Seriously. No-one on this board pivotgrabs enough. I don't either. When your opponent approaches you,
-Don't shield his fair or dash attack,
-Don't spotdodge his grab,
-And Don't spam fsmash or standing grabs.

Pivotgrab!!! It's COMPLETELY safe. It has lucario's fsmash in distance. No other attack outranges that! Just throw pikmin, and pivotgrab your opponent's approaches. easy.

I recommend playing about 10 matches without the shield button assigned to anything. Hopefully that will prove my point.

Discuss.

You can't make me. I try, but I always begin my dash to early or some other stupid mistake that puts me out of range.

Pivot grab is the thing I've really been trying to incorporate more. Well, that and using ^B offensively (and defensively). I spend so much of my matches running away now.
1. Run away.
2. Jump and throw Pikmin until they approach.
3. Run away and pivot grab.
4. Follow grab with combo.
5. ???
6. Profit!

wtf, i've been using this for months. it isn't apparent in the 2 videos i have posted of myself, but my playing has evolved big time since those vids anyways. Yeah, I love grab releasing an opponent, and then running to the other side of them and pivot grabbing them.

seriously, i use this alllll the time, it is so valuable, as usual dan is right.

It is. All the Olimars I've played in socal are thoroughly versed in spamming pivot grabs.

Well, 2 of them didn't until I showed em. ;D

I pivot grab some, but it's somewhat easier to punish than a shield grab, or even a dashing shield grab.
I try to use it for mind games, but that's about it.
I'll try incorporating it more, see how it works. ;)

I played him a few times a couple nights ago, id imagine he is a beast, although I was really more concerned with getting used to wifi lag because it was only my second time ever playing wifi ^_^

the reason I say id imagine he is a beast is because I never judge anybody's skill based on watching them play wifi, but he was executing a lot of the standard "advanced" olimar techniques, I got pivot grabbed more than once.

i hear about reverse boost grab or whatever, how is this different from a pivot grab and how do you execute it? is it better than a pivot grab in terms of range and sliding distance?

I know to do it^, bit I don't bother using it. You dash attack using down on the c-stick and then cancel it with pivotgrab. It's pretty easy to do. I'm not sure how much more effective it is though.

It extends your pivot grab range with about 20%, I think. The slide distance is slightly bigger as well. Only downside is that it takes a long time for the pikmin to walk back so your opponent breaks out easily at low percentages :/

My only problem with pivot grabbing is that I have trouble using it effectively against characters that like to pressure you with multi-hit d-airs, like Wario and Fox, because when I run away and pivot-grab they're usually still in the air. Actually, this applies to most characters that stay mostly in the air. It seems like shield grab works better on them. I could be doing something wrong, though.

*lightbulb*

Anyone use RARed spikes? Yah know, you ever use dair on an offstage opponent and it just hits them out instead of down? RARed dair= stage spike if that ever happens maybe? eh, eh?

I haven't played a single Olimar who pivot grabs.

I want to see how broken it really is. Until then I will have my doubts. :)

It seems like that always knocks them up a little, too, so I'm not sure you could get them to hit the stage. You're probably joking anyway...

I almost always use Negromar (I think Negromar rolls off the tongue better than Negrolimar) regardless of my opponent's character. He's just more of a badass.

I always lose Oli dittos even if im better than my opponent, I lose all dittos I play with other charachters also!
I tend to lose a lot of dittos as well, even if I'm better with that character than the person I'm playing. I think it's because I don't have as much experience playing against the character.

yeah, well me and him are both very experienced, we are probably at the same skill as each other though so we have very fun and interesting matches when im not being pivot grabbed constantly, i swear those things are ridiculous when he uses them alot though
