Actually, I'm pretty sure Street Fighter II World Warrior started the competitive scene as we know it back in 1991, but I guess if were just talking about smash then yeah 64 started it all.
Like P said, Melee is what made Smash what it is today, not 64. SF is a different story.

And I guess I can wait on 64 registration. I'm very much in favor of having it be 5 bucks, but if ismokeherbz is the only person that is going to speak up between now and April then I may reduce it to 3 bucks. But if you come just for 64, you will still have to pay the one-time 5 dollar venue fee.
Make it $3. I'd prefer $5, but I know people won't enter because $2 somehow makes a world of difference.

Maybe because melee came out 2 years after 64?

Yes, it does. 40% isn't a big difference? What math did you learn?

No one was asking WHY that was so, it just is. Debating it makes you seem bitter.

No, both of you are just being insensitive asshats. The majority of people don't give a **** about SSB, at least not enough to pay $5. It's psychological: $5 is a full bill, $2 or $3 can be written off as "it's just a couple of bucks." There's a big psychological difference between $4 and $5 whether you want to admit it or not, just like $9 compared to $10 or $19 compared to $20

And the lower it is the more it matters. The same price as a melee tournament?

I personally don't care because my mind is already made up: I won't be entering if it's $5, but maybe if it's $2 or $3. I don't really care if you price me out because I'm not that interested in the first place... which is kind of my point, really. I bet there are more people thinking like me than thinking like you. But you're welcome to make it $5 and hope you guys have fun and good luck getting people.
