Official Tri-State Needs a New Melee Venue Thread

I'd like to move the discussion from the tunes bi-weekly thread into here.

So if you haven't read this in the Tunes' Bi-weekly thread yet, its over. No more Tunes' Bi-weeklies. This means no more melee. We need a new venue in order to keep this game alive.


Montage has offered a melee spot along with the brawl tournies they run. The problem with melee/brawl tournies is running them together takes an extremely long time, and splitting set ups can be difficult.

I'd like to look into other venues for melee only tournies before trying to do a double event. Tec0, I was wondering what the possibilities are of you running a medium scale (25-30 people) tournament in that spot you were trying that one time.

Anyone that believes they have any ideas, please share them here.

DM, I think you guys should do a double event, if you think you could manage it. And you wouldn't need the tunes to be running it, your crew could run it along with the brawl event.

But I would like to find another venue which we could call our own. One that really supported the melee community. I don't want melee to be just a side event at a brawl tournament. I want it to get the focus it deserves, the way it has for months at Cheezits venue.

I would be happy if montage decided to run a melee event. I know I would go, and bring as many supporters as possible. But I would like to find more.

To be FAIR DM, all I heard was yall d!cked out OWM b/c of some rules. Or some silliness to that effect.

Like after a night of rest, I thought about it, and yeah, it would make sense to "test" out the waters on this montage event dealie. Free venue which means more to the pot for every smasher.

I'm willing to put my qualms aside for the rest of the smash community. Cause to be honest, I don't go to these to try to win, (slightly yes. but mostly .. -) i usually go to just see people I haven't seen in a long while.

But this double fisting of tournaments is really difficult to handle seeing how people..

1. if they want to enter all tournaments.. its 40. if you do it that way.. (unless $5 tournies.. b/c then everything goes to the pot and everyone can play every event for $20!)
2. inter-tournament interference... Doubles + Singles for BOTH games if run at the same time, is gonna cause trouble no matter HOW You look at it. (open to suggestions)
3. FRIENDLIES! These are gonna be close to non-existent if you guys do both tournies at the same time. And you know how the smash community LIVES for friendlies.

It's about an hour from Howell but what's another hour right? >.> Cheezit responded in the biweekly thread but yeah...Your first year will be the least busy, considering your major. Me and Spam both have pretty big dorm lounges, spam's is much bigger though for actual tourny. Just trying to help out :-/

The Windsor Room at my hotel is huge. It would work out fine if people brought TVs and Gamecubes for Melee.

It looks like right now there won't be much melee til school starts back up, which is a shame. I think TSA and ToS are doing melee events, but thats probably it for the summer. IDK, thats not that bad considering theres not too much summer left.

Cheezits took 40% of the pot it was still fun. As long as they don't take that much AND charge a venue fee.

double game runs fine if the TOs are competent

there was a 4-tournament (melee+brawl singles+doubles) 50-man tournament like 2 months ago, and it took around 9 hours I believe, and we didn't even need to switch setups (something like 5 brawl tvs, 5 melee tvs, open for friendlies while the opposing game's tournament(s) were running) // run matches simultaneously (except towards the end of brackets, with like 5 people left)

it all comes down to the TO (and the willingness of people to cooperate)

It think its fairly obvious by now, with the title, and a two day event...I'm fairly sure its gonna be all three. Probably melee and 64 one day, and brawl the other.

iight everybody there is this place called game table in L..I. around where parallax used to be. they just opened up and right now eli and I are tryin to talk to them about melee tournaments. right now melee isn't so popular with the noobs but we are gonna need them for this because there are more noobs than actual players and majority rules seems to be the trend. so what eli and I were thinkin was to wait until game table hosts another brawl event and then try our best to shove melee in it as much as possible and make people like it more over brawl. but we are gonna need everyone to coooperate so please try and come when i tell u the date is, L.I. NYC PA NY everybody.
also we want to try to make the venue see that melee has more hype than brawl and influence them to host a melee tournys and such.

Well basically we're gonna try to make an effort with this Game Table place. If you guys like another place more, that doesn't change the fact that we have a good chance of getting melee back in this particular place as well. So I think it would really help the melee scene a lot of we got as many heads as possible to show up and support melee.

The important thing is not to insult brawl while doing it though... we want people to realize the terrible things about brawl on their own while watching us abuse things that make the game boring and simple, and hype them up about things in melee that are entertaining. Also we want "brawl noobs" or just anyone who stopped playing melee... or just anyone who is new at all... to just see things that are awesome in melee... and fox waveshining somebody isn't really what I'm talking about...lol. Bring out a bunch of characters that aren't in brawl or are very different or very good in melee as opposed to brawl. You know... hype it up.

Of course... if this doesn't work out... then I think not enough people care about this game anymore to bring it back so why should I be motivated to put in all this effort lol.

Give the tourney a name, make 2 threads (1 in regional boards, and one in tournaments), make sure you put all the info people will need, and try to give housing to those who need it. If you want it big, you've gotta work for it.

thank you. i've been lookin for something to do about it, i knew there was more but i didn't know what. to be honest i'm not very good on the boards so now i know, i just need to find out how to make all these threads and things but i will. and if there is anything u can tell me please do. i'm tryin to make this ginormous!!!
