I liked it. I liked how Ness broke through Meta Knight's Mach Tornado. Far too many complain about how unbeatable that move is (although, I have been known to complain about Wolf's Blaster).

Was it just the character appearances that were changed (I like the way Bowser looked) in the matches or were there changes to the gameplay as well?

Just the appearences. I try not to change gameplay excluding character and stage textures and music and stuff.
