Looks like Nintendo is doing it again and will be hosting another tournament at Gamescom. It will be located in Cologne, Germany, and Nintendo will be offering those chosen for commentator positions a copy of the game on both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, as well as their choice of three Amiibo figurines once they’re available for launch. It will begin on August 14th to 17th. Both versions of the game will be there.

What do you guys think about this? Do you think more characters will be playable, or perhaps even a new character reveal? I'll update the OP when new information arises. If you have any, please share it. This is my first thread by the way. :p

Is it me or has Nintendo been supporting smash like this ever since that Evo2013 controversy with Melee?

They probably respected the community ever since then, and wanted to make up with the Smash 4 invitational. I love the changes Nintendo's been making, and I hope they keep it up.

Appears that way doesn't it? Can we at least get a build that isn't five to six months old to test? That would be sweet. Alas another tournament another time for the E3 build to be shown.

Also this thread my be merged into another since there is already a thread for this.

I hope these tournaments continue yearly, something about a tournament with items on is better then regular tournaments

Another tournament? I am not vastly interested, I will just wait until a competitive scene develops for the game. I cannot stand watching casuals playing. It just bothers me when I would fair better in the tournament than most of the participants.

I see. It seems I'm always late to the party lol. I haven't made a single post that hasn't already been made. Hope this one isn't blocked.

Yep. I get the same feeling. Hopefully they'll be better this time around.

Haha I know what you mean. I felt that way watching SDCC. :D

Hopefully it'll be new revisions with some different characters we haven't seen in action yet.

Personally, I'll be hoping to see more Link players and a newer build as well. A skilled main would be awesome, but unlikely. I'll be fine with casual Links though for the sake of analysis, and it would be nice to see Ike and Captain Falcon.

If they talk about a surprise there, don't overhype

Yep. The 3DS tournament was dissapointing enough on its own.
Was it really that bad? I wasn't able to watch but I figured it was at least informative or something.

I hope there is a new build as well, would love to see some changes if any since the release date is approaching rather quickly.

All except for the finals were dissapointing. Only good players remained. And also the part where they hinted at Falco/stun lasers lol. Most of the stuff they went on about was either painfully obvious, or was already known. But hey, I'm sure some people learned from them (the commentators).

A tournament to weed out the strongest fighters. The top 3 will go against a Level 50 Mario Amiibo.
The fighters won't stand a chance.

Hmm, that's to be expected since it was a tournament anyone could get into if I heard correctly. And I guess it was just more of Nintendo gaining more information than anything which helps us(the players) in the long run.

If it's a newer build I hope there's some Ike in it :denzel:
Lol, even though I'm not an Ike main I do want to see him in action. I want to see if he still has that power from Brawl.

True. And me too. Ike is one of my secondaries in PM. I just hope he gets buffed from Brawl. Power alone didn't help him in viability terms too much with how slow he was. There are rumors that he has loads of super armor on his most powerful moves though. Hope this proves to be true.

That sounds a little broken to be honest but, I would have to see it in action. If he is as strong as he was in brawl with some speed increase and decrease in move lag, he is already better. Giving him super armor like Bowser has in PM is just to much. His smashes (F-smash) should be a reward in my opinion, it already kills most of the cast around 60% - 70%. Plus it isn't really hard to kill with his tilts either since they have great knock back as well.

I wasn't serious, I have no idea what role amiibos will play, where did you even hear about this tournament? Post a link to where you heard about this in the OP if anything.
Done. But what you said made sense lol. I'll go ahead and read the article. :p

That's not broken at all. Ike is pretty slow, so it can be easy to avoid his armored attacks. Same goes with Bowser in PM. If you get hit, it's your own fault. That's how I go about it.

I hope it's a Smash Wii U tournament, i'll admit, watching the 3DS version got boring, even though it had Luigi, Toon Link, and Yoshi as extras.

Pretty much assuming it's going to be the same E3 build up until release.

Not to be rude, Morbid, but your comment has to be the most etilist thing I've ever read in my entire life...

I'd like to see a new build but the e3 build wasn't to bad. The more gameplay, the better right?

Yeah, I think I've watched enough of the E3 build at this point, since it's probably to be the same I'm probably not going to watch it unless they change the rules and completely scrap the 4 player FFA matches. I'm not sure if they're even streaming it though.

I've heard that as well, I don't know if its true or not but I have seen it in the forums.
The 3DS version comes 1 day early in germany. That's because the actual release day is an holiday there and all stores are closed. So Nintendo postponed it a day. That counts for the retail version. The EShop version still gets released as usual.
