Geoff addresses the elephant in the room
For me, it's a case-by-case thing. Watching a JonTron video for me would be impossible now because I'd have to look at the face of someone I find despicable while I'd hopefully never have to look at a director's face when watching their movie or show.
> examines the title and video thumbnail
> Kenshin is in the thumbnail

Oh god, I know exactly what I'm going to expect in this video.

> watches the entire video to end

It really broke my heart finding out what happened to Nobuhiro Watsuki and made me lost complete respect for him, but it won't stop me from being a fan of his work. Watsuki is absolutely unforgivable no argument there, but Rurouni Kenshin has been immensely influential and taught me a lot of important life lessons. Nah I won't stop being a fan. I've watched every episode, OVA remake and live films of the adaptation of the anime and I will not forget the memories and story of one of my anime heroes.

It's going to be difficult to go back to my teenagehood franchise. Especially because I still haven't watched the Reflection OVA; the sequel that brings an end to the whole story.

You know, a lot of people seem to think that humans are worse than every other animal out there. I think that's a pretty wildly pessimistic and self-loathing outlook. For two reasons, really.

One, every horrible thing humans do that doesn't require opposable thumbs is done by animals too. Half of them just by dolphins. Including stuff that actively has to be thought through. Especially stuff that has to be actively thought through. Seriously, don't look up dolphins. Heck, even if we cause a freaking extinction event, THAT's already been done before. Ever think about why we breathe oxygen?

And two, nearly every human can agree that no matter what else, killing another person's children just so you can steal their wife and force her to have kids with you instead is freaking monstrous.

So feel better about yourselves, humanity. Not egotistical, there's plenty of things to still take us down a few dozen pegs, but the self-loathing isn't a good look.

This has been Coricus' weird feel good post of the day, because they saw yet another thing about animals murdering babies over mating competition.
Most of the things that animals do is driven by survival instinct...A lot of what humans do, in this day and age isn't...a lot of us are living within our own metaphorical bubble safe from the harshness of the wilderness...ignorant to the dangers outside of our own sanctuary built by civilization...

Then we decide to make things go extinct because we think they may look nice on our walls...that's pretty frikkin terrible if you ask me...

One interesting thing in the comments of that video was that the less walls between the author and the reader, the less respect/love the work often gets.

I find that a thought provoking statement.

YouTube comments' summaries are always like this: "provoking". Little cry babies trolling everywhere thinking they are cool. NOT IN MY BOOK!

Dolphins gang **** their females and use live animals as volleyballs.

Nice survival instinct there, Mr. Bottlenose.

I guarantee you the only difference between us and them is that they're stuck with flippers. . .And kill each other's babies for mating competition.

Further, I'd assume that a lot of our survival instinct is running pretty strong and pitches in a lot more with our awfulness than anyone gives it credit for. That's not some kind of excuse to indulge in it, that's just an observation. We think we're worse than animals because we think we're better than animals. . .but really we're just animals. Animals that wear clothes and have ego issues, but still animals. And just because that survival instinct is more vestigial than our appendix doesn't mean it isn't getting massively in the way of things.

The fact that they do that makes me already hate the Dolphin gang a lot. I heard all Football fandoms are bad, it is just people complain about them less because they are too popular.

:4gaw:

I mean, that had nothing to do with football.

But I guess football teams are pretty notorious for doing that too.

Can someone encourage me on my social skills again? Last time I tried I was on a lunch table by myself when someone took my seat. I was not in trouble if you are curious.

Oh, my apologies.
Still, I hate the Dolphin gang for that.

Next time someone does that you gotta assert yourself by kicking them in the crotch and teabagging them like you're a 9 year old on Xbox Live playing Halo.

EDIT: Lmao what, the Halo wikia literally has an article on teabagging.

What I really like is that the link is labelled "Corpse Humping."

As though the concept of Teabagging wasn't absurd enough without dryly summing it up in the most literal way possible.

I feel like it went something like this:

Guy 1: I don't know, man. Teabagging sounds too crass... This is a serious wiki.
Guy 2: "Corpse Humping."
Guy 1: Genius.

Now you are trying to get me suspended? First Mythra and now you? I have muscular legs ( no, not thick or flabby ) so my kicks would hurt a lot.

They do have to get every aspect of Halo in there, including teabagging. :p

We are by nature a very destructive species with our wars and pollution, as well as doing things for pleasure on a destructive level, such as setting off nuclear bombs out of curiosity what will happen...Plus people still do what those dolphins do...as bad as it sounds it happens...

For the record, I don't disagree that we are no better or worse than animals...just explaining why people would think that way...

Well yeah.

It was (is?) pretty common to the point where Bungie made the corpses react to teabagging.

And I'm just trying to point out a counterpoint to that kind of perspective.

The only reason we've never seen an animal set off a nuclear bomb out of curiosity is because an animal has never had the opposable thumbs to build one. I feel like we can give animals more credit for their intelligence and less credit for their supposed purity by ignorance. Humans seem to have a desire to feel like they're more unique than they actually are, whether to feed their arrogance or in the case of the viewpoint I'm arguing against fuel their guilt complex. And considering humans are already pretty unique, that kinda speaks to humanity being more notable in the animal kingdom for having self esteem issues than for doing horrific things out of territorial behavior, curiosity, or lack of interest in cleaning up after themselves.

Humans are messed up. We need to give animals more respect and more recognition for their intelligence and helpfulness to the world.

I mean look how horrible our food system is in the United States of America, and the fact that forests are still being mass destroyed.

We obviously need to work on a ton of things.

I'm just saying that part of acknowledging animal's intelligence is acknowledging that they often actually do really darn similar things to us. . .in some cases things that we beat ourselves up over by acting like animals don't do them. The idea that animals are pure runs counter to the goal of actually admitting how smart they are, even if it makes the truth less sugary.

And we have to give ourselves at least some credit for at least some of our species trying to clean back up the mess it's making. IMO humanity has been getting exponentially better over the course of civilization. We wiped out a ton of species before we even had enough technology to scapegoat. Now we're trying to preserve what's left and make last ditch cloning efforts if we trip ourselves up. Heck, we're trying to bring back things we already wiped out.

If humans are bad because we're the only species to make such a big mess, then what other species has the conscience to try to make amends when they make theirs?

But what can we do? I mean, many think that by being "Friendly" to the Ecosystems and whatnot, everything we have caused over the centuries to screw nature up is going to be resolved in an instant or a few years, when it will take eons to do so. xD I still remember the "A World Without Humans" documentary I saw a long time ago.

I know. The only reason why humans still cut trees is because some areas which are more developing need the wood and do not have time to grow the trees. If the developing countries found better money opportunities than trees would be cut down less probably. A world without humans would be filled with trees and forests.

Uh, maybe just...err...talk? I mean, looking for people with similar ideas and/or tastes definitely something. But, in what else you want to improve when it comes to your "social skills"? I'm not an expert, but I can definitely say this site helped quite a lot as time went by and got to know pretty cool people and whatnot.

I tried after I did my work, but my conversations were very short. This site did indeed help me with that problem, users like Swamp were there to help me correct my problem

I am just one of those people who would read a book ( if I have no work left ) or do their homework ( In my school, homework is allowed to be done during breaks like lunch ) instead of chatter with my friends during a break.

Hm, I mean, I was like that somewhat when I was in Primary school, I preferred to be alone and focussing on things like that rather than chit chatting with friends. But as time went by, I got to know the people that would get a pretty fun conversation out of me, mostly with my friends from Secondary school ( I think its called Middle school?) because we things in common, I joined this site when I was almost starting Preparatory (High school if I am not mistaking), pretty good friends too IRL, but at a lesser extent they had common with me, lastly, at University, it was even less and I was fed up of seeing my classmates at some point, yet again, I wanted to be alone most of the time. After five years of not seeing my friends from Middle school, we had a meeting, and it was great seeing what made us friends in the first place and have these long talks.

What I'm trying to point out is, maybe you just need to give it time, you are just 14, right? There's a lot to go through and you will surely get the hang out of it if you want that the most, you already took a good step by entering a discussion forum (Way sooner than I did, that's for sure). Don't pressure yourself over it too much.

*Sigh* I was trying to add $90 to the Wii Shop Channel but found out the Wii U is under maintenance today...
Don't you mean the eshop? Wii U doesn't have the Wii Shop :p

Unless this is where I find out the Wii U has a channel that functions as the Wii shop, just on the Wii

Don't be so over bearing man :troll:

Also don't know if you guys saw the supposed Pokemon Generation leak, around the start of Feb, so if its been disproven already, never mind it. But I wanted to rant on something that annoys me. Basically in the leak it said Game Freak is changing the Battle System to a more Action RPG based one, instead of a Turn-based RPG one.

And I just have to say, this is a stupid idea, and I don't like how some people liked the idea. Here's my main point, I don't like how some companies change a game series genre for no reason. And I had thought we'd moved away from the whole let's change this game series genre to a different one, from the 7th Generation, you know with how so many game series that originally weren't First-person shooters, suddenly became one, or how Banjo Nuts And Bolts wasn't a collectation 3D platformer, now don't get me wrong, I will defend Nuts and Bolts as a game that isn't bad, doesn't mean I won't criticises moronic decision to take a game series away from its base concept, and not utilise it.

Maybe you are right, I should not be too worried about making friends now. It will eventually happen one way or another. I had a best friend when I was younger and then we never visited each other again. If there is one thing I love doing, it is Smash 4ing with my friends and beating them and impressing them. I also like someone who cares about education a lot like me, so that could be a pair. I think I just need to be patient and to wait it out. :)

I highly doubt that Gamefreak would do this, as they know most people are attached to the turn-based. That is what makes it Pokemon and I am sure Gamefreak will keep it for as long as it lives. I think the idea is not good as well, could be some false leak.

:) Yeah, it will definitely happen, have faith! You will find people you would be glad to have as friends, and will get to know better.

I mean, seeing certain people that are your friends is not easy, like I said before, it took me 5 years to finally see my old friends, even though I had them in things like facebook. Something always was in the way for me to see them, and that included my own attitude after I was just...tired, for some reason, but one day, I talked to one via chat and it felt like FOREVER, but we were glad we could revive the good times. xD Oh yeah, I may not play Smash, but getting the chance to play with them is GREAT! I don't even hesitate about that, and I feel as if I have drank caffeine when we began to beat each other up in that game. :D Yeah, take it easy!

:V Ok, gotta vanish!

How fortunate! What is your favorite rare blade so far? I want to play XC1 ( I have it ), but I am too lazy to do so. Instead I reside here.

Further, I'd assume that a lot of our survival instinct is running pretty strong and pitches in a lot more with our awfulness than anyone gives it credit for.
I'd argue the same, but I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it vestigal.

I'm talking a bit out my ass here (and still working on the caffeine) but I'd think that while the environment's shifted, and the needs for survival are thus different, but the need to survive, which includes a legacy, is itself the primary impetus for all kinds of things both good and bad.

I'm actually genuinely sorry I don't have a more reasoned argument; yours strikes me as thought through enough that I feel it deserves more than a vague and unsupported semi-counterpoint. Once I've gotten my head together I'll come up with something.

Anyone got any better ways to improve my social skills besides crouch-kicking and peeing?
Put yourself in situations where you must talk to people. Then proceed to talk to people.

All social skills are interactions with other people, and the only surefire way to improve on that is to do it.

My own example would be where I did sales jobs door-to-door. I was a terrible salesman, don't get me wrong, but the forced interaction jacked up my social skills to at least passable.

To succeed or starve is kind of an extreme case, but in your case something like a club or even a sport should serve the same purpose. As others have noted, your SB interactions also help, but I would advise that you don't necessarily want to conflate your online social skills and your in-person social skills too strongly - just ask how many people here have different degrees of social skills IRL.

Important sidenote: you're gonna fail. A lot, and repeatedly. Now this is gonna sound real counterproductive, especially coming from a goal-based environment like school, but trust me - that's actually something to look forward to, not to be afraid of.

Extra Credits actually explored this in the sense of video games and creative endeavors. I'd argue it applies to any other skill equally well - including social skills - so go have a look at that vid.

Oh, sure they'll make a ****ing Kitty Pryde movie, but not a Storm or Nightcrawler one. That's dumb.

Nintendo's Japanese Youtube page uploaded a new trailer for Kirby Star Allies. It's an animated one:

Cute stuff. Looks like it'd make a fitting pre-title opening for the game.
