So I might as well say it over here.

The third party poll has resumed it's development but some changes had to happen. Originally I was going to do exactly the same kind of poll. I'd give character choices for every new IP. For the first party poll, that had a clear beginning and end, so it was easily doable.

But third parties are literally endless. I couldn't do it. I either had to change the poll or not release it. Returning franchises will still have lots of characters to choose from. But new franchises will be done in a different way from here on.

Each company will have a page with all their IPs on it. I will be asking what IP you want to get a character in Smash. It's not as exact as it was before and I know we would get as much detailed data as before. But it was too big to do at the scale I was attempting. At least it was too big to do on my own.

So yeah, when the third party poll is out, you'll be voting for characters with returning franchises and IPs for brand new franchises.

Any questions or concerns?
can I vote for Tails multiple times?

Another, perhaps odd question, is there anywhere on this site I might be able to find threads about melee from around when the game released? I'm interested in seeing players' reactions to Marth and Roy being in that game, what with them at the time being from a japanese-only series and whatnot.

I'd probably be the only person who would click on it but will SRW be in the Bandai Namco section?

Voting for franchisees instead of characters ought to produce some interesting results.

You may vote for Tails.

Once.

I wonder if it was cause things changed since about 10 years ago... or maybe it being an avatar is a lot different from a once in a blue moon post? I dunno.

I'm pretty sure it's not as stingy now, but I could be wrong. XD

I feel like that show is entirely responsible for basically all of DK's memes being crass.

Try to name a DK combo without using the word "dong" challenge (impossible).

Considering we have a user here with shirtless Wario with "W" nipples as his profile pic, I'd wager an official image of Thicc Kong would be allowed. lol

You can still do an SSE style story with in game graphics and no actual CG cutscenes. I’d be totally fine with that. You don’t need CG for a fun adventure and character interaction.
Ngl, I sort of figured something like that or Namco's 'X' games would be how they'd handle cutscenes and whatnot...

So I might as well say it over here.

If I may ask, I don't suppose that list of Namco IPs I listed for you helped in any way?

But they had to play it safe all throughout Ultimate because they were only adding a small amount of newcomers in the base, FP1, and FP2.
Ah yes. Because when I think of playing it safe, I think of Piranha Plant.

We already know that a new Mario Kart is coming, and given how much Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold it's clear that they'll sell a crapton of units with Mario Kart 9 alone
I mean, it's not like a crapton of people bought the WiiU because of Mario Kart 8 alone.

How much did Darth pay you to say this?

Keep in mind a lot of times people don't report things. So it's likely it's okay, but there's always that chance.

If you're not sure, just ask a Moderator/Admin. A lot of stuff gets swept under the radar because people aren't keen on simply reporting a potential issue. Common everywhere, though.

I played Ys IX a few months ago and i'm all for Adol Cristin joining the battle.
White Cat as an assist trophy would be cool too, however i have no idea what Ys game will they focus on....Ys X peraphs? In that case i guess the girl party member from Ys X probably has more chances to show up as AT. (Havent played Ys X).

What about blue/green?
Hes the first champion for like 3 minutes!
Did you forget about Lance?

Damn, I did everything I can do, then.

I mean, it's not like a crapton of people bought the WiiU because of Mario Kart 8 alone.
...Did you seriously look at the best-selling Wii U game and think "yeah, that's not a killer app"?

What sort of arbitrary gatekeeping do you have for the definition of a "killer app"?
Can one even exist in your eyes if a console sold less than X million units?

I argue that Wii U would've even less than it did without it. I remember boosting sales a crap ton beyond what it was initially
People got a free game if they bought the OG Mario Kart 8. People like Mario Kart. People like free stuff. It's perfect.

I think what Darth was trying to say is Mario Kart alone isn’t enough to guarantee a console’s success. Wii U was a huge failure despite having a brand new Mario Kart game. Not that Mario Kart isn’t a huge console seller but that you usually need more than just one big game. I don’t want to speak for him though, that’s just how I interpreted it. I think that argument is logical.

And Riley's argument was likely that Mario Kart would always be one of the higher-selling games of any given console when even a failure like the Wii U has it up there, and the Switch 2 is unlikely to be an exception. If it ever is though, this would speak more of the games that topped it than of Mario Kart itself.

Oh, then that’s true too. I guess I missed that part. I think it’s pretty much a given that Mario Kart will be one of the best selling games on any given console but it isn’t a guarantee for that console’s success in general.

It's not a guarantee, that is true, but it'll also never be the reason why a console failed either.

Mario Kart, Smash and Pokemon are too consistent as killer apps to ever be anything else. I would argue Splatoon is as well given the only one below 10 million units sold is the first one and even then, it sold damn well for a Wii U game but its sales history isn't as long as those other three.

What if, hypothetically speaking, Mario Kart 9 and Pokemon Gen 10 come out and are absolutely terrible to the point that no one can really argue it? I don’t think that scenario is likely but it could be a big part of why a console might fail.

Pokémon seems to be well on its way but even though there’s a lot of negative criticism, it’s still selling like crazy so I’m not sure what it could possibly take for the games not to sell. So yeah, I don’t see that scenario as likely at all.

Also Zelda since every home console has at least one game in the top ten with the Wii being the exception (TP is 13th).
Pokemon Gen 10 come out and are absolutely terrible to the point that no one can really argue it?
Pokemon is still going to sell well regardless of quality and games being more controversial at this point.

...Did you seriously look at the best-selling Wii U game and think "yeah, that's not a killer app"?
Are you really trying to argue Mario Kart isn't a killer app on the basis of the Wii U not selling well?
The argument that was being made was that Mario Kart on it's own is enough to sell a "crapton" of an entirely new console.

The WiiU proves that isn't true. Because it never sold a crapton of units, despite having Mario Kart 8.

I'm saying Mario Kart alone can't support the Switch 2 for it's entire first year.

I argue that Wii U would've even less than it did without it.
Of course it would. But it wasnt' able to support the WiiU all on it's own. As evidenced by the fact that...it didn't.

I think what Darth was trying to say is Mario Kart alone isn’t enough to guarantee a console’s success. Wii U was a huge failure despite having a brand new Mario Kart game.
Exactly correct.

It's not a guarantee, that is true, but it'll also never be the reason why a console failed either.
Good thing nobody said it was then.

Fingers crossed that Gen 10 will be great. At the very worst, I’ll still enjoy the initial playthrough just for discovering new Pokemon as I play. It’s just frustrating that the series could be so much more than it is. At least the new Digimon game is looking cool. I really liked Cyber Sleuth and Hacker’s Memory and this new game is even getting an English dub.

Something that kind of frustrates me is how much games sell on name brand alone despite their quality. For example, Xenoblade games look like they have a ton more effort put into them than Pokemon but sell only a small fraction of what Pokemon does. What incentive do these bigger games like Pokemon have to get better if people are going to buy them regardless of quality?

It’s also a bit weird that no other company has really gone all out with a big monster collecting and battling game to try to rival Pokemon. Most of the other games in the genre are pretty low budget. Maybe it’s for that exact reason because they don’t have Pokémon’s name brand and they’d be very unlikely to sell as well. Palworld seems to have done well for itself even if it’s not really the same genre.
