I've heard that as well, I don't know if its true or not but I have seen it in the forums.
Oct 3 is a holiday in Germany so they're getting the 3ds version on the 2nd as opposed to the 3rd or 4th.

How? Did you not see the toon link dair spamming sheik needle camping SDCC tournament?
lolol I share your feels :p

...actually, Gamescom might be the place to reveal something big for Smash. It's the last major gaming convention before Smash 3DS hits Japanese shelves.

That's IF Sakurai mentions something about it. Is Nintendo going to be an exhibitor at Gamescom?

Hope we get to see some more footage on YT afterwards. I'm hoping to see more interesting stuff not shown before.

Any new game play with different characters is welcome. I would be surprised if they were using a new build. That would add to some hype.

If they're using that ******* Best Buy build again, so help me. All that dinosaur is doing is spreading misinformation and stealing hope.

I don't realistically see a whole new demo build of the game this close to the launch of the 3DS version.

I'm so hyped for this. I can't wait to see 2 people fail at Mario bros 2. I hope they'll reveal a character and create so much hype like they did at comic con.

This. Not only did the T.Link spam dair but he spammed it really badly. It was so easy to read him, a whiffed dair is so punishable... and he whiffed almost every time.

The Bowser ditto at the end was pretty good, though.

Either way, I can't expect a lot of high-level play in a game that isn't even out yet, to be frank.

Another tournament? I am not vastly interested, I will just wait until a competitive scene develops for the game. I cannot stand watching casuals playing. It just bothers me when I would fair better in the tournament than most of the participants.
As bad as it sounds this is pretty on point. The Cringes I get when I watch some of that footage from SDCC. The Sheik running and spamming needles when they could've done something useful...The constant down air spam of Toon Link...

Items aren't helping my interest in Nintendo tournaments really. Neither is 4 player free for all.

Every major company is striking hard in Gamescom, but I think Nintendo just gonna play safe... Like always... Let see the tourment for more discovery. And I think there gonna use the E3 Build but a little bit tweaked.

I don't know so far I've enjoyed watching both the invitational and the SDCC event more then I did EVO or other Melee events that have taken place in the last year. Though admittively that's probably a difference in taste and my general interest in Smash 4 compared to Melee.

I just want gameplay footage, I don't care how bad the players are. Nintendo's players weren't so good either, and quite frankly, most of the participants in the E3 tournament performed very poorly (poor ol' Ken, Kirby throwspam, and Zero just running til time ran out). Anything I can find online is interesting to see. Besides, people assume that as soon as the game is released, past-game tournament players will immediately jump to being far more interesting to watch than your average casual player.

Played it today, where you fight at the 3DS Version as some kind of qualifier and if you win, you get an invitation at the Battle tower to earn a gold medal.
Dunno if it was streamt today, would be cool since I won at the end of the event one such match with Fox, but gave the medal to the kid who played Little Mac.

It was quite funny. My first match went like "omg this is worse than Brawl", but in the end I lined up around 15 times to play Smash again and again.

So this means that participation is endless? I'm gonna be there tomorrow and i was worried that you can only participate once because some posts made me believe that. Are there any other stations besides the "tournament" to play ssb?

Here's some gameplay. On Wiley Castle, and chaotic as usual. :3
Edit: Just noticed it, but what's going on with Giga Mac @2:02? lol :p

The thing about the SDCC tourney was... it wasn't an invitational like E3 was. It was 100+ casuals who wanted to play Smash 4 and happened to show up, and plus there were some actually good players there. You're just not going to see the same kind of play as you would watching pro-level Melee matches.

Even with E3, it's not like the pro players had time to really explore the meta.

When modeling characters, it is common to model them in a T-pose stance for rigging.
Seeing how this build isn't polished, i'm willing to bet that the there was some sort of hick up that caused the model to be unbinded from the rigg.

It looks like he got hit by the Spring and completely glitched out. Poor Mac.

Is this confirmed to still be the E3 build? It sure looks like it. That would explain any bugs like that.

Poor Giga Mac.

It 100% is the same build, as its the same characters and stages.
Also found a bug where the Blue Shell hit a Smashball while the Blue Shell's owner was ko'ed, resulting in breaking the Smalball and changing the background into a dark glow, but nobody could activate the final smash effect.

Is it me or has Nintendo been supporting smash like this ever since that Evo2013 controversy with Melee?
I think it's a coincidence. More like they are supporting hardcore gamers (aka smash tournaments) ever sine the Wii U has fallen flat on its face, they realized they can't rely solely on the casual gamers (who are fickle and quickly get bored of stuff fast) if they want long term success.

It just so happens the Wii U failing in sales has coincided with the time frame of EVO 2013.

Yeh I think the two bowser's at the end were on a completely different level gameplay-wise. Loved the bowser-claw percent reset. Felt really bad for the 2-min 4-stock toon link right before the end though. He got wrecked.

When is this tournament supposed to happen? Gamescom started today, but I can't find any solid news on this tourney.

Gamescom started two days ago already, but there is no stream. Maybe Nintendo uploads it on Youtube after translating what the host and the plays say (since its in german), but don't get your hopes up since its not a real tournee, more like a place where every lucky casual can win a medal.

If you ever manage to find a vid from Gamescom where a blond boy with a labcoat is playing Smash, then this might be me.

Personally, I'll be hoping to see more Link players and a newer build as well. A skilled main would be awesome, but unlikely. I'll be fine with casual Links though for the sake of analysis, and it would be nice to see Ike and Captain Falcon.
I've mained Link for a very long time, nerfed or buff I'll keep at him :). Realistically, as always, I'll most likely have to make him a side main if he still isn't up to par though.

I can relate. Luckily, that doesn't seem to be the case. He looks better than ever so far. If we can have Link be good in both Smash 4 and PM, that would be the best thing ever. :awesome:
