Maybe, you start off with a written character (Kirby), then whichever one you chose to save, you unlock them.

All characters confirmed on Dojo will be not need to be unlocked, I've heard he won't reveal secret characters.

I think that it may be divided like event mode is, but more linear. Like a chapter division, that's why its SSE and not "Adventure mode".

Before he gets blown away.. fight some of the Primid.

Bowser has been getting conned into good guy roles lately, hasn't he?

He teams up with Mario to protect the kingdom whenever the land he controls is at stake.

Bowser (and subsequent villains) might not have to be on the bad Subspace side. They could have their own motives/storyline.

Of course, that is only if the 'Every character has their own storyline and they intertwine with the others' path.

Eg.
Choice between Mario, Fox, Kirby.

Choose either Mario or Kirby, you fighting in the stadium.
Choose Fox, you up in space fighting your own Primids.

1: Mario gets sent up to Fox's area.
2: Kirby's alone, Fox now has a partner.
3: Kiiby saves either princess, becomes their partner.

Gather charaters as you go? You could have more choices like the Z/P one later in the story.
