Personally I really liked most of Fates' characters.

I don't know if I'm extremely forgiving or I have low expectations.
You're not the only one. I personally like a good number of characters from Fates as well.

I actually liked most of the Birthright cast, with my favorite characters from that route including Takumi, Shiro, Kaden, Oboro, Hinata, Saizo, Kagero, Hinoka, Azama, Setsuna, and Sakura come to mind. For Conquest, I also had a number of characters I liked there such as Support!Xander, Laslow, Niles, Arthur, Benny, Charlotte, and Ignatius.

Imagine if that also spread out to Birthright and Conquest and if you had Subaki face Selena in Birthright or vice-versa in Conquest, Selena would comment to him about him being the "perfect" Pegasus Knight. Silas tried to comment to Xander alongside Corrin in Chapter 12 Birthright. How about if Silas also had a fight conversation with him in that chapter? Effie and Hana in Conquest Chapter 22? Hinoka to Camilla in Chapter 13 Birthright? Takumi to Leo in Chapter 18 Birthright? Beruka to Oboro in Conquest? It's surprising how Kaze didn't have a chat with the one ninja guy like Saizo did.
I think the reason why Kaze doesn't have a boss conversation with Kotaro compared to his brother is because Kaze does not seem to be as affected by his father's death as much as Saizo did. Kaze mentions in his A-support with his brother that only Saizo continued to seek revenge against his father's death, whereas everyone from Igasato including Kaze gave up hope.

But yeah, I agree that there were plenty of missed opportunities for special boss dialogues in Fates. I remember anticipating a in-battle dialogue between Silas and Xander in Birthright Chapter 12, especially after Xander straight up silences and ignores Silas's plea with the statement, "Your words mean nothing, traitor!" I remember reacting with "Oh snap" and wanting to see how Silas would take it should he fight Xander... but then it turned out he had no special dialogue.

Heck, I think Silas could've had dialogue with all of the Nohrian royals in Birthright just like how Azura has special in-battle dialogue with all the Hoshidan royals in Conquest. Camilla and Silas's supports imply Silas has known her since he was a child, so I'm guessing Silas also knew each of the Nohrian royals for a long time as well. If Silas had dialogue with all of the Nohrian royals in Birthright, I think that would've helped him feel more relevant to the plot.

And with the others, it really is quite odd that Hinoka didn't have any battle dialogue with Camilla in Birthright Chapter 13 but the other way around existed in Conquest Chapter 11. A Takumi and Leo exchange during the battle in Birthright Chapter 18 would've been great as well, especially after the fierce exchange the two engaged in before Leo used his magic to poison the swamp. The Beruka and Oboro conversation was a missed opportunity as well, though I'd say it could've also fit in Birthright as well.

Awakening also did them poorly(Chrom, Robin and Say'ri were the only ones who had them, hell, not even Lucina had any afaik)
Lucina did have some in-game boss dialogue with Validar in Chapter 23 and Grima during the Endgame.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You know, with all this discussion about missed opportunity for certain in-battle dialogues in Fates, I'd thought I'd share a few in-battle dialogues in Fates I came up with.

Here's my idea how the Hinoka vs Camilla battle conversation would've looked like in Birthright Chapter 13:

Camilla: You... You are the object of my every scorn.

Hinoka: And why is that?

Camilla: You stole my precious Corrin from me! He/she was my brother/sister, and you took him/her away. You even have the nerve to proclaim he/she is your "rightful" sibling!

Hinoka: EXCUSE ME?! You and your father are the ones that stole Corrin from ME! Corrin is not your brother/sister. He/she was born in Hoshido and therefore belongs to US. Can't you see it's you and your family that's at fault here?

Camilla: ...My, my, you have the same angry expression that Corrin has. Is this your way of convincing me that you really are related to Corrin? I don't care, because I'm going to cut every inch of your face once I defeat you so that there is zero proof you are "related" to Corrin.

Hinoka: I can't believe it. You are even more insane than I thought when you threatened to kill Corrin.

Camilla: You can insult me all night long, but that doesn't change the fact you are about to die.

Hinoka: We'll see about that. I have trained my entire life to bring Corrin back. Now that Corrin has finally returned to our side for good, I will make sure he/she will never fall into your hands again. If I die fighting to protect my brother/sister, so be it!

Another battle conversation idea I came up with: Silas vs Xander in Birthright Chapter 12

Xander: And here you are, you traitorous scum.

Silas: ... *Silas reacts with his saddened facial expression*

Xander: You were sent to Fort Jinya to seize it, but you failed. Then, rather than returning home when you had the chance, you chose to betray Nohr and join forces with Corrin.

Silas: Milord, you know well what King Garon would have done to me if I returned. Moreover, I believe Corrin knows the true path to peace, and it is thanks to him/her I have realized that King Garon is a madman and the true instigator of this war. He must be stopped!

Xander: You DARE question my father?

Silas: I am only speaking the truth!

Xander: It seems that even you have been brainwashed by Corrin and the Hoshidans.

Silas: Milord, are you blind to the truth? Are you not aware of what Garon did in the Hoshidan capital? He wanted the conflict to escalate into the full-blown war it is now. He doesn't care about Nohr's future. All he wants is destruction and nothing else.

Xander: So now you question my father AND me? That settles it then. Nohr has zero tolerance for traitors. This very theatre will be the location of your execution for all to see. Your death will serve as a reminder to all those that have the audacity to betray Nohr!

What does he even hope to achieve with Russia? They're even supporting different sides in the whole Syria thing

And how cute, you think he isn't gonna get impeached before that

I wanted to avoid that but I couldn't find a better word

That's just the thing. If it were any of the previous 44 presidents, he'd have been out of office several scandals ago. So long as the right controls basically the entire congress, he'll remain until 2020 at least, when he goes up for reelection...or 2018, when hopefully the left takes control back in congress.

everyone knows that your tastes are 100% definitive
I'm sensing sass. And if that's what you're thinking I'm saying, it's not. Nearly every WRPG is in the Top 50, most of the JRPG's are placed behind those. And yes, I absolutely do think that even Oblivion and Morrowind was better than Skyrim.

I visited my bro's house, we talked about some Basketball (**** the Warriors) and I grabbed a ball to play, then I realized I could bounce it and grab it perfectly (I always struggle with that) I was like: "Cool, I finally impoved" before my nephew told me it was a junior sized ball, he then gave me a standard sized ball and yeah, it felt huge on my hands. Then I compared hand sizes with him and my bro... and yep, my hands are pretty smol.

My bro apparently had small hands too, but more than 25 years of playing Basketball kinda made them bigger and wider.

Guess I'll follow that path, but for now Im the "uncle with tiny girl hands".

I think the Camilla and Hinoka one is a bit too long and Xander sounds way too brutal at that last one but I liked them.
I'll try one
Hans: Well well, the old man is back for a second round!

Gunter: Oh my, Garon has certainly lowered his standards for his personal lapdogs, I wish I could be angry but I believe my trip was actually... "enlightening".

Hans: Ha ha ha! And who here goes around listening to a kid? I can't wait to see his/her face when I crush that skull of yours! Ha ha ha ha ha!

Gunter: Maybe you'd be able to do that before, but I have been granted new power. Heh heh, I wonder if he'll have mercy on you...

Just some musings of a Metroid fan...

Assuming a Metroid game gets announced/revealed with a released date/window in mind...I'm just curious how Nintendo handles the marketing behind the game...

One thing I've noticed with regards to Nintendo, is that the marketing behind their Metroid games has always been more on the weak side, with Prime 3 being the exception (mainly because of the buzz behind the Wii and it's motion controls at the time and how strong the marketing on the system was in general)...Federation Force had very little in terms of marketing outside of e3 and the Spring direct, which certainly didn't help it's already crappy reputation...of course it's understandable why given how the fanbase literally **** on anything Federation Force related anyways...

I also hope that Nintendo doesn't spoil the crap out of the game...Only four Metroid games I've played through blind and the last time I played through a Metroid game blind that I thoroughly enjoyed was Prime 2...(Although Federation Force was fun for what it was, it was still a big disappointment otherwise)...It would be nice to have that experience again where I manage to play through a Metroid game unspoiled and not be disappointed after finishing the game...(maybe I'm asking for too much but still)

All of this talk of Elder Scrolls reminded me of one of my favourite animated videos on YouTube growing up, even though I had little interest in the game itself.

Slightly NSFW-ish image at the very end for a split second but eeeehhh I saw this crap when I was like 12 and kids look at way worse these days anyway. :p

Considering that Xander's character throughout Birthright is basically, "Corrin, you are a traitor! You will DIE!", and he disregards Silas's plea, I wouldn't be surprised he would threaten death onto Silas.

That Gunter vs Hans conversation was great! Loved the Revelation foreshadowing and the way Gunter uses "enlightening."

On a different note, I just remembered another battle conversation that crossed my mind. Takumi vs Leo in Birthright Chapter 18.

Seriously, after Takumi called Leo "a greedy-little bookworm" and Leo called Takumi "a coward who shoots arrows from afar," they really should had some battle dialogue with each other that same map.

Leo: Well, well, I didn't think you would survive my onslaught of Faceless and poisonous swamps.

Takumi: Heh, you thought I am a coward who can only attack from afar. Well, you're wrong! Those Faceless were nothing! I can even shoot an arrow up-close if I need to, just like the situation I'm in right now.

Leo: And you called me a greedy-little bookworm. I'll have you know I've learned plenty of war strategies from all the books I've read, so I already know how I can defeat you. You might as well just give up now.

Takumi: Talk all you want, but I can ascertain it is you who will lose this battle. I've got this in the bag. Do your worst!

That's cause he is. Outside of the Internet, most people don't even know Morrowind or Oblivion exists, but they know Skyrim does; the 'V' in Elder Scrolls is just to look cool
I'm actually a Morrowind elitist. So my say is divine, and if you dare question me again, then by my ancestors, I'll burn you to ash.

*dunmer blood intensifies*

Joking, but seriously, on the point of which one is better, I was referring to the audience that's actually played the three games. The majority (of the minority) favor the previous games over Skyrim.

Skyrim is the fat iconic cow of TES. That's likely not going to change until TES 6 comes out. That's just a fact. Oblivion and Morrowind are unfortunately the great yet forgotten titles of the series (besides the games before). And there are few true TES fans as a result.

And I mean that. If you've only played Skyrim- you are NOT a TES fan. :4mario:

...

Wait... By Talos, we're having a TES discussion. :D

EDIT: THAT GIF WAS DIVINE.

Question.

What do you guys tend to like in a YouTube channel that focuses on analysing/critiquing fictional media (games, anime, TV shows, movies, and the things within them like their characters, or mechanics in the case of games)?

I don't want to use the term "review" because that's not what I have in mind exactly.

Comparable examples would include channels like Ghast Station and his Support Science series, pretty much anything made by Best Guy Ever that isn't a blatant ****post video, TotalBiscuit and his PC Port Report series, or A+ Start's Low Poly series.

Do you tend to prefer something a bit more deadpan and focused purely on the analytical side with light and subtle humour on occasion with not a lot of crazy edits, or do you prefer something that's a bit more spontaneous with a lot of "editing humour" while still retaining an analytical angle?

Totally asking for a friend and not because I'm thinking about making a proper YouTube channel.
Personally I prefer something that's informative, yet still has personality to it. For example, something like Did You Know Gaming doesn't have jokes in their videos, but the different hosts they have still fill it with personality.

Seeing how Fallout 4 turned out, I have little hope TES6 will turn out better than Skyrim least of all as well as 3 or 4. I've yet to play ESO though so I can't really have an opinion on it or it's expansions. Maybe it's a return to form? I dunno, I'm just kinda sick of getting dragged around by being a fan of Bethesda. Good thing we have games like DOOM and Prey that are what they say they are or else I'd be all against Bethesda right now. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY New Vegas 2 is a thing so Obsidian can show them how to make an actual RPG.

Edit: Oblivion is still my favorite even though I do think Morrowind is arguable better.

Really, this is one of many much better ideas for Fates's plot
It almost seems like the three games went with the first draft and were literally written by a single person without any inout on it.
I like your idea a lot though, because it'd mean cutting either the Kitsune map or the wind tribe one, and, frankly, I'd miss Tharja more than any of those two maps

Careful what you wish for....
Did you not think ahead? Maybe there is a reason there is no Kitsune map anymore?
Did it not come to mind that the leader that Leo was pressured to kill....:demon:
was maybe Rally Master of Arms Kaden? After all, what if the place that was taken by Nohr, was a place important to the Kitsune?

To have no chats between the Hoshidan characters and Nohrian characters in Birthright and Conquest is definitely a missed opportunity. Selena and Subaki. Hinata and Odin. Selena and Setsuna. Oboro and Beruka. Maybe Kaden and Keaton? Heck, how about Saizo and Beruka? Their localised C-support could probably fit a battle between them more than as a Support.

We're definitely talking alot about the main characters themselves. How about the unique Boss characters? Like Haitaka, Candace, Nichol, Zhara, etc? Considering Haitaka was the one who brought Azura and considering Corrin has family in both kingdoms, why not a conversation with each of them? Zhara was apparently a renowned swordsman. Maybe a conversation with one of the Nohrians who might recognise him? Ryoma/Shiro, Saizo and Kaden/Selkie with Tarba, Funke and Daichi respectively? Leo and Odin with Gazak and Senno?

Injustice 2 is some good stuff.

Also hot take on that RPG list Golden Sun doesn't deserve to be on there.

That moment when you check to see the art to make sure that the Lloyd coming out is Lloyd from FE7 when you remember that there actually is another Lloyd in Fire Emblem.
Luckily, the Lloyd that is coming out for FEHeroes is FE7 Lloyd and not this Lloyd.

I am shocked, offended, flabbergasted and appalled.
Don't forget stunned, dismayed, aghast, and upset.

One of these days there's gonna be shenanigans with lighthouses, and then who's gonna help us? Not Robertman2, that's for sure. :4megaman:

Just played a game of LoL. It lasted about half an hour, and this is the stuff i've missed.

Tense match all the way to the end, where we only won from one or two good picks, and the last fight going our way (I would say I ddid some great stuff there myself). Super close match and I haven't had this much fun with a game in a while.

I feel like SotN is more of an action game than RPG. I wouldn't classify it as one. And Pokemon Red and Blue was only there for nostalgia, Fire Red and Leaf green would make more sense.

Also, could have used on of the Battle Network games, but at least Sonic Chronicles wasn't on there.

I'm excited for the Sonic Forces news tomorrow, but I'll keep my expectations in check.

The Classic Sonic footage left me pretty underwhelmed, hopefully this can reignite some excitement.

Hadouken FPS mode is a flop, huh?

Was actually wondering why the game was so expensive for what it was but never took that into consideration the extra development costs for that...There's also the updated sprites as well...

Never really thought much of that extra mode to begin with...Feels like one of those things you'll try once for five minutes then never touch again...

Aren't the updated sprites just taken from Super SFII: HD Remix? No extra cost there.
