In the first generation, I want to know anything and everything about the mew glitch. Just so that you don't start saying things like, " You can't catch Mew, you noob!", you CAN catch Mew, and in several ways(at least two.)
I have attempted twice to catch mew at the before beating the game. This is how I did it(please read, because you may have used a different way.):

"START WITH CHARMANDER.Get to Cerulean City, DON'T go to gym first. Complete nugget bridge. Go left immediately, and catch an abra. DO NOT FIGHT ThE TRAINER IN THAT SAME SPOT. Once you have the abra, walk into the trainer's view from above so that he is at the very bottom of the screen, and before he starts walking towards you, pause and teleport to the pokemon center in cerulean city(make sure that was the LAST pokemon center you went to earlier).
Your pause menu will stop working for a little while. After tele-porting, go to the gym and fight the trainer in the water. Beat his horsea.
NOW READ CAREFULLY!
You will now be facing his shelder. Bring out your Charmander if it's not already out, and use GROWL 6 times. I repeat, use GROWL 6 times before you use anything else!!! After that you should kill it.
NOW LEAVE THE GYM! Go to Nugget Bridge and walk along the left side. Before you reach the trainers, the game should pause itself. If it doesn't, you messed up and have to restart the game to try again! :urg:
UNPAUSE IT, AND YOU WILL BE FIGHTING A LEVEL 1 MEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is very hard to catch. That is my problem, because you only get one battle with it.

PLEASE HELP!!!

BY THE WAY, if you want, you can skip the gym part. Doing the "GROWL 6 times thing" is only done to get the Mew to level one. This way, after you catch the mew: save, move toward the area where the trainers are. There is an area of grass(not the one with the trainer you did the trick with.) to the left of them. Mew should be first in your party. FIGHT A LEVEL 9 METAPOD ONLY. When your fighting it, switch out to another pokemon and kill the metapod. Since the mew is sharing experience, it will get less than a certain amount of experience, so it will actually grow to level 100 :)

To Skylerocon: if you fail trying to catch it, do you get another chance? Or can you save before you move onto that spot? Also, did you read the question? I would prefer information on the glitch I talked about, but if you don't know about that one, I'll just use your way. :)

This was the Mew Glitch that was rumored to be put in by the director of Pokemon after hearing that Nintendo wanted Mew to be event only. The Mew is actually capturable (level 7) and is one of the best Pokemon in the game.
With this glitch you can catch any pokemon you want. It all depends of the area you need to go. Just see there Hexacodes. It's the easiest way to catch them all XD

If my memory serves me correctly this glitch ALSO works in Fire Red and Leaf Green. Not 100% sure if that's correct or not, but that's what I've been told.

I know about the hexacodes. The thing is that nobody has ever been able to make a for sure list of which trainer contains which hexacode. The only one that seems to have a 100% success rate is for the Mew.

Because this is the first generation, there is no easy way to do this. The best you can do is weaken it and status it. This may be easier if Mew isn't Lv1, this way it will have more HP and you will be less likely to ohko it. Without false swipe, endeavor, and such moves that prevent you from defeating weak Pokemon... catching it will be difficult. Paralysis is the recommended status condition to inflict because it lasts throughout the whole battle and it doesn't damage Mew, like burn or poison. Bellsprout or Butterfree should be able to use stun spore. If you can't get either, try getting a Jigglypuff near Mt. Moon. I don't think you can buy ultra balls at that point either. Good Luck.

Really? Could have sworn I saw a vid that had someone do it. Of course, considering it was on Youtube, it was probably someone hacking the game.

I'm pretty sure, silverline. Yeah, sometimes people don't tell you when they hack:ohwell:

Today I was able to use my strategy to get a level 100 Mew!!!!!
I'm almost out of Rock Tunnel as of now.

To ORLy: Thanks for actually reading the opening post:) Yeah, I just wanted to tell you that I still caught it at level 1 so I could get it to level 100. And this time I got lucky and I only had to use about 20 pokeballs without hurting it, paralyzing it, etc.:)

Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I didn't think I would get such good luck catching it.:)

Will the glitch for catching mewtwo described in SkylerOcon's featured video really work for Yellow version, cause I need confirmation before I restart.
It's for catching Mew, not Mewtwo. And I've gotten it to work in my blue version, but I don't know about yellow. Try asking about it on some Pokemon forums.

To Johnthegalactic: I am not sure if it will work on yellow version, mostly because that is not the strategy I use. :)

PLEASE USE THE STRATEGY I POSTED!!! IT IS THE WAY YOU GET IT TO LEVEL 100!!!:)
Plus it's faster.

I was playing Blue version some more, and I was able to catch the Mew the way Skylerocon posted! Now I have 2 Mews!!! This time I can raise it because it was at level seven when I caught it. It doesn't take much time to raise it so far.:)

I traded the one I caught in yellow version to my friend, because he was trying to raise a bunch of psychic pokemon.;)

Now that I can do the Mew glitch, I might try to do some speed-runs on Blue version. If I get a good time, I'll make a thread to show it. Then anyone else who wants to try can. I will be doing it by game time, not real time.
