So we all loved the adventure mode in melee, but complained that it lacked substance and needed more umph. Sakurai heard our concerns and has now added this amazing backstory and world for the brawl universe and made it into the:

But is anyone worried that this incredible attention to the beefed up 1p modes, will detract from the real reason the world fell in love with smash in the 1st place- the awesome vs. battles?? Maybe i'm just paranoid, post what u think. GO!

I doubt it. The difference in the 1P mode and multiplayer is nearly nothing.

It's very likely that many of the stages will have places in SSE. Really, in Smash Brothers, little attention even has to be payed to multiplayer specific aspects since most of the aspects apply to single player as well.

So, in my opinion, the more they do for single player the better.

i dont think that sakurai would take away from the versus and focus on the single player mode because he knows that the only real reason most people are buying this game is for the versus mode.

The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection compatibility says you're worrying too much. Smash is a multiplayer/party game primarily, and that will not die. No matter how much they improve the single-player experience, the game will remain focused on the battles that ensue between human players.

Heck, the Subspace Emissary even starts out with a fight between the two players, if you're playing as a team.

I think you're worrying about it too much. I'm sure you've read the impressions of Brawl from Gimpyfish by now haven't you? Just check all over the net dude, everyone is saying that the game is incredible. We're gunna have to get used to the changes that have been made but the game is nothing short of spectacular. Relax man, relax.

The only thing Sakurai did was improve the 1p adventure mode.

What if a gamer doesn't have someone to play with? VS battles against the computer get boring after a while. That way, if you don't have a way to play against friends, you could spend some quality time beating the SSE.

Nothing's wrong with Smash's multiplayer though... but something was wrong with Smash's single player. Don't break what don't need fixing, but add more and more and more features... That's my new motto for the hour.

Nah highly unlikely seeing as how this is a multi player game to begin with. They know their priorities, and that could be one of the reasons for delay. Tweak the 1 player mode a bit.

you can't even use c-stick in 1 player modes (co-op story mode included) =[

so no

But I'm all for a great story mode. Anything to make unlocking characters be more fun. Better than leaving your cube on over night to unlock a certain character. >=[ they seriously ran out of ideas for that one

Lol yea. I did the 700 matches instead. Put it on lightning melee, 1 life, 2 players, jungle japes, and just suicide. Went by in 15-20 minutes but still annoying...

haha Mewtwo, I remember that. He was unlocked after 1 day.

I unlocked Luigi, Jigglypuff, Marth, and Mewtwo within a day. All but Game and Watch after first week.

I agree with this opinion.

What's not to like about the single player mode? Even IF by some ungodly reason it detracted from the multiplayer aspect, it's still an epic storyline that involves crosses between videogame greats.

Granted, Smash Brothers would suck without a multiplayer, but it still goes to say that what they're doing for single player this time around is only gonna help the game.

no just no . A beefed up singler player is just what melee needed now were gettin it in brawl and u can bet that vs mofde is still top priority. Just cuz brawl is gonna have more modes than melee doesnt mean the multiplayer experience will be any less satisfiyin it only means that were gonna get more of a COMPLETE game that is super AMAZING and beyond EPIC!

If you dont have a connection you'll be missing out on about 80% of all brawls fun
No, you'll be missing on about 2% of brawl's fun. I have fun smashing with friends/family or going to tournaments where I'm physically in the same room as my opponent. Playing with random people online + dealing with lag only sounds like something I would want to do occasionally instead of regularly.

As for the original post. Keep in mind, a dev team would have had different people building single player levels and setting up multiplayer. The single player team would have been able to work freely without worrying much about the bug and balance fixes going on in the multiplayer end. The only way one would detract from the other is if the game was being built on a tight budget, which we know it wasn't.

I am glad that they are beefing 1P mode to spice up the variety in the game, but in the end multi-player is going to be what adds to the re-playability the most.

If you don't have WiFi, but want to play against other people, then it'll be in your best interest to get a Linksys Wireless router or connect your Wii to a Modem that supports a USB cable (I haven't tried the latter, but I assume that's what the "Wired" option in the Internet settings is for).

Well also youd get the random stage every day

a player whenever you want one even if everyone has things to do

also applies to homerun contest.... wich would be about the 2% fun

Pics and stages from friends

all this would total at least 50%

The versus mode has infinite replay value...while the sub space dont...
smash is well known for its vs mode.. so why throw it to the trash can?

Guys, essentially two games, Super Smash Brothers: The Subspace Emissary, and Super Smash Brothers: Brawl, are both scheduled for release on February 10, 2008. They just happen to be on the same disc.

I think that there will be versus in 1p mode. Cause you get other characters to your party right? So, my thoughts are that in order to add some people to your party, you will have to face them in a versus battle on a set stage, beat them, and then they will be in your party. (Although I've seen some videos of 1p mode where characters are added to your party automatically, like when fox saved diddy from that dragon guy, or when pit found mario in the clouds and revived him). Anyway, I'm sure the game will be awesome no matter what Sakurai does with it. Oh, and if anyone lives in the States, or Canada and wants to swap wii codes, just send me a message, sonic130.

No way! The only way SE could be overdone is if they decided to get rid of mutiplayer mode and smash was just SE.
That would kinda suck. It would just be more of an adventure type game than a fighting game, even though you would still fight enemies along the way. It's good to see a beefed up single player mode, but multi-player is where Super Smash is at its strongest.

I'm not worried at all about Smash's multiplayer. But I still would have preferred if rather than making the SSE they released the game 6 months earlier or added a bunch more characters or whatever else. I'm still not really sure it was worth their time. We would definitely be playing Brawl right now if not for the SSE, and I don't see that as a feature that will get much play from me once I finish it.

Uhmm, a good one player mode won't make the Vs. mode sucky or anything... IT can only be good for the Smash series IMO.

This is pretty much the post of the thread so far. Though others come really close. Short and easily understandable, two for the price of one.

I wouldn't be to worried about the single player stealing dev time from multi and leading to a worse multiplayer. I'm guessing they really aren't spending that long on SSE anyways, and im guessing it'll only take an hour or so to beat. I could be wrong though, maybe two hours :p In any case, it's not the focus of the game for obvious reasons.

Anyone who thinks that SSE is overdone, has never played it's prequel, Kirby's Super Star multiplayer. :)

(Yes, I am insinuating that SSE is basically Kirby Super Star 2. :p )
