Yeah forgetting the existence of an opponent is the downfall of most "incredible 2v2 strats". They aren't gonna just watch you do that to their teammate. Not to mention what I've heard so far at least suggests that you can't hold a character as long in SSBB as you could in SSBM. Throwing pikmin however will certainly be useful if the P&O player is able to throw pikmin to disrupt the other fight, as 2v2s are somewhat coinciding 1v1s. Any teammate proficient at preventing edge guarding will compliment Oli though by covering his biggest weakness so far. Once/If we figure out better ways to recover to remove the gimping of tether recovery, more specific teams will arise, but so far thats the important hurdle a teammate should account for.

Yeah, this is all in assumption that the person's teammate will be completely lackadaisical and sitting to the side and taunting or something. Sure this may happen sometimes if the partner is knocked off the edge and making his recovery, but it couldn't happen often with it being effective.

...No it's not.

Watch lucky and Mango fight. These guys wreck with the grab rest combo. Oli's got that, plus range, and less lag.

This topic just made me laugh a little. What if someone were to try to pull this off and threw all his Pikmin onto his partner, they could easily be recalled with the whistle but not after giving some amount of damage. It would be pretty funny to witness.
