overall opinions on marth tequniques?

Hit them with your sword.
Hit them with your sword as it turns red. You can then make it change colors and it does things that are 1337.

As for my opinions...
he's easy to pick-up. Read the sticky that tells you everything. Then practice it in a match. It's not difficult. He's not a tech-heavy character.
Tilts are when you hold your control stick slightly in one direction and press A. For example, when you're crouching and press A, Marth does a Dtilt. Since Dtilt is awesome, it's also easy to do.
DI how you move when you're in an attack. If I hit you with Marth's forward smash, it normally sends you to the sides of the stage, but if you DI up before/at the time you were hit by the move, you'll move in a higher trajectory.
Use the search button to know more about DI.
Also, yes, hit your opponent with the sword and you might win. =)

Use Marth's speed and long reach with his sword to your advantage. Attack quickly and with precision.
Avoid situations where you're caught up close to another character, especially heavy hitters. Marth's sword does the most damage when it hits with the tip, so really close combat will make his attacks less effective. If you do get caught off guard, then your best chance is a counter, a grab, or Marth's up-special attack.
