Ok, So What Exactly Can I Do With a PS3?

Ok, so I'm finally gonna buy a PS3 really soon, possibly this week. Slim model of course.
Now obviously I know a TON about the system, but I haven't kept up to date with all of the firmware updates and stuff recently, and never had too much hands on time with it.

So obviously there's the games, the web browser, media, download store, etc.

-What exactly is downloadable on the store?
Theres PSOne classics, is there a bunch of them available yet? What's the prices like. FF7 is available right? It's like $10 I think?
There's movie rentals and stuff, is there any free videos?
How about in terms of game demos, 360 has TONS of demos, does PS3 offer the same?
What about made for PS3 (non retail) downloadable games (think wii ware for ps3)?

-What media formats are supported?

-Is the web browser even worth using that much? Is it easy to use, tabbed browsing, etc.

-I like don't know anything about the Remote Play and other PS3-PSP connectivity. Can anyone explain it? I've got a PSP-2000.

-Can I connect the controller via bluetooth to my comp as a game controller?

Anything else I should know? Sorry for all the ques, but I'm kinda hyped for it.

I used my brother's PS3 at one point so I can help.

The Playstation store is adding classics all right. Not only is FF7 available, but Final Fantasy tactics and Metal Gear Solid are available as well(In the US store).

When it comes to media formats, the PS3 supports:

VIDEO
• MPEG-1
• MPEG-2 (PS,TS)
• H.264/MEPG-4 AVC
• MPEG-4 SP
AVI and DIVX need the divx PS3 plugin to play. IIRC, it comes with an update.

MUSIC
• ATRAC (.oma .msa .aa3)
• AAC (.3gp .mp4)
• MP3 (.mp3)
• WAV (.wav)

IMAGES
• JPEG
• GIF
• PNG
• TIFF
• BMP

I'm don't think the slim model comes with an SD slot, but I know it comes with 2 USB slots.

I want to say "don't do it" but I kind of want a PS3 myself for some of it's exclusives.. which are really only 3 that I can think of.. kind of weak but it's good they lowered the price at least.



Uh, useful information I hope: web browser not really worth using from most peoples experience (That's far and few though.. nobody has a PS3). Guess all I can say is just use you're computer unless you're really need the internet.

Honestly going to love the PS3 PSP connectivity. It's one of those things that Nintendo can't get right so far. Plus with all the exclusive content with the PS3 vs 360 games, I'm leaning towards the PS3.

Also the Ps3 doesn't become a doorstop in 3 days. Maybe like 2 months, but what the heck.

Also most people I know on this site have a PS3 as well, so I got some friends to chill out on when I get one.

idk asides from blu-ray, it seems to narrow down to this: what games would you rather play? alot of games are available via xbox/ps3, so you're pretty much down to decide which exclusive fits your tastes better

personally: xbox live fees + xbox controllers with the batteries sold seperately = eww
