If you've seen the Piranha battle on dojo, you heard that he has two cages, one with each of the princesses...

If you play adventure as Zelda or Peach what the hell is he going to do?

It's possible that you are forced to play as Kirby at that point in the adventure mode. In fact, I now think that you do not have a choice in picking your character after reading Sakurai's description in today's update.

that may be so, and does seem most likley, but if you could pick characters, I would expect that it would be a cinematic scene, and whichever princess you choose is the one that is saved. however, it does seem more likley that you'll be forced to systematically play as every character atleast once (depending on choices, of course)

Alas, the way I previously thought would've worked. Supspace Emissary would've had one concrete storyline, and you see different parts of that storyline depending on who you play as.

But now I believe the game will have a linear way of doing things, and you will be forced to be certain characters. You will be able to make different choices throughout the game, which could potentially alter the storyline.
Now, I actually like this more.

i suppose this means you cant play as a secret character in adventure mode?
or maybe you need to unlock a character to advance into the story?

One of the things that always made smash single player boring was that the same thing happened everytime. I hope this has different stories for each character.

What really caught my attention was todays update red/pink background, i mean, they have blue for the main characters, but now they put a new one... and im guessing there will be a lot as well, and is for bosses

i liked the idea, but now that i think of it, this sligthens (i dont know if thats spelled correctly XD) the chances of some characters to be playable, k. rool, dedede, even ganondorf, since he was a clone and they dont wanna bring clones back

but then again, bowser IS playable, so... what will he do in Sub, i mean, being a bad guy... so i guess u dont get to choose characters? but well, maybe the ones i mentioned above still have some chances, but i guess ridley actually fits very good into this boss category

I think this mode has a set plot/script that has you playing as different characters as you progress through the story. I would really like it if that were the case. It would force you to be competent with ALL of the characters to beat it on the highest difficulty. That would be really rewarding imo.

My guess:

First level: Mario

Second: Kirby

Third: Whatever princess you saved.

I wonder where Mario ended up.. heheh

Glad he got pwned. Mario is too over-hyped for his own good.
anyways, as far as princesses go... different colors anyone?
If I were Mario and Kirby, I'd be pissed to see Peach and Zelda come to my aid. I'd be asking for people like Ike, Bowser, and DK.

I believe it'll be your character you've chosen and 3 several others, possibly more, JUST for the intro. I believe it'll be random, yet still the same scenario. i was thinking about this today.

See, one gets kicked out.

[IF YOUVE BEEN UP TO DATE AND FOLLOWED ADVENTURE MODE UPDATES YOU'LL UNDERSTAND]

Mario/Kirby: They Fight, Mario ones, and breaks the rules by not entirely Defeating kirby. (he shakes his hand) Therefore, he broke the rules of "This World..." The Primids come with their master. Mario and Kirby seem to have back up by Zelda and Peach. Mario's shot out the stadium by a canon from the primids and fellow foes. This Leaves Kirby to fight Petey.

Kirby Continues.

Zelda/Peach: Both entrapped in a cage by Petey. Petey attacks with them as weapons. I'm assuming with some sort of stamina kind of like the Master Hand. Anyway, as seen in the update, Zelda is released.

Zelda/Kirby are the final two. We have to see more to see what else happens.

But what i've concluded is that so far, two start, one leaves, two join, one leaves. Then combined, will one of them leave?

It's confusing I suppose but I INSTANTLY understood.

I was going to make this thread, but you beat me to it.

But yeh, I'm just as confused. Maybe you HAVE to play as Kirby or Mario, but that would be majorly stupid...perhaps if you play as Peach, Mario(and/or Luigi) and Kirby are in the cages.

Am I the only one who wouldnt like it if you couldnt even choose a character to play predominantly as from the beginning? It would be very hard to tie in secret characters to the plot if you cant pick your character from the start. And would playing Adventure Mode as a major villain even be possible then?

Didn't think of alterative storylines when you pick your character. Anyways, I think Petey Piranha will get away somehow and you can't catch up to him because time is running out. You get out the stadium and I think depending on which you save, they'll tell you to find their love and that other character you don't find catches up later in the story. That's just my speculation.

It's probably something like you fight Kirby as Mario and then the SA comes and you do the Petey thing and that's two branches and there could be some other branches down the line. They could easily fit playing as villains and/or secret characters along these paths, too...Especially with special conditions and stuff.

Also, I love that it's implied that you don't get to choose your character for the most part. Good times.

I Like how the story mode will have to be played to see all of the different "branches" to it. I'm willing to bet that, depending on which "route" you take, you will unlock certain characters. The Peach/Zelda is just the first branch of many (at least, thats what I assume)./

Maybe you will be able to pick a group of characters. Like 1 Being Mario, Kirby, Peach, and Zelda. And another being Yoshi, Link, ?, ?. Etc.

That's just unnecessarily complicated. I think people are going a bit crazy with their theories. The most likely explanation would be that the characters you use in this mode are dictated by the story. I think you will use many if not all of the characters eventually, with each one playing through a certain part of the adventure. This would force people to be good with ALL characters to beat this mode on the highest difficulty (as I said further up in this thread)

The thing that makes me think the Subspace Emissary will not feature character selection is the detailed cutscenes. Some people have suggested that the player choose four characters before starting the game: I hate to go into math, but there are thousands of permutations, that could arise from setting up adventure mode this way. The programmers would have to account for each characters role in the cutscene, which, if you think about it, doesn't seem feasible.

The best bet would be a set story with possible brandhing paths. Ex. Kirby -> Zelda or Peach -> Mario -> Link or Yoshi...whatever. Each character could still have his or her own story. Character selection is not necessary, especially in a cutscene-driven storyline.

I'm also hoping it takes longer to play, maybe even requiring checkpoints and saves.

It's possible to have dynamic cutscenes as far as who appears in them. But yeah, they're have to program the pertinent poses for every character for every cutscene, so that's not really likely.

It seems like to me in this new adventure mode they give a a story line and a Condition with already chosen characters. So your not really picking your character to play. Example Mario Ends up into the jungle and Liquid snake captured Dk and Diddy and its up to mario to defeat him (just throwing ideas out there. Kirby will have to free one of the princesses before the timer on the bomb runs out

I think you will have some characters to choose, like I dont know, mario, kirby, fox, etc, and all characters have different story lines, some share cinematics because they are together (mario, kirby)(yoshi, link) and others get some for themselves (fox being attacked by the halberd and crashed in the jungle and meets donkey kong and diddy) and you unlock character stories while you progress (zelda story is unlocked if you save her, or peach), etc

that my guess

i think the whole big picture will be the same, but depending on a character you choose at the beginning it'll be a diffrent chain of events all leading to the same or similar thing.

yea i think this is a very cool idea, i definitely think you will be forced to use kirby at the beginning
Given that Sakurai created kirby, I think he would like it for Kirby to get the honor of being the first to be controlled in the SSE anyways.

Also, perhaps the one you save is the one that you unlock later on.

Bowser has been getting conned into good guy roles lately, hasn't he?

(See Paper Mario 3 for example)

He teams up with Mario to protect the kingdom whenever the land he controls is at stake.
