I have only recently been playing melee useing advanced tects. i intend to become the greatest SSB player in the world. I dedicate all of my time to studying this game.

When brawl does go online, how many players do you think will play it?
I would like a ranking ladder system so that i can see my rank improveing as i play.
Will there be clan wars? and how competive will this game really be?

I believe there are quite a few topics about clans and rakings, but anyway, if brawl does have teh online battles, the smash comminity will get very competitive. kinda like the pkmn, diamond and pearl community. even if there were no rankings, an online smash comminity will thrive anyway.

A ranking system would make online alot harder, it would bring up things like having to stop people leaving during games when they are losing to avoid losing their ranks and cheating etc...

It's not confirmed that Brawl will be online. If it is online, there will probably be rankings. It probably won't be online though, the game requires too much frame perfect precision. I can only hope.

Play the game to enjoy yourself, don't spend your life wishing you had that one extra rank! Ranking would be a good idea though, gives you an idea of the skill level of the other player. But in all fairness, if there was no ranking system the wii-online ssbb community would be much friendlier!

Not really, a lot of online ranking systems (Like Strikers) just show who can play the most. Sure you can climb quickers if you have a better win-lose ratio but in the end someone who is 10-1000 can still be on top if it's based somewhat on points.

I would like an actual server selection thing this time. PBR and MSCF always had a random thingy. if there were to be clans, it would be wise to have server selection things.

anyway, I'd play it, but I wouldn't join a clan. I could always set up my services as a merc. I did that in dungeon siege and it went pretty well, I think, although, there wouldn't be anything to gain. ahwell, I guess I would just play and have fun.

for brawl, I would guess the ranking system would work as points from each match you play. +1 for wins, -1 for loses and self destructs, maybe +2 for each match won.

Awesome post, Xaron. Anyways, to the topic creator, there's not going to be any ranking system. Sakurai said so himself. He wants to keep it as secret as possible, so we have to use Wii-code. There will be a track of your wins and loses, but that's about it. Oh, and I'm looking forward to clan wars, too.

Your optimism is great, but don't expect to become the best unless you have complete dedication.

More than likely, you won't be playing advanced or semi-decent players online. Reason being is because advanced smash is frame dependant, which means that any lag can really ruin the flow of the game( Lag is an inevitablity ). Mainstream play will still be conducted in local tournaments because of this.

Online will not cator to the competative player, don't get your hopes up.

Besides, at an actual tournament you'll be having more fun, and you'll still be climbing a 'ladder'. Just keep playing and don't stop.

I'm terribly sorry bro, but sadly you will have no chance against my online team. That goes for the rest of you mortals on Gamefaqs, SmashBoards, gamespot, or wherever! I'm giving you all fore warning. If Brawl is online and you can battle against people from across the globe, keep your eyes on "The Brotherhood of Shadow," for we'll blow you all away, and eventually you'll succumb to the darkness! Just so that you know. Of course, if you want me to recruit you on the best squad ever, I'm always a Pm away.

But anyways, of course this game is going to be competitive. Beyond competitive even! Seriously, there are an endless number of SSB players out there and the number is equivalent to the number of grains of sand there are in the Sahara Desert. And the numbers just keep growing....

So of course it's going to be competitive! And it better be online too seeing how SSBB is so high on demand!

Yes online will be great, ranking system maybe. Hurting your self esteem? No. The smash community is like the navy seals or marines of smash! We are the elite...cuz we can WD. But there'll be less drilling and more hanging out drinkin soda and ordering pizza. I don't see how this could hurt your self esteem when 75/100 matches you'll be playing are against casual players who'll think *OMG HAX D:* "CHEETAAAR", or "ZOMG, thats that wavedasht hing I hear about on the interwebz!!!11!!!twentythree You must be a pro!"
