Mario’s Down Special Vs. Luigi’s Side Special

Overall Winner: Fludd
Range: Fludd
Priority: Fludd
Knockback and Stun: Luigi’s Meteor
Damage: Luigi’s Meteor
Speed and Lag: Fludd

Mario’s Fludd has loads of range and is completely disjointed it outrages the meteor because it can be angled up and down. It has more priority than Luigi’s side special and can stop a wide range of moves.

Mario’s Up Special Vs. Luigi’s Up Special

Overall Winner: Tie
Priority: Same
Speed and Lag: Mario
Range: Mario
Stun and Knockback: Luigi
Damage: Luigi

Luigi’s Up-Special has Knockback and Damage advantage while Mario’s is faster with more range, speed and less lag.

Mario’s Fireballs VS. Luigi’s Fireballs

Overall Winner: Mario’s Fireballs
Range: Mario
Priority: Disputed
Speed and Lag: Disputed
Knockback and Stun Mario
Damage: Luigi

Mario’s Fireballs have more range and work best when SH-Fireballed. The priority remains disputed but Mario’s Fireballs are fast enough to rush the opponent with rapid SH-FBalls. Mario's fireballs however lose momentum with every bounce on the ground however they are affected by gravity and increase in speed when launched while rising so the category is disputed. Knockback stun and range makes it much easier to SH-Fireball into a grab.

Mario’s Cape VS. Luigi’s F-Air

Overall Winner: Mario
Range: Mario
Knockback and Stun: Mario
Priority: Mario
Damage: Luigi
Speed and Lag: Luigi

Cape has more horizontal range and is disjointed so it has better priority than Luigi’s Aerial. It’s Knock back and stun is better than it was in Melee turning enemies completely around and ruining their recovery. Luigi's on the other hand is much weaker than in Melee nerfer=d signifigantly. Mario's move does around 8% damage slightly less than in Melee making it weaker than Luigi’s F-air. It’s also slightly faster and/or less laggy afterwards than in Melee, but still slightly slower than Luigi’s F-air.

Mario’s Downward Aerial Vs. Luigi’s Down Special

Overall Winner: Mario’s Aerial
Range: Luigi’s Down Special
Priority: Disputed
Knockback: Mario’s Aerial
Damage: Mario’s Aerial
Speed and Lag: Mario’s Aerial

Luigi’s Downward Special has lots of Range but still has many of the weaknesses that held the move back in Melee. It still has pitiful knockback with Mario’s D-air easily defeating it in that category. Mario’s D-air can do 14% damage 5 of 1% 1 of 2% and 1 of 7%. Like Sonic both in air and on Ground hitboxes can hit (See sonic’s Down Specical). Luigi’s Aerial still has the lag that it had in Melee while Mario’s is fast enough to Short Hop without any after lag.

Mario’s Side Aerial Vs. Luigi’s Down Aerial

Overall Winner: (Hotly contested) Tie
Range: Disputed
Priority: Disputed
Knockback and Stun: Disputed
Damage: Mario’s Aerial
Speed and Lag: Luigi Aerial

Mario’s Side Aerial VS. Luigi’s Down Aerial
Mario’s Side Aerial has three different hitboxes. The first of them does 12% another the spike does 13% and a third does 10%. The 10% hitbox is at the end of the move so much that it can send foes behind him. Luigi’s Down Aerial does 10-11%. Luigi’s Aerial is very fast with little lag at all enough to do two in one short hop. The Range Knockback and Priority of them is very hard to determine because they are closely related with different strengths and weaknesses.

Mario and Luigi’s Upward Aerials

Overall Winner: Luigi
Range: Luigi
Priority: Same
Knockback and Stun: Luigi
Damage: Luigi
Speed and Lag: Same

No contest here Mario’s U-Aerial does less damage and has less Knockback and Range than Luigi’s. Luigi can also jump higher making it easier to juggle foes with this move.

Mario’s Backward’s Aerial VS Luigi’s Backward Aerial

Overall Winner: Luigi
Range: Luigi
Priority: Disputed
Speed and Lag: Mario
Knockback and Stun: Luigi
Damage: Same

The surprise here is that Mario’s B-Air actually comes out slightly faster than Luigi’s with less lag even though it has slightly less Range knockback and stun. The damage is the same with the priority highly contested because both moves hit when in range. How effective this move on each character may come down to preference.

Mario and Luigi’s Nuetral Aerials

Overall Winner: Luigi
Range: Luigi
Priority:Luigi
Knockback and Stun: Luigi
Damage: Luigi
Speed and Lag: Same

No Surprise here Luigi’s Range, Priority, Knockback, and Damage totally outclass mario’s similar move. Luigi can KO with this move and uses it as a combo breaker because it has good priority and because he can cancel the lag.

Mario and Luigi’s Downward Tilts

Overall Winner: Luigi
Range: Mario
Priority: Disputed
Knockback and Stun: Luigi
Damage: Luigi
Speed and Lag: Same

Luigi’s Downward Tilt is better than Mario’s. Luigi’s has a much higher probability of making the opponent trip when it hits and attacking foes that have tripped causes them to lag further. The Priority is disputed though because both moves have different uses that can make them lethal. Luigi’s does more damage but Mario’s has more range. D-tilt can be used to break combos on the ground taking advantage of Mario’s ability to duck low under fire while luigi can crawl in and immobilize his foes.

Mario and Luigi’s Forward Tilts

Overall Winner: Luigi
Priority: Same
Range: Luigi
Speed and Lag: Mario
Knockback and Stun: Luigi
Damage: Luigi

Luigi has a stronger more damaging F-Tilt with more Range to boot but unfortunately it comes at a cost. Luigi’s F-Tilt is nearly twice as slow as Mario’s. Mario’s F-Tilt is fast enough to be used as a combo breaker on the ground. While Luigi’s is much better at racking up damage and knocking foes into the air.

Mario and Luigi’s Upward Tilts

Overall Winner: Mario
Range: Luigi
Damage: Luigi
Speed and Lag: Mario
Knockback and Stun: Mario
Priority: Mario

Mario has a better U-Tilt than Luigi. Luigi’s U-Tilt has nice range reaching out nicely in front and in back as well as above him. It also damages foes more than Mario’s. Luigi’s U-tilt however is much slower than Mario’s. Mario’s ranges from in front to above him with a relatively large hitbox compared to Luigi’s. Mario’s U-Tilt’s knockback is perfect for juggling trapping heavy enemies in the move. Luigi’s hitbox is too small in Brawl with much less priority than in Melee.

Mario and Luigi’s Standard Triples

Overall Winner: Luigi
Range: Luigi
Priority: Same
Damage: Luigi
Knockback and Stun: Luigi
Speed and Lag: Disputed

Luigi has a better Standard Triple with slightly better Range damage and Knockback. The Priority may be the same but because Luigi’s Butt moves faster than Mario’s Foot Luigi lags less and comes out faster. Mario however can punch slightly faster and in rapid succession with no lag at all. Luigi has a better standard Triple overall.

Mario and Luigi’s Dash Attacks

Overall Winner: Mario
Knockback and Stun: Mario
Range: Mario
Priority: Same
Damage: Mario
Speed and Lag: Mario

Mario has a better dash attack with better Knockback, Speed, Lag, Damage and Range than Luigi. Mario in addition to running faster than Luigi has a much better dash attack. It comes out fast with much less lag than in Melee making it possible to dash back and forth rapidly.

Mario and Luigi’s Grabs

Overall Winner: Luigi
Damage: Disputed
Priority: Disputed
Range: Disputed
Knockback: Luigi
Speed: Same

This category is as hotly contested as any other with Mario and Luigi both exceptional at grabs. Mario can increase the damage his grabs do by 1% hitting the opponent with a fireball and grabbing them before they stop burning making some of his grabs stronger in damage than Luigi’s. Priority is disputed because Luigi can miss grabs thanks to his low traction on the ground, but also extend his grab range through the same process. His Dash grab also has more range but both Mario and Luigi’s standing grabs have pitiful range.

Mario and Luigi’s U-Smash

Overall Winner: Tie
Range: Luigi
Knockback and Stun: Disputed
Speed: Same
Priority: Mario
Damage: Disputed

Mario and Luigi both have an amazing U-Smash. Luigi has more range while Mario’s has more priority. Mario can U-Smash away his own fireballs and other Projectiles while Luigi cannot. The Knockback and Stun is disputed because while Luigi’s U-smash’s have better KO Power in general they are more easily effected by DI. Running towards Luigi will make his move send opponent’s off at bad angles, while Mario has no such problem. Mario’s moves can be Died just not the same as Luigi’s. The speed of the moves are the same and Luigi’s can do between 15% and 12% depending on spacing while Mario’s just does 14%.

Mario and Luigi’s D-Smash

Overall Winner: Tie (Hotly contested)
Range: Same
Knockback and Stun: Mario
Speed: Disputed
Priority: Disputed
Damage: Luigi

Mario and Luigi’s D-Smashes are also very helpful. Luigi’s does 16% damage in front and in back but sends foes upward making it difficult to get the 32% double hit. Mario’s can double hit more easily damaging foes 27%. Easiest to see on bowser just roll with your back towards his face right infront of him and D-Smash. It will do 27% damage. Mario’s has better Knockback hitting fast and leading right into edgegaurding. Movement towards Luigi’s D-smash can really hinder its knockback. DI can hurt Mario’s D-smash as well.

Mario and Luigi’s F-Smash

Overal Winner: Mario
Range: Mario
Knockback and Stun: Luigi
Damage: Mario
Speed: Luigi
Priority: Mario

Mario’s F-Smash is a disjointed explosion while Luigi’s is a Powerful Karate Chop. Mario’s Explosion has more range and you can stutter step it. Luigi’s has more knockback. Mario’s does more damage but Luigi’s comes out faster. Being disjointed allows Mario to attack opponents with high priority and prevent their attack making his move more useful than Luigi’s

Final Verdict:
Mario and Luigi have their own strengths and weaknesses. Choosing which one to use is a matter of preference. Their moves are basically balanced leaving this Comparison in a tie 7 Marios, 4 Ties and 7 Luigis.

Yeah, the only terrible difference between them is the Fireballs, FLUDD, and Side special everything else is basically who you enjoy playing as.

Only things I like bout Luigi over Mario:

Luigi's crawl looks like crab people status.
It's too fun doing double sh aerials with Luigi.. can do it with Mario too, but SO much easier with Luigi.
Jab->UpB on people that don't expect it.
I like Mario's running A better, but Luigi's is just too funny ^^
Two words: Taunt spike.

why in the world are you comparing moves of completely different types? mario's dair vs luigi's down b? why not mario's dair vs luigi's dair. Seems you're just picking situations where mario has an advantage.

The only 2 instances where he did that were the one you mentioned, and cape vs Luigi's Fair. I haven't a clue why he'd compare those 2, but Mario's dair vs Luigi's Tornado were prolly compared because both are tornados. That's the only consistency I see. Most of the comparisons are moves from the same button input tho.

I was comparing FLUDD and Side Special becasue they are both two charge-up attacks.
Mario's D-air and Luigi's Down Special because they are both tornados.
Luigi's Downward Aerial and Mario's F-Air because they are both meteors and have different hitboxes.
Cape and F-air both attack in front of the character and allow them to do more moves in the same number of jumps.
All the other moves are the same move compared between the two characters.

...The categories don't have a "versatility" section, which is where some of the matchups would change.

Luigi's Fire Jump Punch is tied with Mario's Super Jump punch despite being one of the strongest uncharged KO moves in the game if not the strongest as well as being one of the fastest?

This is really stupid...if you're going to compare moves don't complicate it...compare correct moves
I agree, i may be biased but why would you compare fludd to green missile. AND give fludd the win. It does not have more range. And it helps with recovery.

I play Mario for his supreme juggling and edgeguarding abilities, but I use Luigi more for fun. Luigi has crazy KO power over Mario but overall I favor Mario for all his other traits.
