Welp, finally back from that gaming convention I went. I'm preparing a post about my experience in it, but decided to post more Smash thoughts separately.
I played Smash Ultimate! (Part 2)
Saturday was rough, there were lots of people so I had to wait really long to play. Either way, I played with Pika on a doubles match and we got bodied. Even though Pika nair and dair looks super strong, the opponents were Link and Zelda, and both of them seemed to outrange Pika, making it rather difficult to get into. And my teammate (Ice Climbers) killed me with their final Smash lol.
I played another doubles match, this time with Snake. He was so much fun, I could feel the power on every hit! F-Smash was kinda useless though, so damn slow, f-tilt was the way to go always. But down-b shenanigans were awesome, and his down throw was great for my partner to punish. Really enjoyed him.
On Sunday played a couple more matches. Tried Pokémon trainer (just to play Squirtle lol) and he was great! Really fast, and there were lots of moves that felt different from Brawl. Sadly I didn't enjoy Ivysaur at all, I got killed due to his lackluster recovery. Couldn't care less about Charizard so I didn't use him hahahaha.
Next I tried Ridley! He didn't feel like a heavy weight at all, and that side-b is so damn satisfying. I got comboed a lot, but he was powerful enough to fight back easily, specially in the air I felt. Sadly down B seems useless in 4 player Smash, too much nonsense to try it lol.
The following match I used Ice Climbers. I... didn't like them. Nana feels rather useless now, and they got separated stupidly easy. Grabs now are nearly useless due to Nana just taunting when you grab lol. Don't think I'll use them in the final game.
And one thing I thought I wouldn't ever do, I picked Zelda next game because she's so damn CUTE! And she also feels so much better compared to her other iterations (not saying much since she's one of my least favourite characters to play as). Din's fire felt actually useful now! Really fast, and didn't leave her on free fall state! New jab is awesome, and the new phantom was also rather interesting. Very pleasantly surprised with her.
My last Smash game was with none other than the blue blur himself, Sonic the hedgehog. He's still stupid good, so damn fast both in the air and in the ground, and his aerials feel better than ever. That match had a funny moment when I picked a slow-time clock, so I was going so fast hitting everyone while they just scrambled trying to avoid me hahaha.
Overall I think it's definitely an improvement over Smash 4, at least on the way it feels, so much smoother and fast. My biggest issue with the game was the 4 player madness. I'm not the kind of guy going everywhere "NO ITEMS FOX ONLY FINAL DESTINATION", I do enjoy some casual games every now and then. However this Smash seemed that it had way too much. It's not good when in all of the games I had to ask "Where the hell am I" due to all the items and explosions on screen. That's why the 1 on 1 match I played was the most enjoyable because it was more manageable. Of course when I get the game I'm sure I will be able to turn the item drop rate, so this is a non-issue, but it's frustrating that the experience could have been better if they toned down the items.
The Nintendo Staff was rather fun too. I had some cool moments talking with them, asking for clues for potential newcomers (I even got to play with two of them, and I bodied them lol).
That's my Smash Ultimate experience! Now that I'm finally back I should be decently available here now, since I've missed the last 30 pages or so. As I said before, I'll post my thoughts on the whole event later, because it might end up being rather long.
