Right, so, since this matchup has already been discussed recently, this thread won't be in the spotlight as long as previous ones.

Go.

I'll edit in my thoughts in a bit.

I really haven't played any top olimars except in teams. And I play Pyronic Star a lot in dubs, and its come down to us two before, and this is what I understand.

-He's pretty bad in the air, in terms of landing, and we have a good anti-air game for the most part.

-If you get a grab, you can do either uthrow or dthrow, both are good, because like everyone knows his roll goes nowhere out of our dthrow, and while he's got the whistle in the air, we can do things like autocancel uair and utilt.

-It's pretty known, that we can't approach by usual means, like dacus, or dash attack etc etc. What I do, is decided to approach with a grenade in hand, after being shield dropped, but this means picking it up with an aerial, or with the other attacks. This mainly has to do with his grab not having grab armor, so if you get grabbed you break, this tactic is really port 4 only though.

There's more, but I'm sure other snakes with more experience will come in here.

If you have reflexs. Walk at olimar. If you see a grab, dodge and ftilt. If you see any other attack, shield and OoS him. Then proceed to edgeguard him.

Stay away from him and camp each other, power shield his pikmins, avoid get u tilted since it can lead to annoying juggles and don't get grabbed especially by blue pikmins. Also don't get U smashed.

I played fino in a mm and at a tourney this weekend so I think I can throw something into this thread.

his side b is ********. What I found to be effective was jumping above them and throwing nades over top to get him to move away to a new spot so you can have time to get closer to him and try to fight him clsoe combat. If oli ever tries to approach grenade grabs and ftilt are the way to go imo. You just gotta think about what option he's gonna go for because of your percent and what he needs and to stay on your toes.

If you play it right, oli should have a difficult time killing the snake. Because if you watch his pikmin you can call his kill move and live forever, whereas one slip up and the oli is dead from a variety of moves at 110+ pretty much.

Dthrow is good, but dont go for a grab too often. Its fairly risky. Try to avoid ftilt 2nd hit if the first doesn't connect either. you'll get punished hard.

55/45 olimar, he gets advantage because snake cant rly prey on his weakness's like other characters and oli has that camping advantage and some dumb grab combos and good options at keeping snake in the air.

I fine the matchup to be pretty easy if u play it right, which is not hard.

when ur at low percentages, camp. Throw grenades, attack when he is jumping about do dodge grenades. Dont approach when olimar is on the ground! U will just eat pikmin in the face or get grabbed(the latter most likely) C4 helps alot.

Here is a good strategy I find works wonders.
If ur in FD for example. Your both on opposite sides, put a c4 on ur side of the stage. throw grenades, when u expect the olimar to jump, mortar slide. kept busting or grenades and up-smashes. He will be force to go back to the side with the c4 to camp u again. The c4 will add pressure to him and make him jump alot, and thats when u can either approach with grabs, titls, or just keep camping and c4 his ***. Rinse, repeat.

Seriously, like every time I come to the snake boards you guys are discussing Olimar somewhere lol.

I have some videos of Infern messing me up at a tournament last saturday. As soon as I get them uploaded I'll post them in here. I'll add my insight on the matchup after that as well :D

Go to the DDD boards, read their matchup on Olimar, copy it. Apply it to Snake, **** harder because we're Snake and not DDD.

<_<

Can't believe I used to think this was near unwinnable hard. >.<

EDIT:
Specifically what CPU had to say.
he Approach:
The number one reason Dedede is believed to lose this matchup is the amount of damage you take and level of difficulty it is to approach olimar. Me and fiction have derived a solid way to approach olimar. First and most importantly, you need to establish the mindset that the pikmin are not real(except purple). Ignore all pikmin that are thrown at you. Don't shield them, don't try to get them off of you, not even the whites. Run right through them and go to olimar. Take note of how many purples he has and where they are in the lineup! This is absolutely essential. You need to powershield the purples like you would falco's laser.
Now that you've gotten to olimar, you can notice that he has 2 or less pikmin because they are all on your body. Stop JUST outside of olimar's grab range. Most olimars will either dash grab or pivot grab at this point. When you get into the range I mentioned, throw out an ftilt. This will stop a dash grab or a standing grab and even an fsmash. If olimar pivot grabs take a few steps forward and start spamming that ftilt. At this point olimar is in a very difficult situation. He can either roll around you or try to jump over you. The best thing to do is expect the roll because it's harder to react to than the jump. If he rolls turn around and grab him and then backthrow him, you are now in a gimping opportunity. If he jumps, he's either going to try to jump all the way over you or he's going to attack your shield. If he attacks your shield with anything but nair, ftilt out of shield and repeat the process I just described. If he jumps clear over you follow him and wait for him to land. Try to grab or begin spacing your ftilt again. Olimar has absolutely NO safe options when you're close to him, and this makes the match very fun.

Dedede's advantage over Olimar's grab:
Olimar's grab is flawed and I completely credit fiction for figuring it out. As of now, the only dedede's that know this are me fiction and teba, and now you. TURN YOUR VOLUME UP WHEN YOU FIGHT OLIMAR!. You know that little sound olimar makes when he grabs? You need instant tech skill reaction time to it, start practicing your reaction to that sound. You either need to spot dodge on reaction or roll around olimar on reaction. If you're closer to olimar you roll if you're farther you spot dodge. If you do it on reaction, dedede's roll is faster than the grab and his spot dodge lasts longer than the grab. This is an amazing flaw in Olimar's gameplay against dedede because it takes out his only close quarters advantage. If you elect to spot dodge, ftilt immediately! If you roll around him, grab him and throw him off, another gimping opportunity.

Where we win the matchup, offstage:
Now is the most important part and I'm sure you're already good at it so i'll just throw out some advice. If oli recovers low your only choice it to try to bair his jump, but what we're actually hoping for is that olimar recovers high, which most do. Jump BELOW olimar and uair! Olimar CANNOT whistle the whole uair and the last hit will send him further offstage allowing you to grab the edge and end the stock. Practice spacing the up air right so you can send him in the correct direction, you obviously don't want to send him back to the stage. Just takes some practice, you'll get it.

Summary:
Ignore the pikmin, let them grab your body so that olimar doesn't have his weapons. Powershield the purple throw. Ftilt ftilt ftilt. The whole matchup is ftilt, it's the best move you have and it outranges every single one of olimar's moves and it kills any pikmin he tries to throw

Wait a minute why aren't we discussing Marth guys? He's like a hard match up, 45:55 Marth? O_o

If you play smart against Olimar, 50:50 it depends on how you play but if your dumb and stupid it's 40:60 and if it's your first time 0:100 and if you have never played brawl -100:200 Play smart to make it even, that's all what I can say I'm too lazy XP
