Current Team:
Azura: Level 25
Toucan Sam: Level 23
Puka: Level 23
Selkie: Level 23
I devoted the next Hau battle at Panuoli Town to leveling up Selkie so that it could catch up with the rest of the team. The battle wasn't too difficult. Hau still has two Pokemon, except this time, his starter Pokemon evolved.
I love the western theme going on in Panuoli Town, though I wish there were more buildings to walk into. The only one you can visit is a house filled with Magmar, one of which gives you a Quick Ball. Around the center of town, a girl riding a Taurus tells you that Taurus can kick up some hidden items, so I tried to use Taurus to do that... little did I know she was referring to her own Taurus and I had to use a different Pokemon to find those items.
Cut to the ranch part of town and I'm introduced to Stoutland, a.k.a. the Itemfinder of this game. Stoutland is alright for a Poke Ride Pokemon. It can move fast, though the sniffing for the hidden items can be annoying at times. Maybe its because I'm used to the generation 6 Item Finder. I guess I'll get used to it eventually.
So Cut to some battling later and I had my first battle with Hau. Wasn't too bad. Selkie actually handled Type: Null pretty well.
Several Team Skull grunts walk in after the battle, and they reveal Gladion isn't really a part of a Team Skull. Hmm, this is interesting.
Now we get to the Water Trial. Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Apparently, you get the Scald TM as you descend the hill, and you can the Charge Beam right before you enter Brooklet Hill. Let's just say that TM made Totem Wishiwashi pretty duable. Use a few Charge Beams and heal when Puka's HP was low and it was all good. It also helped that the Totem Wishiwashi used Soak on Puka, so that meant Water Gun wasn't hitting as hard as it normally would. I also got lucky with Totem Wishiwashi summoning a smaller one rather than an Alomomola. That ally Pokemon was taken out by Toucan Sam after Puka landed the kill on Totem Wishiwashi.
So now we get the Waterium Z, and we make our way down Route 6. Those same Skull Grunts from Melemele Island are trying to harm a Drifloon, and a woman named Hapu has come to stop them. Hapu is Mudsdale girl from the trailers, and she's pretty calm and mature. I already followed the story spoilers regarding who she is, so I'm curious to see if she'll appear in Ula Ula Island.
Anyway, the Grunts are dealt with pretty easily, and then I head back to HeaHea City to get a new polo shirt, then it was off to the Battle Royale.
Man, the Masked Royal tried to cover his identity as hard as he could, but it was blatantly obvious that it was still good ol' Professor Kukui: not only does the body frame give it away, but also his dialogue. Gladion was apparently there, and so was Hau, so you can guess who participated in this battle. The battle ended with myself, Gladion, and Mr.TotallyNotKukuiInAWrestlerOutfit surveying it at the end with Hau's Torracat going down pretty quickly thanks to Selkie's newly learned Rock Tomb.
After the battle, we get some great dialogue between Hau and Gladion.
Hau:
"Why did you even do the Battle Royale?"
Gladion:
"Because Null and I have to make it on our own. And I don't ever want to forget that."
*Gladion leaves*
Hau:
"...Wow. you're just a ray of sunshine, eh?"
Aw snap! Hau coming in with one air-horn dropping line. Gladion, you better have a burn heal!"
Hau continues,
"I think you'd have a lot more fun if you just let yourself have a good time with everybody else. You can do a lot more together, too."
So Gladion wants to train himself because he wants to make sure his bond with Type: Null deepens, but Hau brings up a good point about the importance of friendship when it comes to becoming stronger. I think this has the potential to be explored further into the game for some interesting plot development.
So there isn't much to do in Route 7, nor are there many trainers in Wela Volcano Park, so Kiawe's Trial comes about very quickly. Welp, time to test my luck against that Totem Salazzle. Good thing Azura has that Waterier Z equipped. I don't think this should be too hard.
