Muddy will probably be an AT. When Sakurai said "he might already be in the game" he didn't say as a playable character. We all assumed he was in, because he didn't know about ATs.

Actually, you have read the quote completely wrong (no offense). Go back to the first page and read it carefully. Sakurai actually said: "he's so interesting, he might be in the roster already!"

Muddy COULD be playable, but he would work better as an AT. I am only being realistic. I am somewhat more supportive of the underdog characters, so personally, I would love to see him. I just don't think it'll happen.

This is called "The Animal Kingdom" (not to be confused with a place at Disney's theme parks), which not only mentioned Muddy, but also the Duck Hunt Dog, Lucario, Meowth, Dixie Kong, and DeMille from Tomato Adventure.

If this is called "The Animal Kingdom", then I bet IGN will create a page discussing about Nintendo's robot characters like Skapon from Joy Mech Fight, Harry from Teleroboxer, one of the Rays from the Custom Robo series, the ST Falcon from Battle Clash and Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge, and perhaps Tin Star from the game of the same name.

Muddy the Mole might enter, because of Sakurai saying "he's so interesting, he might be in the roster already!" However, like most Game Boy titles, Mole Mania didn't sell well, due to most people playing home consoles than hand-helds, until Zelda: Link's Awakening and the Pokemon titles were released. It's almost like people are calling the Game Boy the "Lame Boy".
