I'm trying to learn how to properly pillar, and I know the theory behind it, but I can't seem to l-cancel the jump properly. I tried practicing with Link's down B so that I could get the general idea down, and I have no problem with that. However, once I try using Falco, I can't seem to get it correctly. I can get pillar once maybe 10% of the time properly, but that seems to be speculation. Do you press R as you're hitting the ground, just before, or what?

Note that when you L-cancel, you're cancelling the lag when you land, so press L the moment before you've touched the ground.

You should try practicing the actual motion first. try shffling Dairs in place to shines and Utilts. Also, wavedashing out of the shine to shffl Dair, repeat.

At higher percents (vs fastfallers) or lighter characters (generally at lower percents) you can fulljump (Falco has the highest jump in the game) out of the shine and follow up with Dair. To continue the combo, you should fastfall after the Dair hits and try Jab (if they're too far in front of you) Uair, or shine. Follow-ups should be simple from there.

I didn't really check what I wrote, but whatever. Just ask. There are other threads on this btw. look for em

I hope you understand the difference between pillaring and shine dair combos.

Anyways, make sure you press L (or R) right before landing. This timing will change with each move. It's good that you practiced Link's dair; it's the most obvious one to spot. However, Falco's dair will have different timing. Also note that if you hit someone or their shield, the timing will change, due to not hitting the ground at the same time. Practice, build consistency, and you'll get there.

pillaring refers to the shield pressure shine dairs, shine dair combos are when u connect with shine then jump and dair. but there is different timing for lcancel on everything so get a feel for it. get a feel for sometimes lcancel isnt necessary too, like shine instadouble jump rising dair fastfall needs no lcancel

Okay. I know the difference, but I think I've got the technique down now. It only took an hour of so or practice. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, like vro said.. I hope you know the difference. But, honestly... don't worry about pillaring for now, get down the early technical **** first.

-Get used to L canceling
-SHL,rSHL [make sure your shooting your lasers a good height, not too high]
-wavedash/waveshine, waveshining is a must have to help with shine combo's.

also, the AMAZINGNESS OF THE FSMASH use it, don't spam it... but use it :] har har, all jokes aside.

but, your from boston.. cool, come to Mass maddness 10, tourney on july 12th.

Perfect pillar on a shield takes longer than an hour. I think he's just practicing dair shines on the ground.

ThreeX, I'm originally from Portsmouth RI, so I know the Fall River area well. I think I might go and check out the tourney on the 12th.
