is there a guide on how to install the textures?
I don't really know if there's a written guide, but you will need GC Rebuilder.
In GC Rebuilder you open your Melee ISO
In the ISO the character costumes are named like PlFxNr.dat (Fox Neutral) and PlCaBu.dat (Falcon Blue) for example.
Here are the names for each costume file
Let's say I want to replace Jigglypuff's neutral R-costume
I will go to PlPrNr
The original costume will have the .dat extension
Costumes activated with the L and R triggers will have .lat and .rat extensions respectively
I just right click PlPrNr.rat, click Import and select the skin I want to have
and that's all

Can someone link me to the thread that has the rainbow shines and stuff?

Like I said in my other response, this can be done with DAT Texture Wizard (DTW) a bit easier, since the files are more organized, and you don't need to look up what the file names mean (not trying to force it on anyone; just not sure if you just missed it). Plus, it includes a Character Color Converter (the "CCC" tab) so, for example, you can change a costume that normally goes over a red slot to instead go over a green slot.

@Gabezilla, basically the process using DTW is the same as the process Minerali explained for GCR. It should be pretty strait forward. Give it a shot, and then feel free to come back and ask any questions. That 'whole file' method will of course replace all of the textures in that file (for example if you wanted to do an entire character costume). If what you meant was to edit individual textures (like just the "M" on Mario's hat or something), you would open Mario's .DAT file in the program, look for the texture, and then import your new texture over that. The program comes with a ReadMe file on how to do pretty much anything, so check that out if there are still parts that are unclear.

Veggies Veggies Wow is that OP ever laggy to edit! I was thinking, since you reserved that second post, what do you think of me moving half of it to there? Should be a lot easier to add new stuff then.

Stage file Question: How do I change the texture of the stage on 20xx 4.05? On 20xx 4.05 the file system for some stages, Dreamland for example, has multiple files ("GrOp.0at" "GrOp.kat" "GrOp.rat"). Which file do I replace if I want a different texture. This is not a problem with vanilla or 20xx 3.02 iso.

GrOp.0at is regular Dream Land. Rename your file so it has .0at as the extension and replace it.

The file doesn't need to be renamed.

Also, if you use DTW, it shows what each file is within the ISO:

Whoops, I guess that was misleading. I meant rename as in change the extension. Sorry if I confused you Boamba Boamba
The extension doesn't need to be changed either if you're just replacing a file via GCR or DTW; you just select the original file in the ISO and import the new file. :p

It doesn't matter what the new file is named because the program just keeps whatever name the ISO already has for that file unchanged, and just grabs the data within the file being imported, and replaces the original file's data with that.

If you were rebuilding your ISO (extracting everything to folders and then recombining them to a new ISO), then the names would matter, but that process is unnecessary for a single file replacement (even for files that are different sizes than the originals, now that DTW can rebuild the ISO for you).

Am I the only one to run into MASSIVE lag spikes when someone dies on silly melee's yoshi's story ?

I am currently looking at the file's textures and I see there's not only the HQ textures, but the basic textures as well. Is it rendered two times or something ?
What would be good is to remove the island in the background, behind the stage.

I know specific textures say they replace specific colors for characters. Is it possible, using GCRebuilder, to replace for example Fox's green color by a texture submitted to replace his neutral color?

It is not possible with GCRebuilder, because of some stuff in the costumes files.

However, you can do this with DAT Texture wizard, it has a function to easily convert costumes into another

I don't think you can with GCRebuilder, but you can use the Character Color Converter (CCC) in DAT Texture Wizard.
You can get DAT Texture Wizard here:http://smashboards.com/threads/new-tools-for-texture-hacking-update-dtw-4-3-released-32-bit.373777/

Thank you to both of you.

Yeah, I still need to figure out a way to make his helmet/hair look better. Have some ideas in mind but still haven't got the time to test. Thanks a lot though!

All of the Young links seem to be broken... (lol)

No but seriously all of the young link reduxes w/tights links are broken. Does anybody have these files?

EDIT: The jester young link also leads to nowhere. Young link is hurtin right now.
Can someone edit the my skin link on the first page for graphic fox? It was the first one under green.
The link expired and the new one is https://mega.nz/#!0MATlIaS!rFPXRwBZJWmMmDppPWbKR-2hyYC_KbvCUVOXJQrv6Z8
The download link for Metaknight Marth doesn't work
Fixed.

Except for the Jester Young Link. We still need to find someone who has that!

Your link seems to be broken. Can you (or someone else) reupload?

What is the file that Yoshi's eggs uses called?
There are a lot of textures scattered around for that actually. It's kind of annoying. But here are some key points:
- Egg toss (up-B) and neutral-B are shared among all color Yoshis.
- PlYs** files for different Yoshi colors each have a spot texture. This is shared between side-B and shield, but also means you can have different color Yoshis have different eggs.
- You could have solid-color eggs if you want. Just make the texture is entirely that color and the edges of the texture will be used to fill the rest of the egg.
- The shards texture file in EfCoData is used any time any color Yoshi has an egg break from releasing shield, up-B, side-B, or neutral-B. This kinda sucks, because if you have different shield colors for different color Yoshis, or for different moves, then they can't all match the shards texture. Although if they have similar colors you probably won't really notice it. This is probably fixable with extra coding.

I've attached a text file explaining what egg textures in different locations are for.
