Is this even considered spoiler anymore if they show them in the trailers? Whatever
MONADO BOYS!!!! I have to buy the season pass, I need to use Shulk in this game. Also regular Fiora and not Mecha-Fiora? I mean, they've shown that form way too many times, it's not like it is a surprise any longer. Shulk's art does look a bit weird lol.
I feel like people look at Assists the wrong way. I always felt that if they weren't Assist Trophies, they wouldn't be in the game at all(except as a trophy and whatnot). But they want to acknowledge their popularity or history and they find a way for what this character can do even if they aren't playable. Like they're saying, "We may have not wanted this character to be playable, but we can still show them in the game and show how awesome they are." And even if Bomberman isn't playable, he has alot of detail and looks very cool and awesome. And I appreciate that they made him look awesome, even if he's not playable.
I get it, but you can't expect me to stay content with simply an assist trophy when the possibility of having a full character gets shafted when they announce them. Do I appreciate the fact that they are popular enough to at least appear in the game? Definitely. Does it hurt less knowing that they doesn't get the big reward, the thing we want the most, the playable status? Not one bit. As you said, Bomberman details are awesome, all the animations, the double jumping, he looks damn cool. What do I see though? The missed opportunity of a great fighter. It's the obvious thing people look of the assists, since we know that people with trophies can actually get in the game (Mewtwo and Lucas did it), but no assists have gotten playable the same time they have been assists, that's why we're so eager for Assist upgrades.
And let's be real for a second, we can't compare the representation of a full character with anything else. Sure, it's cool to have lot's of items and stages from a franchise, but the characters are the big prize. I'm still going to see all assists trophies as deconfirmations of characters sadly.
Was looking through some Reddit Smash reactions and I saw someone mention about the Assist Trophy characters who can get grabbed and attacked.
"Killable Assist Trophies would make for some superb enemy NPCs in Adventure Mode/Subspace Emissary II, just saying."
That is intriguing. Damagable Assist Trophys that you can KO would make for some interesting Event Mode matches or NPC Battles in a Adventure Mode or whatnot. Especially as we do have Assist Trophies that also served as enemies in Subspace and Smash Run, like Hammer Bro.
