Its weird that Sakurai is basing pokemon stuff more of the anime than the games. First of all, Pikachu says "pika", pokemon don't say their name in the games. They say Purrrrrao or same weird stuff like that. They put Jigglypuff who has no more game importance than any other random pokemon but they put her/him in because of anime related Japanese popularity . And finally they made mewtwo use shadow balls only because he used it in the movie and also made him talk like a human!! It was like Sakurai saw Mewtwo in the first movie and just put him in based on that. But thats good they put Pokemon Trainer over Ash though!! The trophies, all the characters in the trophies have their anime appearance and also choice to use Misty for the only gym leader trophy( wait brock may have been there too). How come he choice them as the random trophies?

Also Sakurai saw Mewtwo in the movies and got scared of his power; therefore. he didn't want to make him overpowered but ended up making him underpowered in his game.

Hmm. Lemee fish. I've got a sarcastic misty for brawl post here somewhere...
[edit]
Ah, here we go...
"i thin misy would b a great charicter tohave in brawl. heres a move list i made for her.

b: pokeball. she calls staryu, starme, goldeen, or psyduck at random. goldeen flops and does nothing, psyduck sends mind power waves to stun ppl (like wen they break they're sheilds), staryu spins around the stage horizontally in a zigzag, and starme shoots a bunch of stars (3 rows of them, ether all targeting the same person or each one points to a different person)
>b: hammer. she gets all mad like in the old show (much better than the new ones) and smacks forward with a hammer. It's very fast, but no knocback. they just fall down on the spot.
^b: starme comes out and acts like a helicopter. The top half spins and she holds onto the obttom half.
vb: togepi thro. she trhos out togepi from her backpack and it sticks to anyone it hits. then it uses metronome and afterwards it flies back to misty.

ok thx tel me wat u think pleeez!!!!"

Also, post 100.

AS long as the influence isn't something too annoying. It would be cool if pikachu just made the pika noise from the games (oh how much cooler pika would be) but it's not that big a deal. As long as the main protagonist is Red and Not Ash, I'm fine

Pikachu is in Smash because he's popular.
Pikachu is popular because of the anime.
Therefore, Pikachu is in Smash because of the anime.

That isn't true. In melee, Mewtwo was a godsend for people who liked to use combination attack. The only reason why people make up weird excuses is because they like to rely on b moves as a primary offense, when for Mewtwo, b moves were just a way to easily execute offensive combos.

Because the anime owns. :lick:

And yeah it doesn't really make a huge difference. Actually it's probably a lot better that way, I'd rather hear the Pokemon say their names instead or Purrrrraor or whatever.

And hell yes Aipom for Brawl for the ****ing win.

Mewtwo really sucked in melee.. For most people!! When Pikchu attacks he should cry out--"NzzzzKLEAOW!!"

How so?? He talks like an evil man and uses shadow balls from the movie...

It'd sound pretty bad if some really weird computer noice came out everytime a pokemon did an attack.
It sounds pretty sweet the way it is.
Not

... the way the pokemon charactres are going about is fine.
+Pikachu was easily made famous because of the anime, not yellow...
yet? hes still in... OMG IT MUST BE BASED ON THE ANIME!!...
if it was based on the game, I would love to see a hidden surfing pikachu :p
and a pokemon trainer WITH A CAMERA... who goes "SNAP!!!"
thennn it'd be based on the games

The poor little Gameboy cartridge probably couldn't handle 151 individual sounds back then, thus the blips and the bleeps.

You think Sakurai was going to use the sounds the Pokemon made based on the cries in the Game Boy games? Of course he was going to use the immensely-popular-for-its-time anime.

On another hand, the discussion is going absolutely nowhere, so this is certainly worthy of a close.
