Before I get right into it, Several people in not only the local area, but also people who have traveled as far as illinois have expressed opinions that they would like to have a SSBM tournament to go too on a more often basis. Odie and myself decided that having a monthly SSBM tournament would be a great idea. Im sure most of you already know about this tournament:

http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=96442

This is, as were all hoping, going to be a huge success. As such, were going to be having monthly SSBM tournaments at his store after the April tournament. These will be big, fun tournaments, more than likely ran by Myself/Odie for the most part. Exact dates are yet to be determined as there are stuff we have to consider (school, holidays, etc) but they will be once a month of regardless. These tournaments wil be unranked, but feel free for those of you that have Video Recorders to bring them if you wish.

The rules and info below will apply to most if not all future tournaments, Starting with our March 24th tournament, but NOT including our April tournament thats being run by Webster at Odiez Sports Zone:

SUPER SMASH BROS MELEE TOURNAMENT!!!

Time:

Sign ups will be at Noon and last until...

Start Time:

1:00 pm (No exceptions for late people, no matter who you are or how good you are...we will start without you, if we can fit you in, we might...but dont count on it)

$2.00 at the door which is collected by Odie and goes into his pocket. if you dont have the money, Odie will not be letting you stay and play. The tournament itself will be $5.00 per person which goes torwards the payout for winners.

Store Rules:

Odie sells pizza, water, chips, candy and soda...NO CARRY-INs. Odie doesnt allow you to bring other food in, you must buy from him if your hungry or get hungry. NO GUM!!! Odie doesnt allow you to chew gum in his store, so spit it out before you come in. NO SMOKING, if you smoke, you have to go outside to do so. If you have any questions regarding this, or the prices for food stuff, please refer to the phone number listed in advance.

Other Rules:

Keep the swearing and yelling to a minimum, there is another business next to Odiez that wont appreciate the noise. No fighting, should be obvious. No attitudes, if you cant handling loosing then you probably shouldnt come, if your a hot head and you know you are...go outside and cool off then comeback in when your ready. All the rules will be enforced at punished at Odie's discretion, which may or may not include a store ban.

Please BYOC (Bring Your Own Controller)...we probably wont have extras for you to use.

Odie only has 2 Tvs and 2 power strips, so if any of you dont mind bringing stuff like: Gamecubes, copy of the game, extra controllers, TVs, power strips...please feel free to do so. It will be appreciated by myself and Odie.

Im aware some of you do have video recorders/cameras and like to record matches/take pictures. You are more than welcome to bring them as long as they dont become a major distraction/nuisance for the players.

Most Importantly...HAVE FUN!!!

$100 Bonus to First Place winner from Odie himself

The payouts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be based on attendance and decided at the event before we begin. I know alot of you have expressed your thoughts on what each place winner should get, so I figure its better to let the majority who show up decide what the payouts are.

Just to let you know, you're competing with SMYM7, which is the biggest tournament series in the Midwest right now on that date and is in Illinois as well. Might want to either move or just expect low attendance.

PEOPLE SHOULD COME. And smym7 is in champaign IL, like 1.5 hours south of chicago or something. All I know is it takes a friggin 4 hour drive from Madison, WI to get there, with only a 2 hour drive to Racine. Me, my brother and one of my friends are going to the Racine tourny, so meet us there! I'll bring the wii and our 4 controllers if more people show up. We're also planning on getting 8 player mariokart going, which would be tons of fun, guaranteed. Bottom line, come to Racine WI March 24'th.

If I were you, I'd go to SMYM 7. =\

SMYM 7 has like.. a bunch of good smashers from not only the midwest but the east coast as well. It's huge!

Racine tourneys are always very small. Seriously.. go to smym. It's defenately worth it!

even though.. I will probably go to this because I dont think I can make it to smym anymore =( its just too much out of my pocket right now

I could either drive 4 hours by myself friday, come back saturday night (as I'm leaving Sunday morning to go back to college), or I could take two of my friends and go to racine for the day, and get a taste of how good people are at smash. This will be my first tourny, and so I'm going to be smart about my skills and say i'm not too great, lol. I think going to Racine is definitely the better choice, not to mention the money i'd be saving from gas.

I'm still gonna disagree with you there, because racine people arent anywhere as good as the ones going to smym.. infact I still might go to smym if I can.

...but if I don't go to smym, I'll go this instead and play you. Im a sorta-solid peach player.. but no where as good as the top players

Sometimes its not an issue about the competition, moreso than it is a budget. Im sure most people would want and probably are going to this SMYM, but the drive, the money, and playing better people (just to lose), isnt really worth it for others.

Quaz, did you miss that this will be my first tourny? Lol, I mean, I figure that it being my first tourny, no matter how much I practice or get good at wavedashing with luigi, I will get owned by 95% of the people that attend. As I said earlier, I just want a taste of what's out there :D . I don't doubt that it would be tons of fun going down to champaign, but for it being my first tourny, I just have a feeling a small one might be better. I guess I still could be wrong, but for now that's my reasoning :p

lol, and I would love to play your peach. I've never faced a good peach b4, much less, faced anyone good before, lol. So far, I've got one friend that's a little better than me who plays as falco.

lol, I thought there'd be some sort of screenname. Since my college requires our e-mail addresses to contain last name then middle and first initial, I just started using that for all my usernames. Turned out lame for this site, lol. On games and stuff it's usually i_is_the_suxor.

Well now that we have more coming I should mention that if you want to actually do friendlies or have practice matches before the tourny, make sure to get there EARLY...its bad enough we still get late entries to the tournament itself, but its even worse when they complain that they didnt have time to warm up before hand, if you cant make it there early, then pratice at home before you come. Keep in mind the start time is 1pm, sign up or at noon and continue until 12:59, NO EXCEPTIONS...depending on how you late you come you might not even get to play in the tourny itself or you will have to enter with a match loss depending on how many rounds have already progressed.

I apologize for the double post, but Id like to thank everyone that did show up for showing up and even wth only 8 people playing, it was success.

I sure hope I get to play you again olsonpm and your friends, its always nice to play other people of close skill level and to learn more about other players and how they play. Your luigi is actually slightly better than websters and you can only improve on it, you definetely have wavedashing down. That guy with jiggly puff was one of the better jiggly puffs I ever played, very smart using rest on someone trying to recover or in mid air, ill have to work on another character with more ranged attacks just to counter that. As ofr the gannondorf guy, you did very well, my only suggestion is get familiar with alot of the faster character and dont get tipped by sheik, lol. If I was a better player after the first d-tilt they can keep you juggled from 0% to near 50%. Just be mindful to keep more distance against characters with that much speed.

And Quaz, congrats as usual...your peach is much faster than brians and I cant use the same approach on you that I do on him.

Anyway for those intrested:

Quaz 1st Place
Chris (jigglypuff) 2nd
Sheik (me) 3rd

No glitches? Does that include wavedash? Super wavedash? Double Shine? Can You give me a list of glitches that cannot be used? or just say which glitches, if any, are fine to use.

Well i dont wanna start another debate on wether or not WD is a glitch or not, but from my 16 years of personal experience theres 2 types of stuff in every game:

Glitch - Something beyond the normal boundaries of the game and usually involve doing things within the game that were never meant to be done... (In the case of SSBM, that would be the black hole and the samus bomb warp *or whatever you kids call it* and the "Ness jacket"

Exploit - Taking advantage of moves, materials, or the game enviroment to gain an advantage (unfair or not). These are not glitches in the sense that these can be done by anyone with patience and or practice and pretty much anywhere within in the game where it allows and or can be done. (I put WaveDashing in this category as well as L-cancelling).

With that being said, alot stuff the "pros" do I consider simple exploits they learned to have an edge over their opponent, which is fine.

I dont/wont tolerate glitches in ANY of my tournaments. As far as SSBM goes, that would include the samus thing and G&W reportedly being able to jump through the corneria ship at certain points as well as the "Ness jacket." Now im sure theres more glitches as well as exploits than the ones I mentioned, but any kind of glitch wont be tolerated...Im sure you know more about them I do.

Samus's Super Wavedash (a.k.a the bomb warp) is not considered a banned glitch since it doesn't do anything that makes her broken. Even ness's jacket isn't considered banned because of the fact it also doesn't do that much for Ness, and also that it's so friggen hard to get off

It is up to you as the host, however, to decide what "glitches" are and aren't acceptable, and if you deem those unacceptable, that's fine, but you should clarify it before hand.

Just as a general list, these are the unaccepted glitches in Smash

1.) Black Hole Glitch
2.) Soul Breaker Glitch (Mewtwo)
3.) Freeze Glitch (Ice Climbers)

pretty much everything else is allowed.

Sorry I didn't make it to this, I was completely unaware. I could've brought a good 5-6 people too, but eh, whatcha gonna do. I'll be at the next one for sure with a posse.

 You didnt see the thread here or my post in websters thread? Oh well, gald to see you can make the next one.

In any case, regarding the glitches that is, we had no problems or incidents involving glitches of any kind...nobody used ness, nobody used samus, nobody used mewtwo, and there were no items or teams so black hole couldnt be done. You are correct that as the host I have to pretty much make the decision on whats acceptable and whats no, and more importantly I have to consider the people who arent as good as U or I who actually even heard of such glitches let alone how to avoid them and get around them, I dont want a not as experienced player losing a match to some move that hes never even seen before thats killing him over and over...and that goes for any tournament I host. But, I hope ny now AND with SSBB on the way, you guys have been playing this game long enough to use your better judgement and not resort to those tactics against people who really dont have any intention of trying to get that first place bonus and just show up to play and have fun. Id hate to DQ someone for using cheap trickery or just being a sore loser.

This will apply to all tournaments from now on as well, not just the one we had yesterday...And just to note, I copied the rules from webster, so his tournament (Im guessing) will be run in a similiar manner...no glitches in the april tournament either, but that will be websters decision to determien whats a glitch and whats not, and I doubt he'll be as level headed about it as I am when the time comes.

I hope everyone is on the same page about glitches now...so lets never speak of them again.

Nope :ohwell: but I'll be at the next one for sure, and Webster's as well
Great, bring as many people as possible to help get the word out...I managed to get 8 people to show up, so this time we can try for at least a dozen. Are you gonna show up at websters house for pre-tournament practice on the 31st?

OMG...I'm so happy to see that someone stepped to the plate and continues to keep the ball rollin, for future tournaments at Odiez.

I'll be there for this tournament, it'll be nice to actually be an attendee of a tournament there for a change. However, I can help run Soul Calibur 2 and Naruto tournament...considering I'll be winning them both anyways...LOL!:chuckle:

I'll also be introducing Naruto Accel at this tournament too. And other new fighting games never before seen in the United States!!!

Well we shall see based on attendance and time if we get a chance to play all those games webster, but of course if we do end up playing them, feel free to get some rules typed up before hand.

I thought the black hole glitch was legal? I did it vs Xtra in the loser's bracket of OiR 2 and nobody seemed to care...
It really comes down to where and when and whos in charge at the time, as its gonna vary place to place, time to time. I can pretty much guarantee that black hole is gonna result in a DQ in any of our tournaments, but thats only during the tournaments and if im in charge. Friendlies and practice game I dont really care what you do. Of course as the old saying goes, if the ref didnt see it, it didnt happen...and of course if no one complains, then no action will be taken.
