I'm curious how far players from these states will travel in order to attend a tournament. I'm aware that size will play a huge part in a final decision but I ask because I've been wondering if there is ever a weekend that smash had literally no event in our areas, if anyone would travel to north Jersey. Mainly my house or area is what I'm referring to.

It's not difficult for me to host an event, or at least get a venue. My house can support a large crowd for smash and I could possibly get a venue for cheap too. This would only be if there was nothing going on, mainly in NJ or close by NY. I just wanted to know if I should ever bother. My town is Montague in case anyone wants to mapquest or google maps it before a response.

Some thoughts are appreciated.

I could catch a ride with Brandon or Izumi if you were to ever hold something up there.

Yes, I've been having car issues till recently so I know how its annoying not to have one.
if its 30min or less i can maybe come
It wouldn't be. Im like an hour and 30 from you.

You live somewhat near me, so it isn't a problem if it is in state.

OoS is what I can never attend.
I think I'm pretty far from you too,but if in state is what matters then cool.

If it was on a Saturday during December or January then there is a possibility I would go for the end. (get there at like 7/730)

No, It's only if there is nothing going on in our area. I just wanted to ask now in case I ever plan something. It's very easy to get a venue over here, or use my house. If I did use my house there would be basically no venue fee. I would only charge one to encourage setups.

Just letting you know.

If it was on a Saturday
Woah woah woah... You can do stuff on Saturday now?

Kai I have no problem driving around North Jersey. I do have a problem driving around middle of nowhere where there's more bears than people. Seriously though I'm lazy and my travel time cap is around 30-40 minutes while google maps is telling me you're 70-80 =-(. My limit is honestly around lake hopatcong on 80 or vernon on 23. Past that is farm country where I'll only go if I'm not the driver.

Definitely understandable.

The issues arise when the venue is in a place not easily accessible by public trans. I know a lot of smashers younger than me that have cars, and that definitely helps.

I've always considered renting a car--(but that's mad pricey already, even if it's split)

Worse comes to worst, I will go back to my parents house in DE and borrow the car for Sat-Sun. But it would cost people riding in the car money for gas and ****.

After it is dark out I'm allowed to do stuff.

id go to your house. hosting mid sized tournies like that is pretty good. i hosted one once with 18 ppl in singles and 6 doubles teams i think and it ran really nice in my basement, as long as u get exp'ed ppl to help. if inui goes obvs he will co run it with u.

the nice thing about venues is when they are like near fast food + restaurants and public trans

Yeah I wouldn't expect anything big. My basement is essentially another floor to my house since it's carpeted, insulated, has a air hockey table(real one, not ****ty plastic), Pool table(real one ), and foozball(however it's spelled). I'd clear all that to a section of the basement and use the rest. It can fit about 50 comfortably but I wouldnt expect that many to show. 30 max would be my guess

I agree 100% about the food thing. Unfortunately, there is nothing within walking range. If people didn't want to drive there is always the pizza delivery option(like doom uses).

The closest place is less than 5min away(Pizza place).

I doubt I'm doing anything soon. I'd only host if there was a lack of an event. With max's, battle royal, inuis, and powerplay there isnt a saturday without something planned. If I do have something ill give plenty of notice though.

Bridgewater is about an hour and 15min away

One thing I will say is that when I had about 14-18 people in my basement (around that, right?) and it got really hot. Like tournament level hot. And it smelt like tournament for the next day. And because it was so hot I had two dehumidifiers running and then we blew a fuse and had to no longer have the dehumidifiers on. Other things to note is that I felt totally awkward for having BigM and Kingz over my house, and my parents now think I'm a pedophile.

Weird, cause when I had a smashfest and only BigM, Kingz, Remix and a friend came over my parents didn't think I was a pedophile...

You're not going to Hell if you enjoy your Saturday like the rest of the human race does, dude...
Can't believe I never saw this until now... I agree 100%. Problem is I have parents and they control if I can use their car and whatnot. Next year I'll be in college so I can do whatever I want.
