Green/Blue/Gary Oak replaces Giovanni as the 8th gym leader in Kanto once Giovanni leaves during the events of RBY. Oak becomes the GL during the events of GSC. This can be seen when you play through the Kanto circuit in the Gen 2 games.

Man, I've been lazy with the Pokemon polls lately, especially with Sun and Moon's release getting closer with each day.

That said, it's time for the next the Pokemon poll... actually, I'll just make this a question for today. Why? Because there are so many characters that fit the topic that the poll would have quite the huge list.

Who is your favorite Gym Leader from each region?

Mine would be:

Kanto: Sabrina
Johto: Tie between Morty and Jasmine
Hoenn: Norman
Sinnoh: Roark
Unova: Tie between Cilan/Chili/Cress (all grouped into one because I liked their gimmick) and Drayden
Kalos: Tie b/w Korrina and Clemont (liked him in the anime, and he was surprisingly a decent challenge)

Also, who is your favorite Gym Leader overall?

I'm going with Roark. Yes, he's just another Rock-type Gym Leader, but I like his design. He also had some interesting development in the anime, and you can't go wrong with having a Ramparts as his ace Pokemon (I know its just a Cranidos in the games, but in the anime and the post-game, it evolves into its evolution).

Sinnoh: Maylene and Volkner
Unova: Elesa and Roxie
Kalos: Valerie

Favorite overall? Probably have to go with Misty, the first water trainer.

I'm going to echo the Gen 2 statement because I played Soulsilver. . .Which is Gen 4 but is also a Gen 2 remake so same difference.

To add more to that since everyone else is saying it too, he's the only Gym Leader in the series that doesn't have a dedicated type. He just uses his normal team without a starter.

It's quite the debate...for a while I wasn't sure whether to call him "Blue" or "Green"...so I went with the middle ground: Gary, because of his anime counterpart lol. It's not caught up in the "Blue vs. Green" debate, which helps avoid confusion for me personally.

You know, looking back at what I said for favorite Gym Leaders, I'd say Brock was my favorite Gym Leader in Kanto and not Sabrina.

I only put down Sabrina because she was the only that particularly came to mind. Silly me... though I would rank her as my second favorite Kanto Gym Leader.

For the record Blue WAS Green in Japan since they had Red and Green instead of Red and Blue...

In North America, I believe Green, who was the first 'iteration' of Leaf (I say this loosely since they are pretty much different characters), was only in the manga...

But as far as I'm concerned, he's still ****-poop or whatever vulgar name you can give him as a kid. That's all he'll ever be.

Spoiler: Pokémon White final report

This one went pretty fast, though I feel it's mostly owed to the fact that White is one of my most played games in the franchise. I hit a snag in the middle as it kind of dragged at points and I wish the region wasn't so linear, but I still had a lot of fun playing through this game as I enjoyed the characters and exploring what the region gave to me. It also still has one of my favorite moments in the franchise and I always look forward to playing it once I get to that point in any given playthrough.

As for Pokémon:

Since this was basically a Pokémon I never used run, it was a given I'd use this girl. She did her job OK, she hit hard and most of the time she had good enough coverage to take care of multiple options, however I feel her defensive stats still let her down. HP is her only good stat in that area and it's not enough to sponge stronger hits and I had to pull her out for something else. It also didn't help her nature was Calm, so her only other good stat was weakened, so the poor thing couldn't attack as well as she could've. Still didn't mind using her in this playthrough, though I don't think I'd use Emboar again as I don't like how its stats are stacked up.

To this day, I still can't believe I never used this guy on an in-game playthrough, must've enjoyed using Sandile too much. Anyway, despite being Brave nature, this guy was awesome. Hit extremely hard, had good coverage, and good typing to deal with a lot of options offensively and defensively. I can't think of too many times where this guy let me down, he was definitely worth the slot.

The other Bug type that shown that not all early bug types suck. I asked earlier if I should use it or Petilil, and while I still plan on using the latter later on, Leavanny was a great team member. It got two very strong attacks in X-Scissor and Leaf Blade, a great speed and attack stat, and decent application for battling in-game trainers since it covers a lot of teams (especially Team Plasma). My only issue with it was that it can't take a hit at all, but I didn't expect it to and made sure to play it as such.

The other fossil mon, I honestly like this guy's design, but he's not that good in-game since he's meant to tank and tanks aren't as good as sweepers in the main game. Still was nice to use him as it was helpful for some battles, he also gets the award for the cleanest sweep of the game as he wiped the floor with Shauntal after getting a Shell Smash up.

I decided to use this guy after seeing how well it did in Only Human's playthrough and I'm glad I tried him out. He had a great ability to abuse, he could take a good amount of punishment and deal it back double, and had a good amount of coverage even though I didn't actively search around for TMs. His speed was a letdown, but I definitely don't regret using him and he's probably the third most useful member I had on my team.

I got this girl on a whim and she hit the ground running. She starts with two great attacks, gains another not too long after, and had great stats to sweep through most of her opponents. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for a flying type and don't care for Unfezant.

Had an epic showdown with his counterpart, taking the win from N's grasp. He was then switched back out for my main six, but it was fun using him for that one moment.

Next up is White 2 Challenge mode. I managed to get a White 2 cartridge for a pretty decent price (at least considering how inflated they've been with the Go boom) and with that in hand, I can finally try out this mode. It's supposed to be a bit more challenging due to the better teams and levels, but I'll see soon enough how effective it truly is.

Overall: BROCK. No other option. Kanto has the most gym leaders I see as really cool, but no one will ever, ever, EVER top Brock. Brock is one of the few reasons I watched the Sinnoh anime, and I haven't watched the anime since because he's not in it. I love Brock. There's no way I'd be able to choose anyone else.

The "names" of the protags aren't actually official, I don't think. They're just the names for when you don't wish to name them yourself, which are normally the opposite of your version, unless its you're character. This doesn't apply to Red and Blue.
