The gameplay has it's flaws but it's still pretty damn fun especially as you level up.
Why I mainly hold this as one of my favourite Sonic games though, is for basically everything else. Soundtrack is godly, the graphics are fantastic and some of the best on the Wii, the story and character interactions are actually quite good (it's not too serious but not too "only for kids" either) with there being a lot of background intricacies in how it's told, and most of all, this game had the single best portrayal of Sonic's character in anything ever. Like if people ask me why Sonic is one of my favourite fictional characters, I point them to this game. It nails his personality and attitude from every angle.
This was also the last game Knuckles and Shadow were in before their characters got completely ruined (granted, I like Boom!Knuckles because he works for that universe, but last we saw of Knuckles in the main series, he was an idiot there too. Shadow has become completely unlikable since Free Riders, though).
Anyway I watched the video and:
-Arin spreading misinformation, saying that "this game is part of the Storybook series, which was only this game", as if it were some sort of mark against the game? Check.
-Arin calling Marza's distinctly excellent CGI animation for Sonic games and the game's watercolour comic book scenes "terrible and low budget"? Check.
-Arin saying the game is comparable to a Sonic fan fiction? Check.
-Arin doing this intentionally terrible impression of Sonic every two seconds and repeating everything he says while adding a "WUHOOO" at the end? Check.
-Arin playing incredibly poorly as soon as the gameplay starts and saying the game controls terribly, at first complaining that the game isn't fast enough, and then starts complaining that it's too fast and that he's gonna be sick? Check.
It's a Sonic playthrough alright.
