So, whenever the new 3ds comes out, should I get the normal 3ds or xl? I own the regular 3ds and my brother has an xl, is there a difference in picture quality or anything? ( I haven't played an xl enough to tell the difference)

You will see a slight pixelation (if you pay attention) on the XL, because the resolution is kept the same. However, the XL will give you better battery, and the screen size is such a blessing, especially with action games.

I went back and forth on which one I wanted a while back. I actually borrowed my friend's OG 3DS, and just found it to not only be too crammed up, but playing a game like KH 3D was bad for my eyes. The XL is the way to go.

@ theeboredone theeboredone pretty much covered everything I have to say. Obviously XL is more expensive, but I'm so glad I went with it as opposed to the regular one. If you're a stickler for 100% perfect quality image you might have issues, but the pixelation doesn't bother me, and even though I don't have trouble seeing smaller screens, it's just so nice playing even original DS games on the larger screen.

Somebody who has less of a one-sided experience with the two types of 3DSes might be able to give you the other side, but I'm 100% satisfied that I went with the XL so I wholeheartedly recommend it.

That's what I'm talking, I stated it in my first post.
Fair enough. For me it comes down to this:

Large: Better battery and larger (though same resolution) screen
Small: Different outside plates you can replace to customise the look of your new 3DS.

I think you need to see of the large screen will be ok for you. I've used a large old 3DS and it looked ok to me. But it's such a personal thing, there's no right or wrong answer here. Also I'd have more of a play with your brothers large to see if you are ok with how it's screen looks.

I find the regular 3DS to be the perfect size to fit in your pocket, so for portability it's ideal. I also don't really have any qualms with the screen size, though the 3DS XL from what I've played is pretty nice, just not as portable.

In terms of the New 3DS, the regular version will have a bigger screen than the original 3DS so that's a plus, it also has the lovely faceplates which I'm very excited about, some of them look great, and the SNES coloured buttons. For me it's a no brainer, the New 3DS' aesthetic and improvements are better than the New 3DS XL's which is just very bland in comparison.

Also the regular New 3DS is the focus in this adorable advert starring Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, when will your fave?
