alan:
let's look at tang:
kfc beats tang, tang loses to people that he probably shouldn't sometimes
tang beats pink shinobi
how do you resolve this type of issue?

obviously a 'history' of being good is beneficial, but it didn't help jeff over come paul to be first.

also, we need more tournaments in norcal.
socal has melee tournaments every weekend
we haven't had once since wcsl

Its pretty easy to make rash judgments on how a list should be made considering that you have absolutely no idea on how the panelists made the list.

that's a bad thing though

the process/criteria that the panelists use should be as available to the public as the list itself, instead of some mysterious, under-the-hood BCS-type formula that spits out a list of players -_-

(yes i'm aware the BCS formula is actually pretty open and available, but that doesn't stop it from producing questionable results -_-)

wrong

zhu's was the weekend after none since then

LOL
and he was at zhu's

what a dummy

We pull names out of hat to start, then we alphabetize and finally we let a monkey pick by color and pictures of the people who's name were drawn.

That public enough for you.

I see how that could be a problem, so maybe we could factor in how those players are doing against other members of the rankings, and then relate that to how tang is doing against them and others. Also, pick up on how well a certain player does in certain match ups, and then bring that into question when deciding if they should make the list/how they move up/down

Dude the ****ing Monkey is mine, I play Animal Crossing with him all day.

I'm in a pissy mood today, so just wait for Sheridan or Lunin to make a 3 paragraph post on how we do ****. Don't listen to Phil or Justin though, Rey put them on and he makes really dumb decisions.

Are there any rooms in SJSU that are up for rent, for students NOT attending?

If not, then im willing to provide some donations to help run more NCBs, with someone who attends SJSU.

Ohkay.

Here's the method. Let's say we are doing top 5 rankings.

1) Specify a cut-off date (we chose August to be the latest month where bracket placement is relevant)
2) Decide which smashers are active for ranking
3) Identify the top competitors (in this case, the top 8 or so)
4) Determine who's placed best throughout the 8, then the next 7, then 6,..., then 3, and the last 2
5) Search for important matches that could have caused a player to place lower than "expected"
6) Account for possible fluke-matches
7) With recent bracket placement, player history and important matches, analyze who'd place the best in a major tournament where each player doesn't play each other, then the next best and so on

We follow that. Anybody can generally do it if they know how to interpret bracket results with respect to each competitor and be able to argue based on Recent success who would place higher out of any 2 smashers at a major tournament far away (or close).

I like the rankings list because the panelists are reliable with their decisions. We do not vote and tally, we reason until we get group-agreement. We still do not agree on every claim right away, but we usually solve this by looking at player history. This is better than having a post-happy smasher post his top 15.

I believe the list is just about accurate based on tournament winnings and loses. We considered everyone wins in the past and lost. I mean we could even put HK on it who beat Tang on the list but he lost to Shroomed like a Bijillion times in the other recent tourney.

Overall I believe the list is pretty accurate for the top maybe 9? but 10-15 was pretty hard to decide on kinda lol.

If you dont like the list... Then YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE AND DO BETTER IN TOURNEY AND COME TO MORE TOURNEYS

Yes I wasn't expected to be a panel list either, but Zoap obviously hates me for it =/.

the problem with the list
is that after the first 7 there's a noticeable gap in skill. there are players not on the list that would be up in that top 7s area if they started going to tournaments again [bob$ and THE king come to mind, as well as a nonsandbagging isai], but as the list stands I think there is a definite 'line' there. maybe if lucien is going to tournaments again he could prove himself of deserving of that top section, but for now...

SHOW THEM YOUR GANON-NESS

I dont recant the fact that Joe is the best Ganon in Norcal.

I mean, Nick did improve from when I played him at SJSU to WCSL, but I just think Joe has more experience.

But of course im going to be biased.
