was going to have a friend help me out though.

He's big into fighting games and the like so he was kind of interested, I'll see what I can do. Give me a week at least (exams are killing me right now).

Oh yeeaa, I remember browsing his dA gallery before, a long time ago. That guy's a monster.

It'd be great if we could get him on board for art stuffs, or anything really.

Not ghetto at all. I envy people who can render environments. I'm more of a person/character designer but it just looks like so much fun to do backgrounds/locations.

Hope you get an A on that.

Actually, after looking around the class, you're right ._.
I overcompensated a bit. Worth it :awesome:

And thank you. :D I'm more of a character guy as well, but it's fun to break out of the mould every once in a while. Plus, we were required to render a room, so, ha.

Thats a nice area, Geist, how long did that take?

I'm not normally into making rooms/landscapes...

Here's a drawing of mine, it's Leon from F-zero.

Also, can I ask what the phrase "Smash Brothers Musical" makes you guys think?

Maybe after some internet exposure one of us can become another irrelevant character on Glee.

Sweet work, as per usual joe :D

The room took me approx. 15-20 hours to finish, mostly beceause I was learning how to use Maya as I was building it. If I had to do it again from scratch, I'd say it would take about 5-8 hours.

I don't really know lol
In BC when people get a Wobble with ICs, it's tradition to break out into song. Usually don't stop me now by queen.

I've been doing a bum load of sketches for character design and class and such lately. I thought it would be cool to post a few.
I have about 10 or so in the works right now and I've finished approximately zero. :V

Also because I'm a tease and it's almost 2 am I'm just gonna upload one for now

This actually comes from in-class work. We had to draw a classmate and make them into one of our own characters, so I drew a very good looking friend.

Sidenote, I love drawing eyes

goooodnight

I will rage otherwise.

Why would you rage at someone for attending Pound though.

Haven't been keeping track of tournaments lately :( Had no idea it was this weekend.
