Phantasy Star, Loved yet Forgotten

Well I began this thread as a memorial (in a way) to the Phantasy Star series.

I loved this series, each game from I to IV only added to the amazing storyline.

Phantasy Star Universe and Online should not count as an actual part, considering that their storylines are not intertwined with the originals for the Sega Master System and the Sega Genesis.

Phantasy Star I began with Alis Landale, a young 15-year old girl who witnessed the death of her own brother, who told her that the government was corrupt and evil was about. Along with Alis, three others joined her in the fight against evil on the planet of Parma; a magician named Lutz, a cat-like creature named Myau, and a fighter named Odin. Together they defeated Dark Falz and brought peace to Parma, yet...

Phantasy Star II begins with the character named Rolf, a young man who lost his parents when he was 10. Something has gone wrong with the bio-systems on the planet Motavia, and monsters have been spawning. Along with Nei, a human-esque creature, Rudo, Amy, Shir, Josh, Anna, and Hugh, (many characters, I know) they together defeat Dark Force (the Dark Falz from Phantasy Star 1) and then Mother Brain, the centre control system for the entire planet, whom had malfunctioned. Phantasy Star II came roughly 1000 years after Phantasy Star I.

Phantasy Star III was noted as the 'strange' game of the series, seeming to have hardly any relevance to the two previous games. Yet, this game has an intriguing storyline unto itself! The game begins with Rhys, a prince of a kingdom called Landen. The other playable characters appearing in this game are Lyle, Mieu, Wren, and Lena. Wren and Mieu are both androids from an ancient-yet-advanced civilization (Phantasy Star I and possibly II's civilization). They again defeat Dark Force, whom threatens the existence of life in the solar system of Algo.
And last but never least...

Phantasy Star IV, probably my favourite out of the incredible series. The main protagonist here is Chaz, a young boy who follows in the footsteps of his best friend and mentor, Alys Brangwin. Throughout this exhilarating storyline, placed about 2000 years from Phantasy Star I, Chaz and the player both learn about the full story of the Algo Solar System, which has been constantly threatened by a being of immense hatred, the Profound Darkness. Part of this storyline becomes extremely depressing, yet other parts are moments of shock and awe.

I tried my best not to give away storylines. If you have never heard of these games in your life, look them up at least!

Once again... I love this series, and I shall never forget the great memories I have had with these games.

Now back to playing them!

I am only trying to remember the Phantasy Stars that took place in the original Algo Solar System.
The others (Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Universe, Phantasy Star Zero) do not add to the storyline at all. Besides, they are the new ones, sequels are never really that good... With exceptions.

Has anybody else on SWF apart from Onishiba and I played or heard about the Phantasy Stars for the Sega Genesis?

This site is dedicated to a Nintendo fighting series thus it attracts Nintendo fans. Phantasy Star is a cult classic Sega franchise that, like other non-Sonic series, never really got off the ground.

Basically, we're probably the only two here who even HEARD of the series.

Other than the Universe/Online games, I only played the second one just because it was on the Sega Smash Pack. Even then when I tried to play it, I couldn't figure out how to play it... but I suppose that happens when you're really young and not trying to follow an RPG, but moreso just see stuff happen, right?

I don't even know about the other three games, but I knew there had to be a #1 because there was a II. I don't think I'll ever play them, not because I got off on a bad start with the series, but I'm not really feeling nostalgic and hunting down old games just to see them.
