Welcome everyone to another year of PMRank! PMRank is a panel-based Power Ranking of the Top 50 Project+ players in North America. We're excited to put together another list of the best performers throughout the 30+ eligible events this year, covering Game 5 in the D #1 through Condo of Blood 2. Initially, 78 players were qualified to be ranked based on their placings and attendance at major Project+ events throughout 2023. Panelists were tasked with reviewing this data and ranking each player in order, from #1 to #78. For each player, the highest and lowest rankings on all panelists’ lists were removed when averaging votes to reduce variance. After an initial ballot, panelists were given time to discuss the aggregated results and move closer to consensus in the case of players with high standard deviations. Then, panelists submitted a second and final ballot to determine the placement of our PMRank Top 50.

This project would not have been possible without the dedicated volunteers who helped us engineer spreadsheets, track down tournament data, construct head-to-head charts, create and revise ranking ballots, write and edit player summaries, and gather photographs. A number of photographers have given us permission to use their high-quality photographs of Project M/+ players for the purposes of this project as well.

The new podium of Project+ claim their places in the final ranking article for 2024.

Set of the Season: Grand Finals vs Anther at Full Bloom 2024

For the blind, he is Dirtlight. For the hungry, he is Dirtbread. For the sad, he is Dirtjoy. But to us, he’s a PMRank staple. Clocking in for the seventh year in a row, Dirtboy is one of three players to appear on every iteration of PMRank, showing that old dogs can still hang with the new kids after earning his highest placing yet this year at #3, and his first in the top 10. As always, Dirt had a very well traveled year as he made his way to twelve different PMRank events across ten different states, and he only missed out on top 8 at two of them. Dirtboy’s year began at Exodus 2024, where he didn’t achieve the result he wanted, falling to Darc and Suvir for seventh. He did not let that stop him from bouncing back eight days later at Full Bloom 2024, where, back on Midwest soil, he beat Xtreme, Chaloopy, and fellow Michigander Anther twice to claim the gold medal. Afterwards, he made the trek over to Colorado for The Bigger Mile High Club, where he just barely missed out on top 8, falling to Imogen Heat and then Flarp for a still impressive ninth place out of 134 entrants, defeating fellow Midwesterners Che and Veka, and Canadian neighbor Erg along the way. From there, Dirt had an uncharacteristically low placement at Undertow 2024, where he lost to Mr.W&L and techboy for 17th. Besides Full Bloom, Dirtboy also won several other tournaments throughout the year across great distances including: Smash Camp New Lands in Oregon, Game 5 in the D: The Big One in Michigan, Beachin in Florida, and Condo of Blood 2 in Ontario, stockpiling along the way a large souvenir collection of wins including Cloudburst, PartyGhoul, Pikmon, Erg, Morsecode762, Shenanigans, and Blitz. Dirtboy, the man synonymous with PM/P+ Squirtle and tournament traveling, had a very strong year again across many tournaments and miles/kilometers, and he continues to live up to his moniker of Mr. Consistent.

Set of the Season: Grand Finals vs SipMastah at Tussleopolis

Long-time Yoshi main and New Jersey legend Shiny Zubat Egg Rolls his way from 15th place right into #2 by achieving placements of third or higher at six out of the seven events he went to, and at the seventh he still took a solid fourth place. Starting off his year in his home turf, Shiny Zubat Flutter Kicked his way through Aftershock, taking wins off of Mulldrifter, grealy, Shadowhawke, and Vaporeon. In Grand Finals, he reset and then had a clean 3-0 against Jodeci Joestar to get revenge for knocking him into the Losers bracket. Zubat then rolled out to the mountains to swallow up third place at one of the most stacked events of the year, The Bigger Mile High Club. He didn’t drop a single game as he chewed through Ntire, sfy bees, and Av, and then he continued to top 8 after taking game five off Pikmon. In top 8, he beat Suvir before he bowed out at a respectable third place. Zubat showed off how Shiny he is by claiming first or second place in the next four events he went to: Terminal Velocity, Garden Brawl, Undertow, and Tusselopolis. At these events alone, Shiny Zubat amassed an amazing collection of wins with 22 victorious sets off of 2023 PMRank players or PMRank potential players (wow!), and he wasn't even done yet. Finishing off his impressive year back on the East Coast, he traveled up to Massachusetts for Mass Madness Deluxe. On his fight to the top, Zubat added Serb and ~CP9~ to his win count before being eliminated at fourth place. After taking 15th in 2023, we got to see how proficient high-level Yoshi really is as Shiny Zubat Egg Rolls in at #2.

Parker “SipMastah” Boring is just soOOooOOoo good at eeeeeverything he does. He sips the best, so he calls himself the SipMastah. He picked up a new character in like two days, so he must be the MainMastah. And now that he’s the #1 ranked player in Project+, I gotta call him the P+Mastah??? Oh BROTHER…

In all seriousness, it is with utmost joy and honor to crown 2024’s #1 to a player most deserving, SipMastah! Making his PMRank debut back in our inaugural year of 2016 at a Masterful 22nd place, back in the days of his previous moniker Boringman, SipMastah gradually climbed the ranks year after year. Never dropping out of the Top 20 from 2017 on, he ascended higher and higher in the ranks breaking into the Top 10 in the post-COVID era of P+ and making a home among those at the summit. In 2024, SipMastah grew weary of his residence at the bottom of the Top 10 and made a gun for the crown, allowing very little to stand in his quest. SipMastah only dropped four sets in total the entire year with only three unique losses. Flarp, Sneez and Shiny Zubat, all Top 5 players, were the few to chip away at SipMastah, with only Zubat managing to steal gold from his grasp one time. SipMastah placed first at all of his other events: Warehouse War 4, Exodus, and The Bigger Mile Club. Using his wide arsenal of characters, SipMastah laid waste to the likes of Shiny Zubat, Sneez, Chaloopy, Pikmon, Jagz$, Comb, metroid, Imogen Heat, ~CP9~, essy, Suvir, evil lesbian, Shadowhawke, Stude…basically the entire competition to secure victory in his quest for the top. Now comfortably at the top, what will he do? Well, he intends to defend his title. After not seeing a consistent #1 rank player since his fellow NorCal native and friend, ThundeRzReiGN held the title of #1 for 2016 and 2017, SipMastah looks to change that and become the next player to be #1 in back to back years. As a new year brings changes and new challenges, you’ll find SipMastah sitting down and plugging in at any bracket he can get to, welcoming any who wish to step up and take a swing at the newly crowned king.
