Barack Obama was one of 205 people nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize this year ('09). He is being awarded the prize "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

Many points in the articles I have read note that he is still involved in two wars, has failed to pass a bill on climate change, "has yet to yield concrete achievements in peacemaking." A dissenting opinion is that the Nobel Peace Prize can act almost as insurance, to further put strength behind his push towards his international goals. "The Norwegian Nobel Committee countered that it was trying 'to promote what he stands for and the positive processes that have started now.'"
Do you believe that Obama is currently deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize? Do you think that it is too early to see if Obama has succeeded in strengthening international diplomacy, or in contrast, do you think that his efforts have succeeded and he has already made a great impact for peace on an international scale?
My opinion, really, is... why so soon? He will be in office for a number of years to come, and at that time, either his accomplishments will hold merit instead of just promise, or he will have stagnated towards reaching his goals.
