Hey everyone.

My friends and I are looking to host an Omaha area melee tournament this June.

I know that it's a long way away, but I'd like to get some input from other players before we go ahead and finalize everything.

If any of you could give me some feedback on the following information, I'd appreciate it.

Name: The Melee Revamp - Omaha Area Smash Tournament

Location: Local church or school *

Entry Fee: $10

Events: Doubles and Singles

Rules: SBR

Purse: 1st Place: ~ $50 - $80 (for both singles and doubles) **

2nd Place: ~ $30 - $50 (for both singles and doubles) **

* We are currently debating between three locations, and we're waiting on confirmatory dates.

** The cash prizes will be dependent on attendance.

So, that's all the information I have as of now.

Let me know what you think of the set-up so far and if you would attend.

Thanks.

Captain, are being serious or sarcastic? I'm sorry; I can't tell.

As a side note, JBM, you were on the team Over 9000 in Lincoln a few years back, right? I remember playing (and losing to) you in doubles. I played as Jiggs back then, but couldn't stick around for singles.

Anyways, I'd still appreciate any feedback on my previous post.

I was being serious man. I was looking at the rules again and is the payout the pot consisting 60% 30% 10% or $50 - $80?

Oh, cool. I'm glad to see that you're excited.

The first place cash prize will likely be $50-$80, but it depends on how many people show up.

Also, I'd like to donate a little bit of the money to the location that we hold the tournament at (especially if it turns out to be a church).

However, I can guarantee that the first prize winner of both doubles and singles will earn no less than $50.

Itd be better if the church took a certain xx% venue and then payouts were in xx%. The norm is 60/30/10 split (after venue) but I guess its all up to you. Payouts at our monthlies are always like that and 1st usually gets a decent 100 or so. Just sayin. Also, where in Omaha would these be held? Half of the Nebraska Smashers live in Omaha so yeah. Anyways, + interest.

Off topic to the tournament:
Good games all. Glad to see some faces I havent seen in a whole 2 or 3 weeks. Always puts a smile on my face. Pool games were fun, Brawl is dece I guess and Melee was real. Ranking will be updated when Yulai posts results and videos will not be up no later than Thursday, yes Thursday. If people start bitching before Thursday I wont publisize the videos until February, and I know you guys dont want that SHIIIIIIIT.
plays Fox now.

EDIT: I watched the Fedor vs. Arlovski fight. Fedor is my boy, but he looked like SuperShit in that fight. After all his punches he'd duck for cover like a newb and in the end he got the luckiest punch Ive ever seen. I hope his future performances arent as bad as this one. The real Fedor wasnt fighting tonight.

Thanks for the advice Nyaaa. I think that I might actually do a 25% cut for the church and then the 60/30/10 that has been suggested a couple times now.

I'm curious. How many people typically show up for your monthlies? And if you wouldn't mind, once everything gets finalized, could you spread the word to your attendees? That would be a huge help.

As for whereabouts in Omaha, it'll be held in West Omaha.

The two main locations that we are looking at now are St. Stephen the Martyr and Lutheran Church of the Master.

25% = way too much.

Tysah you gotta remember his opponent was a very talented stand up specialist....ranked the #2 heavyweight in the world on Sherdog.

wow, 25% is way too much for any tourny, since im guessin that if like 20 people show up, then that means all 3 top placeing would get way to little

Thanks for the input guys.

Maybe 25% is a bit excessive. How about 15%?

Also, I just wanted to clarify that I'm expecting 30+ people for the tournament. (If all goes well with the advertising, we could actually get around 50).

Are there any other general suggestions that you all might have?

Edit: Burn and Nyaaa, where are your monthlies held? If it would be cool with you, I'd like to show up some time.

10% venue is pretty much as high as you wanna go but like I said, your tournament, your rules. Some dude hosted a tournament with a 25% venue one time and it died in a good nanosecond.

well im guessin that the outcome of the tourney wasnt that big since 27% of the pot is a lot of money to take away. i think that 10% is the highest that any tourney should take, that is if they take from the pot for venue fees

If its more than 10%, Ill go to the place for friendlies because I dont like the number 15, 20, 25 or 30. Also, 27%? Whoever hosted that must have been some donk for making up such a random number.
