Here's the best argument about this thing: Is their race different than the source material? Like black Human Torch? That failed fantastically (heh) because the Storms were always biologically the same, suddenly changing that for no reason is dumb, like having a young actor play Roshi in DB Evolution. Shipping is a thing, but that's not why people want it to be canon. It's "hey, this game is already doing a much better job with representation, why not represent more groups." I remember reading a thread on Reddit about how excited a group of Mexican's were for Sombra and how she wasn't just some stereotype. I remember seeing the same for either Pharah or Ana.

Please don't make broad generalizations for things you have only a little knowledge about.

Scarlet Johnson seems like an unfitting choice to me even ignoring whether or not the main character is actually physically Japanese.

Though from what I've seen the older purple haired one seemed more so Japanese while the newer blue haired one seemed white, which is clearly the one they're imitating. I don't get the whole "Well, she has to be Japanese because everything else around her is Japanese" when from what I quickly googled search other characters are clearly at first glance white. I mean, is it really that hard for people to at least misinterpreting that?

I don't even know why I'm even arguing for a film I don't care about whatsoever and have no interest in, but I guess the reason why I joined in is because I don't get why people get so upset about racially ambiguous characters to be confused anyway, especially when the character is a robot anyway. I mean, a Japanese actor would've been better and would've had no controversy. But I still don't think that them being fine with it is not as unjustified as people make it out to be.

TBH, the people who want characters for shipping gay for shipping are more logical than the people that want characters gay just so "lolz look dis character iz ghey, iz diverse"". At least then making the character gay actually has a purpose.

That explains why he is different from the other Robot Masters on a functional level. You know, the ones that are reprogrammed to be evil and Mega Man has to destroy to stop their rampage. Still some interesting trivia from one of the older creators.

To be fair, we are getting a new Mega Man game. But it's one to advertise the upcoming Man of Action TV show (which I'll admit I have low expectations on after knowing he's a high school student). Just hope this isn't another Ghostly Adventures situation.

I prefer when portrayals stay true to the character. So, I'd prefer if Motoko was played by an actress of Asian heritage. I'd prefer it Human Torch had been played by a white actor. I'd prefer if The Ancient One was played by an Asian male.

But it's not going to ruin the movie for me. It's just a preference. As a person of mixed race, it doesn't bother me. Characters can be changed and still be good characters. I understand why Scarlett Johanssen (sp?) was chosen. It wasn't due to inherent racism, it was due to the film's bottom dollar. She's much more marketable than any Asian actress. It always comes back to money, which is unfortunate, but... preferable to racism. That said, it's also not helping change the trend that would one day allow for parts like this to be played by actors of ethnicity more faithful to the material.

It really only matters when the plot is contingent on the race of the character. Like, it'd make no sense to cast a white guy as Othello. Unless you're going to change the race of all the other characters.

Judging by how I didn't see what this quoted, I believe you're arguing with someone who CAN'T believe they aren't right and therefore unfit for debate, not just because of my experiences, but one of the most civil people I've met on this site said that too. Don't bother arguing with him

No it isn't.

But I feel changing who a character is just to make them a member of a minority is really stupid.

I'd rather have a new gay superhero than make Cap gay, if that makes sense.

Making Cap gay just cheapens everything to me. Like he isn't a character anymore. Almost makes him an agenda or marketing tool.

You said it yourself. People like Sombra, a new interesting character who's Latina. They've react different if say... Mercy became Latina for some reason.

Besides, it's not because the important part of Captain America is not their sexual orientation. They could change that all they want and it's still Captain America.

He's straight and had many relationships with female characters. He was almost married twice to two different women in the comics.

Regardless, I think this line of thinking is a tad hypocritical. If Cap was gay, but it honestly wasn't a big part of his character, people would be defending it as a major part, if that makes sense.

Because the Fantastic Four isn't a very Japanese story about very Japanese people in a very Japanese society. When it's not an integral part to their identity, which it's not in a lot of Western stories, swapping them around is not an issue.

Both are dumb as ****. Either properly adapt the characters or make something else. This goes for white washing and affirmative action casting.

As a black and hispanic guy, I kind of find making the Human Torch black for no reason, and making the Invisible Woman adopted to be lame on two accounts. One, it was an un-needed change, they were always white and that's fine. It also showed they still didn't have the balls to have more than one black hero in a movie, so they couldn't be assed to at least keep their family dynamic accurate.

Don't get me started on that lame Dragon Ball movie.
