I will only forgive the delay if Ness got massively buffed and if the dev team solves all possible game-breaking glitches (Lumiose City glitch anyone?).

Major bummer for me. I was really looking forward to playing this during the summer when I have more free time. By the time Fall arrives, I'll be busy with school again. Sigh, if it makes for a better game in the end, the wait is worth it I suppose. Still salty though

Very sad to see it get delayed, and it worries me even more that the Wii U will end up getting delayed as well, but... I guess I'll live. Mario Kart is keeping me occupied and there's a few great games between now and October so I guess I'll be distracted enough, provided I can afford them.

If you guys go to the Japanese smash bros site you'll see that Japan is getting an earlier release.
http://www.smashbros.com/jp/3ds/
If you look at the bottom of the art work it says September 13, 2014
I suppose I am seriously considering the option; I do not want to wait almost an extra month, but at the same time, I do not want to waste hundreds of dollars to play the game early.

*sigh* OF COURSE the Japanese get it before we in the states or in Europe do as per usual :/ If only I had been born in Japan....

Obviously October is later than most of us wanted, but given the last full day of summer in the US is September 21st, that's really only missing a Summer release by less than 2 weeks.

It sucks but they have to do it to maintain sales in Japan. Game prices are way worse there, and seeing as most Japanese learn a fair amount of English, importing a cheaper copy on launch from the US is a pretty viable option. Domestic sales keep the ship afloat.

By the way, I actually hate when somebody announces a date using those "descriptive" things like "Holiday Season", "Summer" etc. now that I think of it. These completely do not translate all over the world. When I heard "summer" for the first time, I didn't even think of September as an option, that's early autumn from my viewpoint, the temperature getting cooler and stuff. And there's obviously southern hemisphere, but at least there the changes are obvious.

Not that it is too connected to the whole situation though. But if you are announcing a game or anything, I politely ask you to not do this.

I'm a bit sad with the release date, but I understand the time is being used to debug and whatnot.

Here's to hoping we get an Eshop demo to tide us all over until October :chuckle:

I hope we don't get a scenario like Brawl again where the release for pretty much everywhere except Japan was delayed more times/longer (I forget exactly what happened, but I remember there being something along those lines).

Of course, with a difference in release dates of about 3 weeks, I'm sure I won't be able to resist spoiling the roster for myself.

Well, it's less than 4 months, at least. Here's hoping there's some more good news to hold us over until release.

I'm pretty sure that the reason for why Japan gets the game first is to see if any glitches are spotted. That way, patches can be made before the international release.

While I too am depressed about the delay, it's obviously for a good cause.

Pretty much this. I don't mind the delay at all personally, just so long as the end product ends up being joyous to play.

I'm just happy I don't have to wait months after the Japanese and American releases again.....

As much as I would have preferred the games on the same month as Japan, Seeing as I still have a lot of plans during the summer, I guess I can wait a little longer...

Great news for me if this reduces the gap between the WiiU version. I might be able to justify skipping the 3DS version (and buying a 3DS) and instead only have to buy a WiiU for now

Honestly, I'm fine with it. More time to polish up the game.

After the delay of Brawl when it first came out and the delay of the more recent Pokemon bank as well, I can't even get upset about these kinds of delays anymore. Hopefully they'll spend that extra time refining the game to the best they can for both versions rather than for some sort of other silly reason, so long as they do, I'll be just as okay with the delay as the next guy.

Well, there's only about a 3 weeks difference between the two. It's more likely localization or some other process causing the delay.

Smash bros always gets delayed. I would find it odd if I didn't see SSB getting delayed at least once or twice. Theres just so much depth to the game that it requires a lot of time. As annoying as delays are, Im fine with it since I know I'll be getting a better product.

Ummm...US import games are actually RIDICULOUSLY marked up for us, just as similar as import games are for you in the US, there's a host of reasons they may have decided to do this but it certainly has nothing to do with prices. Also...game prices are not "way worse" either. In fact they are cheaper depending on the current value of the USD.

We pay around 6000y right now for a brand new home console game which, right now is roughly 1=1 give or take a few decimals in USD ($60 no tax) where as you pay 59.99 + tax, usually coming out to 64-65.

There was a 3 month wait between the JP and NA releases of 64. There was a week wait for melee, and there was about a month and a week wait for brawl. So compared to some of the waits for past games in the series these 20 days will be nothing.

So, either they're gonna pull the other 20 or so characters out of a magic box in the next 2 months, or we're gonna see alot of character cuts. Third possibility is that they are amazing at keeping sh#@ secret and the game is practically finished at this point.

Just to clarify; we only have 15 veterans left (including Snake, Squirtle, and Ivysaur). If we are to presume the Sal Romano leak to be true (which many do), that would entail three additional newcomers (therefore making potential omission negligible). After that, there is some debate subject to whether or not both Ness and Lucas will make the final cut (so about 14 remaining characters, as opposed to 20).

We actually have three months (as opposed to two) before the Japanese version launches as well. I would not be surprised to see more information about Smash in another Nintendo Direct either. After that, one must consider that there is always the possibility for hidden unlockable characters. So it is not actually that unreasonable.

So, the release date is not actually unexpected. There will be time for everything.

Or neither of these possibilities? They delayed the game to fix bugs. I don't mind waiting more if that means I will get a more polished game.

Yeah but I think that 20 is more believable because Ridley's pretty much confirmed and you know that Sakurai is gonna justify having 6 ridley clones to duke it out with the 3 new Fox clones he's got in the works.

Wasn't smash bros was going to be JP only but it got so popular that they imported it to NA?
Yeah, ya cant really use the first game as an argument to justify the wait between a game in this day and age. Man, Melee was completed and released almost simultaneously worldwide quicker than any other smash and it arrived on time for the console launch. I wish it was possible to do that again, but I don't want Sakurai to kill himself to please us.

That has nothing to do with the release date
I imagine they mean that now the release dates of those games are relatively close whereas before many though Smash was coming out in July or August, and that they wont make enough money between the two release dates.

Yeah, but if they could afford to spend 40 bucks on a game during summber, why not just keep that money in the safe or w/e instead of spending it on something else? I get what they're saying, but the release date has no effect on that

The 3rd of October is Unity Day, so I'm pretty sure the stores in Germany will have it at the 2nd already. Also, I'll get fall holidays very soon after this. Which means I'll have a lot of time for Smash. No summer release is kinda unfortunate, but it kinda fits for me at least. So it isn't too bad. At least the game isn't rushed, as I said earlier ;)

A little upset with the 3 week gap between Japan and the rest of the world, as someone who intends to go in spoiler free,it pretty much means no internet for me for a good while.

I'm a bit sadden that we get it on October 3rd meaning I can't enjoy it over the summer. But better late than never? Also, I was hoping they released Smash Bros 3DS a month or two earlier than that since it will hurt the sales of it. I can't predict the future but I can assume that with a release date that close, people might end up waiting a month or two for Smash Bros Wii
