This thread is gonna contain our opinions about the new SBR rules. This means everything about what they haad to say. Although I believe that most people will agree with their rules, I do not beleive that most people will agree with their stage selections. This thread is for our opinions and will be updated monthly to what the pika community believes should be the recommend stage selections. Maybe we can convince the SBR to ban a stage. Maybe we can't. But we should still deliberate.

my disagreements are as followed:

green hill zone/onett/pichtochat= banned

Pirate ship= debatable

ghz and onett are terrible levels for counterpicks. ghz allows for easy kills with characters who can grab easily, have cg's, and have far throws. not to mention the breaking of the middle of the stage which forces players to get nearer to the edges. this lever would come down to who can grab who and who has the better grabs. this level i would have thought should have been an easy ban. onett is basciall the same thing. one can get near the edge and throw to the death. lets say im losing the match and the timer is gonna end soon. i would have to be on the offensive as to get ahead of my opponent by killing him or get more damage. all they would have to do is stay near the edge and wait for us. this is great for characters who can camp well and have excellent grab ability. not to mention all the easy infinites that can be done here. this should also be banned.

pictochat allows for the level to play a factor in who wins and who dies. somethings that have happened to me before is that i would be fighting, and since the screen focuses on us, i wouldn't see that the level made spikes in the air over the edges and i would jump back or QA out of the way and into a spike. same things goes for the bombs. this is free damage that the opponent got because he stood there and did nothing. not to mention the spike that come out of the ground. this inhibits most characters who rely on their air game severely. next to mention is the cart. sure it kills at higher percentages...but why should that matter? it still kills and because you character can be thrown up into it or you land wrong and it hits you the game to turn(momentum wise). i also agree that this stage should be banned.

pirate ship is debatable to me. i can see why its a counterpick. but i also see why it could be banned. simply the water, the canons, and the stick that pops out and shoot you out. i could go into detail of why it could be banned but i think i will let someone else handle that for now.

it amazes me what the SBR has done here. i know they are very intelligent people and all, but seriously. what is happening. what happened to all the login thinkers. how can onett and green greens be debated while green hill zone gets a counter? it seems to me that there may have been a bias in some of these stages.

I think that the SBR I'm sure went through a lot of debates about these issues, and I'm sure they found something that balanced out the imba aspectes of the levels in question. personally ia gree, but it would be good if we could have an insight into why they made these decisions, ya know? But I can see how green hill zone adds an aspect of falling levels, and a part of the level that hurts players if they don't take advantage of it (the little checkpoint thing) and combat on the stage causes it to fall, much like shadow moses or levels like that, and while it is small on the sides, the ceiling is pretty high, so it balances out there a little, and while the edges are small, it just encourages players to be mindful of this and get around it. pirate ship I like personally, since it allows many different types of combat, water, air, and ground (both on the rock and the ship itself) the cannons also add another aspect to watch out for, which while similar to pictochat and halberd, it is also different in the specifics of how it works. it seems that maybe it would be banned for the spikes? I'm not sure either what went through their minds on that one.

Pictochat: i like this stage due to its unpredicability. yes it has set rotation patterns that it cycles through but the order seems random, and it increases your awareness by watching out for, and when appropriate, dealign with certain obstacles like wind factor, or spikes, and it is one of the only levels with springs, which adds another aspect to play too. while I see your point about how the stage itself can cause strife and damage to the player while the opponent does nothing, i think that this is just an aspect to smash bros that has been in all the games, from bumpers on the mario stage in ssb64, or the pokemon levels in all of them, to the rotating platform from the 2nd samus level in ssbm, it just is a trend that causes people to react and adapt to the surroundings. at least there are limited places where people can take advantage of the infinite-wall combos, or things like that, whereas levels like onett have the walls there forever, thus enabling a really pissed off opponent. I think it should be allowed as a cp but thats just me

one other thing: the starter list we had going before this list came out I like better for the picks, and the counterpicks could be adapted but I don't like skyworld, it favors snake and gaw which are popular, as well as ivysaur (almost in-escapable neutral b combo if you trap them against the bottom of the top platform). also if you try to recover right as the platform reforms, it should at least give you your recovery back since it doesnt even spike you like bridge of eldin does...again just my opinion

i've decided i don't like brinstar as pikachu, so maybe we can talk about that sometime on aim or something, just to compare it to the stage discussions we've used before for it

well even though i hate pichtochat as a cp i have been keeping up with the arguements it seems as if pichtochat should be a cp. i still think no but majority speaks. i am no longer going to agrue about pictochat.

but what i will say is that the sbr does give reasons in the thread as to why they say what they said. go to tournament discussion>sbr recommended rules.

Well I've just finished a new section in my guide so I can't work up the energy for a large post, but I don't agree with Green Hill Zone or Onett.

Green Hill Zone has such small side boundaries, and the fact that the midle can get destroyed forces you close the the sides and makes in similar to Bridge of Eldin in some ways. Except Smaller. and the funny check point is annoying because if you don't activate it you get punished for no reason.
Onett, you get infinites here. Not good. Also, camping near the boundaries with good characters can net them easy kils.

after seeing a good, fair match on GHZ, I think that should be allowed, and skyworld is iffy- since gaw's d-throw is basically an insta kill if there is no platform on the bottom, and ivysaur can trap someone against the roof w/o breaking it, doing a crap load of damage that way...onett is still a no
