Definitely Ryu, duck hunt and megaman. Megaman is one of those characters everyone wanted to see back when melee was fresh, along with knuckles and tails, so it felt almost deserved when I heard he'd be coming to sm4sh. Duck hunt was a big surprise to me, I was pretty confused at 'what' the character was even going to be, but still very excited to be able to play a domesticated animal, that isn't a pokemon, in smash.
Then there's Ryu...SF4 was the first fighting game I even played remotely seriously, then I moved on to third strike, marvel vs capcom 3 and now I just play sm4sh. So when I heard RYU was gonna be in sm4sh? I couldn't even believe it. It felt really similiar to how Khao described feeling like megaman was put in the game 'for him'. It'd been a while since I played any 2d-fighter I was good at, but those are still my roots. Learning about all that good stuff like frame data, hitboxes, just general fighting game mechanics and the 'meta', all that came from street fighter and marvel for me. In both games, Ryu is an icon of the capcom franchise, but also a pretty solid character overall. Seeing him fit that same bill in sm4sh just feels right. His control scheme staying true to street fighter made me extremely satisfied as well, I still get hype about getting KO's with input shoryu's that come naturally to me with so much SF experience :D
Another surprising element to the Ryu addition is how segregated the SF/Marvel community is from the smash community, I'm certain some hardcore capcom fans were feeling salty after hearing Ryu was coming to 'that one party game that isnt a real fighter'. I doubt you'll ever see captain falcon (The most 'smash bros' character in smash imo) appear in any sort of capcom fighter.
I was actually pretty un-hype for Cloud...It felt forced and kind of cliche, as with anything 'cloud' could ever be involved with...But now that he's actually here, well i'm alright with it. Could probably use some small nerfs to limit breaks, and his dtilt just goes under EVERYTHING... Auron would have been an infinitely better choice for FF representation imo, ****, anybody from FFX would have been better than Cloud...Except Kimahri...**** him lol.
