Looks like it's my turn to be behind on responding.
Well, my main point with the movie, was that the movies are usually the one to influence a generations most popular Pokemon, case and point Lucario and Zoroark for Gen 4 and 5.
Those two movies are the exceptions, really. Most others have focused on a particular legendary. The movies are one way of telling who's a big deal in each generation, but there are other things. It's not all that clear cut, you know?
Really, Lycanroc is Ash's Gen 7 signature Pokemon this time? Huh, guess I really need to catch up on the anime.
You'd be surprised how few people know that! Actually,
I've been surprised by it. It's the reason why my approach has changed in the last couple weeks, from realizing many people simply do not realize Lycanroc is a viable option!
Wait if Lycanroc is the Lucario archtype of Gen 7, does that mean he's a Pseudo-legendary? Didn't know that.
I see the others have touched on it already, but yeah, Lucario archetype and pseudo-legendary are two different things.
You know, you were the one who actually convinced me Decidueye wasn't a lock in. Anyway as you said, if they do decide to complete the starter Trio, I can easily see them deciding to use other gen Grass starters, I just hope they'd avoid using the gens already in Smash. And anyhow Meganium, Torterra and Serperioir do also bring something unique to the table, like Decidueye, with their builds and the character concepts they use.
Personally for me, I'd love if they choose Sceptile, if they chose to do the whole let's complete the starter trio, but that's only if they choose to do the Starter Trio for Smash 5, but I doubt they'll do it, just because fans think it would be a neat idea.
Well, careful. Gen 7
is the relevant one right now, so the chances of them pulling a Grass starter from a different generation are...low. I just want people to not be so quick to pencil in one character as if they're the only option from their franchise when others still exist, including one that's been staring them right in the face. We saw it happen with Chrom, and I'd rather we didn't let history repeat itself, as someone who spent time on the receiving end of a
lot of bull crap for questioning the Gematsu leak despite the evidence that it wasn't comprehensive.
That said...it's worth keeping Gen 8 in mind
even though it's probably happening next year, not this year. If they're considering DLC--and let's be honest, they probably are--they may pass on adding a Grass starter now, and add something with a rarer power set, because they'd have a different Grass starter to work with down the road. Not to "complete the trio", just because we have no one with plant powers on the roster and it'd be unique, but we also have no one built around earth/stone powers either and they're rarer. We could see a repeat of Corrin here, where they pull the trigger on a unique idea (Corrin's partial shapeshifting in that case) that they may not get another chance to use, and it's a scenario that we should be considering.
Well, what I actually meant was, most of Ash's non fire starters have a tendency not to reach their final evolutions. Also with only 2 of Ash's grass starters only ever reaching their final stages, I'm thinking Decidueye's popularity won't explode like people are hoping.
It's more that not many of Ash's team members
did evolve up until Kalos. Correlation doesn't mean causation, as they say. And while fan popularity alone doesn't decide who gets into Smash, we did see something interesting from that one poll that made the rounds that asked who everyone's favorite mons of each type were. Decidueye finished 2nd among Grass types, while Lycanroc took 2nd
and 3rd among Rock types.
