I recently check three videos that were two weeks ago... from Youtubers Arlo, Indie Jacob and Nintendo Beyond (Previously called Bitblock) about ports... not just Wii U ports by the way.
Arlo and Indie Jacob are pro-ports, whereas Nintendo Beyond's Josh made an hour live stream video making commentaries on Arlo's video (In reality it's only a half of the total stream though)...
I personally think Arlo and Jacob's videos are way more convincing than Josh's video since his videos was a live stream, many of his points are weak and self-centered. I understand that Josh has a very notorious attitude, but I still bared that a bit and watch it... and let me tell ya, it wasn't very good even for a live stream.
And the like/dislike ratio on each videos literally said it all....
Here are just some of his arguments... and my minor response (disclaimer, due to the length of the video, I didn't watch all of it, but I did my best to watch all of the parts where he made commentaries on the video):
- why so many Nintendo fans are demanding for ports nowadays? We should get new games!
It seems that Josh clearly forgot many things...
1. We are getting ports of "Great" games rather than crappy ones
2. Many ports are selling better on the Switch
3. (This is the most important one), Switch isn't backwards compatible (I know he mentions about why don't Nintendo just release Virtual Console, but in my opinion that's a whole other issue to talk about and Virtual Console technically offers old games rather than recent ones)
- Josh is half guessing that Nintendo intentionally put ports to fill up gaps
I understand where he is coming from, but Josh (and like many others) forget about Indie games. Despite they aren't console sellers, they did a great job on filling those gaps, especially in November.
- why don't those 5 developers go making new games instead of making ports?
Now clearly shows had delusional Josh's arguments can be, just which is more efficient and possible? Making ports of course!
- Breath of the Wild was probably delayed because of those ports...
WRONG. The most likely reason why it got delayed is because it got ported to Switch (was known NX). That said, first delay (Was suppose to be release in 2015 but delayed to in 2016)... probably... second delay (Moved to 2017 for NX), it's nuff said.
Another proof to sort of counter this argument was obviously Xenoblade 2... it was confirmed that Xenoblade 2 was made only by 40 people from Monlithsoft, rest went to help make Breath of the Wild, nevertheless those 40 people from Monotlithsoft didn't just straight up port their old games but still insist on making a new Xenoblade title.... and even release it in 2017! Sure it might have a better polish if it was delayed, but from this story it clearly somewhat debunks Josh's assumption.
- When I bought a system I expect to get new games, not just ports...
*Instant face palm*... If that's really the reason he bought consoles... then yeah... I agreed that most people says about Josh... he's a jerk...
Normal human beings (Or gamers at least) will buy a certain video game console is because there's one or more games that appeals you, regardless of it being a new game or just a port,. I personally bought Switch but not at launch is because there's Xenoblade 2 and many games I want to buy and play... and I also want to play Splatoon 2 while waiting for that game, and it turns out my Switch purchase was a wait. I NEVER buy consoles because I expect new games or any games that isn't announced yet.
- Those Wii U ports felt like Nintendo is giving those Wii U owners a *that* finger....
Again understandable, but that being said, Switch isn't the Wii U "feature wise"... Switch literally what the Wii U was supposed to be... so those who own Wii U games and they want to play those games on the go and with more content can be a worth of purchase. I know this isn't suitable for everyone but you get what I meant.
I mean, my brothers already bought MK8 on the Wii U, but we've had a lot of fun when I got MK8 Deluxe on my Switch since it has more features and you can play it anywhere.
Basically... that's all I have for now since his other arguments were just self... or should I say... Wii U centered?
Edit: Oh yeah, he also sort of mentions a lot that he bought those Wii U games because he supports Nintendo... that's one of a Wii U centered argument... and also a pity one... everyone has their own will to buy games he accuse those people who says they are Nintendo fans not buying Nintendo console (Especially the Wii U...) is a bit of a fanboyism... I personally a huge Nintendo fan and I had considered to buy Wii U for years... but the reason why I didn't buy them is because I never like home consoles, I already have 3DS, and last but not least... the games on Wii U never make me want to buy the system. And again, it's a person's own will to buy games, Nintendo is not pointing a gun at you to buy their games or port games, it literally a "Take it or leave it" situation.
I think he would get less dislike backlash if he specifically mentions he dislikes having Wii U ports... but then again that Youtube thumbnail somewhat shows that so...
Just what do you guys think about ports and especially Wii U ports? I know we have discussed a bit about Switch getting more Wii U ports recently... o be honest though, I was indeed disappointed that they release ports of Hyrule Warriors and DKC Tropical Freeze. Don't get me wrong though, they are great games and I am not bothered by Wii U ports, they just don't get me interested that's why.
I am excited for ports such as Bayonetta 1&2, The World Ends With You Final Remix (even though this a basically a remaster), and Ys VIII
I also hope they port Smash4 and Xenoblade X...just wishful thinking...
