Welcome everyone to another year of PMRank! PMRank is a panel-based Power Ranking of the Top 50 Project+ players in North America. We're excited to put together another list of the best performers throughout the 30+ eligible events this year, covering Game 5 in the D #1 through Condo of Blood 2. Initially, 78 players were qualified to be ranked based on their placings and attendance at major Project+ events throughout 2023. Panelists were tasked with reviewing this data and ranking each player in order, from #1 to #78. For each player, the highest and lowest rankings on all panelists’ lists were removed when averaging votes to reduce variance. After an initial ballot, panelists were given time to discuss the aggregated results and move closer to consensus in the case of players with high standard deviations. Then, panelists submitted a second and final ballot to determine the placement of our PMRank Top 50.

This project would not have been possible without the dedicated volunteers who helped us engineer spreadsheets, track down tournament data, construct head-to-head charts, create and revise ranking ballots, write and edit player summaries, and gather photographs. A number of photographers have given us permission to use their high-quality photographs of Project M/+ players for the purposes of this project as well.

Players both new and accustomed to the top echelon of competition make their 2024 debuts today.

Set of the Season: Losers Finals vs Chaloopy @ Full Bloom 2024

The Game 5 in the D tournament series revived the Michigan Project+ scene starting at the beginning of 2024, and with it came the awakening of a long-slumbering giant of the game - Anther, the pinnacle of Project Plus Pikachu. Starting with the first edition of Game 5 in the D in January, Anther had a strong performance at a time when many were questioning how he would fair in the current meta. Anther ended his first tournament of 2024 at a respectable fifth place, dropping sets to Veka and Star, but picking up wins on SoulOfficer and Ellipsis along the way. As Full Bloom 2024 was approaching just the next month, the rungs were starting to piece together for the Midwest titan’s ladder back to the top, and, as it turned out, one month made quite the difference. Anther finished second out of the 84 entrants, holding off the Midwest’s old guards of metroid and Chaloopy, as well as out of region invaders such as ~CP9~, with only fellow Michigadner Dirtboy being the one to stop the electric mouse main in his tracks. Anther didn’t make another PMRank event until Game 5 in the D #4: The Canadian Invasion, where, again, he finished in second place. Titanium, Ellipsis, and even Rongunshu at first couldn’t stop Anther from the Grand Finals finish. It was electrifying to see Anther’s return this year, and we hope to continue to see his Pikachu shock future brackets.

Losers Quarters vs Dirtboy @ Warehouse War 4

At this point, there are very few people you can ask “Have You Seen Him?” when talking about Switch and have them NOT know who you mean. Juggling three games in P+, HDR, and Rivals 2, Switch has shown it doesn’t matter what game it may be, he will be nothing less than a top tier threat in anything he pursues. While Switch's multi-game accolades can be listed on and on, we’re here to talk about the game Switch has called home for many years now. So how did P+’s version of “The Kid” make his way back to the top? In his travels for Rivals, Switch entered P+ wherever he could, and he had consistent top placings with nothing lower than his fifth place at Undertow. Switch didn’t lose to anyone outside the Top 20 in this year's events, all while showing off shades of his prime. Throughout his endeavors, Switch seized victory over heavy hitters such as Flarp, Dirtboy, Hyperflame and ORLY. He even defended his home turf of NJ and the game against Melee titan Aklo in a banger game five set at Garden Brawl. Project M/Project+ has a long list of names that you can argue have defined the game and what it has become, and these people are simply put - “legends.” Everyone in the community can agree that Switch is absolutely one of those names that you would put somewhere in, if not at, the very top of that list. Countless hours of streams and multiple combo videos, driving anyone and everyone who asked to events over the years, a list of tournament victories and podium placements that stretch as far as you can see all while carrying the meta for one of the game’s higher skill characters 一 Switch's impact on the game is nothing short of monumental and he continues to only make it bigger. Even though his sights have shifted to gold in a new game, if you see a P+ bracket near the lands of Aether, you’ll be sure to hear the echoes of Wolf’s Flash and howl not long after.

Grand Finals vs Dirtboy at Smash Camp: New Lands 2024

They just let any old CHEATER waltz into Top 10 these days, huh? Well, congrats to Peter “Pikmon” for making his return to PMRank Top 10 at #8. Utilizing his ever growing arsenal of tricks and tactics, Pikmon didn’t place below fourth at any of his PMRank event appearances, and he only met the smell of defeat from one player outside the Top 10. Pikmon hit the ground sprinting at The Bigger Mile High Club, and we watched him Quickdraw through the likes of Tuck, Hyperflame, Serb, Ellipsis, WouldSmokeCraq and Flarp. He was only stopped by two players in contention for this year’s #1 spot, SipMastah and Shiny Zubat. From the Rocky Mountains major, Pikmon had a quieter but just as powerful year compared to rankings past. At Smash Camp, he finished second to Dirtboy with wins over PartyGhoul, Stude, and he even reset the bracket before ultimately falling to the Squirtle aficionado. Pikmon closed out his year with Carnival Clash claiming wins over his fellow WAPM Top 50 Zushi and PartyGhoul again. Pikmon has been a PMRank staple since its inception and has not been absent from it since - a feat very few can also say they have pulled off. With an inaugural placing of #41 back in 2016 and placing in the Top 10 multiple times since then, Pikmon continues an illustrious PM/P+ career as this year’s #8. Whether you love or hate to see him cheat win, Pikmon has been one of the greatest PM/P+ players to ever do it. Although some may think Pikmon’s time here in P+ may be waning after an explosive entrance into the world of Aether with an already masterful Forsburn, fear not fans of foolishness, Pikmon will be in the shadows charging up an OHKO Quickdraw for an unsuspecting foe.

Set of the Season: Grand Finals vs Shiny Zubat at Undertow 2024

Landing at his career’s highest rank and becoming the third G&W main to reach the Top 10 summit of PMRank is Michigan's sweetheart, Ellipsis. Ellipsis showed everyone that a “gutted” character can still put up big results in 2024 and even go as far as winning one of the most stacked events of the year. Ellipsis stunned everyone with a new and improved gameplan as well as an unexpected unveiling of a secondary in his run to victory in Ohio that certified him as a lethal contender worthy of his ranking of #7. At Undertow, Ellipsis showed a never before seen Ivysaur in a 3-2 win against SoulOfficer to begin his powerful run through Winners. From there, he returned to his iconic 2-D Demon, grabbing his mighty hammer to judge his competition, finding them unworthy, and casting them down to the depths of the Losers bracket below with the resounding pings and beeps of his 9 hammers. He defeated the likes of Krumpberry, Morsecode, Michael and ORLY to make it to the Winners side of Grand Finals. There, he almost met his match against one of the front runners for #1 this year, Shiny Zubat, dropping the first set of Grands. However, Ellipsis stood resolute and put a crucial blow in Zubat’s résumé by closing out the second set for himself, securing victory with G&W against the Yoshi, one of G&W’s more challenging matchups. Ellipsis has been a G&W namesake for years now, pushing against the waves of cries about him being nerfed beyond playability and, instead, showing with enough grit, determination, aaaaaand a little help from a leafy friend, the character can still be played at the top level and even pushed further than ever before. 2024 was a massive year for Ellipsis and G&W enjoyers alike, and it looks like he’s booted up and primed to push even higher in 2025.
