Pokémon Trainer Video Thread - Post, rate, discuss.

(For the first update, I am simply getting the videos that were posted in the outdated video thread and organizing them in a way that I see fit. If I happen upon some while on the forums, I'll personally, I PREFER THE AIR see to it that they get posted here. If I don't, feel free to post them here, and I'll get to them as soon as I can.)

This is an informative thread, for advice and video discussion. Don't flame, and don't go particularly off-topic. If someone derails this thread, I will see to it that there will be consequences.

In the meantime, thanks to everyone that posted videos. There are some matchups that we need more research on, and for that, we always need more. Your help is greatly appreciated. If you can think of a way to clean this list up, or make it look nicer, feel free to post it.

's good start. Might be nice to add in stock icons ( ), as well as distinguish if a particular match is Wi-fi or Offline. I'll try to help watch through these and determine if they're worth keeping or not. Just as an example, I'm relatively sure that Gimpyfish video was a "I'm trying out this character" video from near release date, and isn't really worth having in the collection.

Oh, and the coding for Captain Falcon is messed up :?

Ugh, almost all of these videos are f-old, with PT getting his arse handed... We should get more updated ones, lol.

Fixed the Captain Falcon bit.

I personally don't really like the way the stock icons look, but it is a bit bland otherwise. If anyone else thinks it's a good idea, though, I'll add them.

The WiFi/offline bit will be worked through in time. If you help, it'll make a huge difference.

Back on topic, I think it would be nice if we could get together the videos which are particularly good examples of PT play and put them under their own section. The pikachu boards have a similar thing in their video thread, with examples of anther and others being awesome.

This would be good for a few reasons.
1) It will make the forum run more smoothly. New forum goers won't have to ask over and over for names of good players.We/they won't have to watch all of Vericz's 23 matches against kirby to find the best one. Furthermore, people won't have to ask general questions about what squirt/ivy/charizard should be doing; a visual answer is much better.

2) Our discussions will stop being purely theoretical. This ties in with the latter part of the first point. We do a lot of talking in the various tactical discussions, but for many players this doesn't translate into actual gameplay changes. Often this is because we haven't backed up the discussion with videos of players actually implementing these ideas to their fullest extent.

A relevent pikachu board analogy - the QAC thread made me interested in possbilities of the technique. I tested it out myself and was happy with the things you could do. Then I watched a vid of Anther and realised that you could use it in ways I never would have thought of. Result = My QAC is way better than it was before.

Basically I think that if we group a couple good videos together, it'll really help the development of the PT metagame, as well as the skills of us board members.

Agreed. I for one (and I no I am not the best) am just bothered with how terrible some of the vids are. A collection of the more notable ones would be nice.

Also we are one of the few boards that doesnt have a Overswarm, Hylian, Mew2King, EmblemLord to act as our Champion. I suppose Reflex is trying to but just recently got active in our boards, (not knocking you Reflex.)

Hopefully Reflexs vids that are on the way will help out a lot.

We'll probably have to make do with videos of solid gameplay rather than the miracles of other boards. Still, I think it would be good. Even if we just put a brief note next to videos that have good examples ivy's bair wall/squirts shellshifting mindgames/other useful things, it would be better than nothing.

Oh and before I forget: thank you Reflex for taking the time to create and maintain the thread. It's very much appreciated.

Well, they didn't record the matches at the tournament I went to, but I saved a replay of a Grand Finals match where I 3-stocked Desu's Dedede in a little more than a minute. I'll have to bring an SD card to grab it next month.

Either way, I'll try to bring a VCR to the local smashfests to get more here.

Elliot Gale has a couple vids floating around, but they were uploaded to demonstrate charizards o-death combo. Still, he's a solid player, and they are full matches rather than simple demonstrations. I'm surprised he hasn't mentioned them on here before now actually.
