Official Melee Texture Hack Thread

I just finished an iso edit of like every character color, a couple effects edits, stages, cursors, and screens. I realized that it's making me desync on netplay but I don't have any remodeled or revectored skins that I know of.

Anyway is there a simple way of knowing what textures are causing the desyncs? or should I just go back to replacing them from the ground up and adding the misc things one by one until it starts desyncing again?

Hi guys
I don't know if someone already asked this but how can we change the shape of a character (like for exemple the Batman for Falcon or the Metroid Fusion skin for Samus)?

You can do this, yeah, but it's a lot of trial and error and our understanding of it is limited atm. It doesn't cover exactly what you want, but it covers a lot of the moving parts that you need to grasp to start messing with shapes.

Someone has probably asked this before but is there a way to batch import textures to DTW? For example, I batch exported CSS usd textures to a new directory called CSS_usd/. I then modified several of the pngs in that folder, but I had to import them all one-by-one. Can I import them all at once if I know that the directory's contents haven't changed (like I didn't add, rename, or remove any files)? Thanks, this would help a ton

Yes, there is. But only to a disc, not a standalone DAT file. If your texture files are using DTW's usual naming convention (explained below), which it sounds like yours are, then you can drag-and-drop all of them at once directly into a disc on the "Disc File Tree" tab (you can also use the menu option, Texture Operations -> Import Texture(s), which will do this if the Disc File Tree tab is the currently selected tab). You can even import many textures destined for multiple different DAT files at once this way; so theoretically you could replace all of the textures in a whole disc in one import.

DTW's usual naming convention for texture files is [sourceFile]_[textureOffset]_[textureType].[fileExtension], e.g. “MnMaAll.usd_0x70580_0.png". You can also prepend your own notes to file names too, for example: “Controller image_MnMaAll.usd_0x71f80_0.png"

You can also read about other advanced functionality that isn't immediately apparent in the GUI in the ReadMe.txt file.

Hey, I'm kinda new to Melee hacking. I replaced the original MnSlChr.0 file (default CSS) in my 20XX v.4.07++ with Itaru's CSS texture (20XX version) through DTW, and when I get on Nintendont through the Homebrew Channel on my Wii, 20XX doesn't boot up. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Probably, Cause is Itaru's CSS is for 4.05 and your 20XX is 4.07++.

Hey guys, I highly recommend everyone check out GameBanana. It has a fairly new-ish Melee section that hasn't quite filled out yet. They have a really good system both for categorizing and searching for skins, the whole site is pretty much custom tailored for mod sharing. I think if the section picks up enough speed it could in turn be good for the melee modding community. I myself already have some mods up there but it could really use all you talented guys. It would also be nice to have other people who are able to moderate and share news.

Ayy someone remembers me! haha

Yea! '50s Falco is still my favorite of my skins. Very proud of it. It got ported to PM, and Alex19 used a modified version of it for fox.
To be honest, I wish it got into the 4.07 release, rather than the Mordecai skin, but hey, can't complain.

I was in Sweden last fall. One day I went to the Malmö E-sports arena and saw some guy using the Mordecai skin.
What a surreal moment for me. My claim to fame :')

Also, gotta mention; your Lumberjack Falcon skin is one of my all-time favorites. Really cool idea

Dude that's crazy! Honestly the 50s falco is one of my all-time favorites too! It should definitely be added. It's so cool to see other people use your skin, its kind of like your personal spot in the community. I still remember screenshotting one of mango's streams where he was using my c9 marth skin and s2j was using my deadpool skin at the same time! Even though they weren't amazing skins, it's still insane to me.
