pokemon backfire?

Why sometimes when i throw a pokeball is the pokemon able to hurt me. im the one who threw it?!

sometimes it backfires? is there a reason for this

Some pokemon hurt you AND the opponent. Like electrode.

The Pokemon believes friendly fire is ON or just fell in love with your opponenet.

Turning the sarcasm off, assuming this is a serious question:

• Electrode explodes and doesn't care who you are. I can't think of any others that act this way, though.
• For others, make sure the pokeball didn't get bounced off a reflector (Fox and Flaco's reflector, Mario's cape, Nayru's Love for Zelda, etc.), as that'll change the "owner" of the pokeball.

just in general a lot of items in brawl can backfire, lightning, timer, hammer, golden hammer, pokeballs, smartbombs, urchina, turtle, hell even the final smash can http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K289TfjXE9o which is stupid, i don't get why sakurai though it was a good idea to make half the items not work when you get them.

There's that stuff, and...were you playing as the Pok'eMon Trainer when this happened? If you switch Pok'eMon after using a Pok'eBall or Assisst Trophy, you can get hit by whatever came out.
