Well there’s this thing called sarcasm that people use to make fun of other people, for example you would mock a person for liking something that you yourself don’t like. so by describing bayo as fun me calling it an oxymoron is implying that bayo can’t be fun and ergo makes fun of you at the same time. we call this banter where I come from
We call this trolling actually lol. So maybe not... do that.

Besides which an oxymoron is actually very specific.

Jumbo Shrimp is a good example.

What you're doing is sarcasm yes but it seems mean spirited and a downer because we can't hear you say it or see the look on your face or anything other than a droll comment. You got this, just relax and enjoy the forum.

Why do you feel the need to make fun of someone just because they like something that you don’t? Everyone has their own tastes in gaming and no one is wrong for liking any particular thing. I think we need to try to be a bit more respectful. If you don’t like something. rather than insulting it or mocking anyone, maybe just say that you don’t personally care for it if you feel the need to say anything at all.
I think it’s a cultural thing, everyone in Scotland does it

Can I change the subject? Anybody want any newcomers that don't get talked about? Also I read a japanese news article and people in the comments mentioned Felyne (from Monster Hunter), Icey (Icey), and Adol Christian (Ys). ever heard of 'em
Yes. Most of my most wanted characters never get talked about unless I personally bring them up. Some of my most wanted include the Battletoads, Magus, Fulgore, Illidan, Sarah Kerrigan, Gengar, Goomba, Lu Bu, Shionne, Jinx or Vi, Medusa, Zegram, Raziel, Jena Anderson, Xemnas, Sub-Zero and a ton more.

Illiadan is an assist in Card Sagas Wars. It also has a playable Master chief, Samus, Link and Cloud

And to answer my own question I think Khameleon is a symbol of Nintendo for Mortal Kombat. Always been a nintendo exclusive character and is like many characters combined.

I think it’s a cultural thing, everyone in Scotland does it

I used to make fun of close friends that know I'm joking but I wouldn't do that with strangers or clueless people

Edit: And I only did it in private group chats where I knew everybody not in public boards

I'm not opposed to sarcasm and culturally speaking my own humours are indeed much influenced strongly by both the UK and China. But... In this setting I try to keep myself from behind a firm lense so to speak because this forum attracts international members and it's potentially troublesome if a comment is made in jest or is somehow dark for example, but someone doesn't "get it."

That and quite to the point sarcastic one shots seem to be best in... moderation (ha!). Like if your posts are 80 percent "something sucks" and 20 percent whatever that's 80 of 100 times someone who doesn't like reading about something sucking has to sift past you, hit ignore, etc. By the time you're done your loss are viewed by like 3 people and "guests."

Is that the legacy of fogbadge? Nah.

Not sure about the others but Adol has been mentioned here before. In fact, I brought him up a few times myself.

I just Googled it and here’s what I found:

Icey is a 2D side-scrolling hack-and-slash video game developed by FantaBlade Network and published by X.D. Network. It was released for iOS, macOS, Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4 in November 2016, for Android in October 2017, and Nintendo Switch in May 2018.

Knowing absolutely nothing else about the game, her design is pretty cool (heh) and she is on a Nintendo Console so I’d be down for it. Apparently, the game got a 9/10 on Steam so that’s something.

Oh, she actually looks pretty nice. Unfortunately, people would likely accuse her of being "another Fire Emblem character" due to the artstyle.

Some wounds just don't heal...

So this has come up before but I never really figured out so, what do you all really think of Pokemon trainer?

Personally, I love the concept and when the character came to us in Brawl, I was happy with the 3 Pokemon, and the ability to change in between them during a fight, and in Ultimate I think the Pokemon Trainer is a solid character.

Should they stick around?
Get different pokemon?
Transformation gimmicks suck?
Could we have multiple trainers with 3 Pokemon each, which represents their "deck" so to speak (my card deck was usually water type heavy)?
I think the Trainer is fine as it is.

You can't change the Pokemon without making them a completely different Pokemon and there's not really a point in trying to slap the same concept on different, less-well-known mons.

Yeah, Master Chief isn’t among my most wanted but I still like the idea for just the potential matchups you could have in Smash. I’ve never played a Halo game so I don’t have a strong connection to the character but I admit I’m sold just from those matchups. That’s often something I think about a lot when coming up with newcomers I’d love to see. I’m not sure how many others really think about pairings like that.
Yea, putting aside other poster comments which tries to find different characters to fit into each of my examples, i think chief has a lot of different "dream" matchups you can easily think of within the scope of one single character. That's kind of the beauty of it with a game where slots are limited and all.
Console mascot matchups (i wasn't actually suggesting that console wars are good!), character matchups with actual super-soldier monikers in their games, genre mascots clashing with each other...there's a lot to really take in.

Adol has had some following post Terry. Ys and Falcom have a solid legacy to them. Falcom is one of the last old school Japanese devs left that is not involved in Smash yet. Ys also is still an active series: Ys 8 and 9 did well and are pretty solid games. Ive personally been calling Adol a sleeper pick for Smash since late Ultimate.

Also Sakurai knows of Ys and its historical importance, so that's neat.

Ohh, someone mentioned monster hunter!
What about using a stories monstie +rider as a rep?

Your standard fare hunter has awful frame data on anything that isn't dual blades and is slow as heck, while most monsters are too big, but the chibi-fied RPG equivalent faces no such problems! Also kinship moves would work well as final smashes.

This is far from the only time you've been called out on one of your attempts at "humor", as you describe it.

Maybe it's a sign that you should reevaluate and change how you communicate with people here.
I’ve tried explaining my communication problems to people like you before but they just ignore it and tell to just snap my fingers and make everything better. So excuse me if I’m reluctant to take the advice of people who thinks the best way to get people to change is to be condescending, patronising and bark orders at them

Monster Hunter Stories 2 is the only MH game I’ve ever played. I really like the idea of a rider character as the MH Smash rep. That way, we’d get the best of both worlds with a Hunter and a playable Rathalos.

Kinda sad he's not actually going to interact with Mario himself though.
They've only confirmed that there's 3 playable characters but haven't denied the possiblity of I'm at least meeting Mario in a cutscene or something. Would be a missed opportunity if they don't though

My view of DLC characters in a cutscene heavy game? Make sure they interact cutscene-wise with at least some of the base characters. Not just bosses. Make it nice and fun. They aren't just quick skins, after all. This isn't, say, Mario Kart. It's still a Tactical RPG at the end of the day, with some character interaction(YMMV on how "good" said interaction is).

Kind of. My most-wanteds are fairly talked about, even the likes of Spyro who while people like to disregard his chances, are still fairly talked about at least relatively to borderline unmentioneds.

Lesser talked about characters I'd want would like Glitch from Metal Arms (Blizzard owns the IP so he'll be Microsoft eventually) but the one I REALLY want is Jack of Blades from Fable.

I won’t lie, it’s kind of a bummer having such wildly different tastes compared to the general Smash community despite Smash being among my favorite franchises ever. Watching that top 50 video hit hard when I didn’t really see any of my most wanted characters make the list. Still, I’m generally accepting of anyone overall but it would be nice to at least get one character I’m really hyped about in the future.

Tastes don't bother me. As long as one is respectful, it's all good. But it's also why "hot takes" don't exist to me effectively. They aren't hot takes, cause in reality? Everybody has unique thoughts.

I just wish people would be more respectful about said tastes. :/

I totally agree. I always try to be respectful to everyone on here. I completely realize that Smash isn’t made to suit my personal tastes and I’m happy for everyone that gets their favorites. I did get K. Rool and Sephiroth in Ultimate, both of which were at the top of my most wanted lists so it’s not like I get nothing. Joker was pretty high as well. I just wish there were a few more people that shared my tastes just so I don’t feel like I’m being a bother whenever I talk about any of them if no one is interested.

That’s a solid list. None of my absolute favorites other than X and Zero but I feel like this would please a lot of people. X and Zero would be one of my favorite Smash characters overall though. I really want Dixie but I’d much rather see her as a unique character rather than an echo. I could live with an echo though since it’s better than nothing. The Pokémon completely depends on which one is chosen. Some, I’d be hyped for and others I wouldn’t care too much.
X is one of my favourite fictional characters period, so his inclusion would definitely make the game for me. I remember being blown away just seeing X in Mega Man's Final Smash in the April Direct for Smash for and being able to play as him through a Mii costume. Zero also felt too cool and popular to leave out, so I figured a tag team between the two would work well. It gets both of them into the game, their friendship is a major theme in the series, and character swapping is already in Xtreme 2, X7, and X8. I think it works really well and is a cool idea!

Admittedly, It would be better to give both Dixie and Shadow unique movesets. However, I had a very tough time thinking of echoes lol. I got the idea of Tetra and Galacta Knight from mods and thought they'd work well with Skull Kid and Bandana Dee's inclusions. Jin does feel like a slight stretch as a Kazuya echo, I wanted a Ken-style echo and I still think it works by modeling him after Tekken 3 and Devil Jin. Shadow was moved to an echo so I could add Tails as well, but Dixie just kind of ended up as an echo because I wanted a fifth echo to round things out.

I also hope Gen 9 has some good candidates for a Smash fighter. I had multiple Gen 7 mons that I thought would be great in the base game, but I never really had any desire to see any of the Gen 8 'mons added aside from maybe Toxtricity, so I definitely agree that Pokemon can be hit or miss in terms of newcomer potential. I recently had a dream that Springatio evolved into a cowboy-themed Pokemon of all things, so I'd be interested in something like that lmao.

Speculation is a bit weird to me these days. I didn't ever have a most wanted for years, wanted Pyra/Mythra after playing XC2 in 2018 (was also my vote in the sourcegaming poll at the time), got Pyra/Mythra in march 2021 and have just been satisfied since then. Didn't really start to want for anyone else. At the very least it means I am open to most character selections these days. You might have to explain any region locked or Sony ones as I don't have much experience with those.

Almost certainly not from the ballot: Incineroar, Plant, Joker, Hero, Terry, Byleth, Min Min, Steve, Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra, Kazuya.
COMPLETELY disagree about Hero and Steve. Not even sure what argument you can make about it being totally believable that Steve was high on the ballot. It's one of the most popular games in the world.

As for Hero, remember that Nintendo is able to see the results of the Ballot by region, and that Dragon Quest is one of the most popular franchises in Japan. And while I'm sure Hero probably wasn't that high overall, I bet you he was top 10, if not top 5, in Japan. The same could also be possible for Terry and Latin America. If Nintendo wanted to make an inclusion target to appeal to that region, the Ballot likely told them that Terry was the guy to add.

And while Sephiroth was probably not super high on the ballot himself, I'm betting Cloud's position on the Ballot directly influenced Sephiroth's inclusion.

And I just disagree with you that Ridley and Simon weren't a result of the Ballot.

If we're talking about the whole "super soldier" thing, Doom Slayer fits that too since the 2016 game.
I consider Doom Slayer to be more of the "Space Marine" archetype.

I just want to see more characters that have a bit of an edge to them but are still highly stylistic. I’m not exactly sure how to classify the kind of character I’m talking about. Basically, someone like Illidan, Kerrigan, Raziel, Death (Darksiders), Fulgore, or Magus.
They're called Edgelords. :p

All these good looking, colourful characters... And then there is Noah. Dude is so washed out he looks like he lost a fight with a laundry.

actually that could be an interesting topic, how many of ultimates new comers did you vote for on the ballot everyone?
I mean...you only get one vote. And mine was for Simon. So...100%?

I voted for Simon Belmont.
I only voted for one, which was Simon.

He was intended to be my very last MW until about 2019 when I decided that Hayabusa (a character I was only supporting at that time) seemed too good of a character to not be my next MW for Smash.

I think anyone could have been on the ballot except characters who didn't exist yet by the time it closed. Which was when? I don't remember lol. Before Smash 4 sometime.
No, Smash 4 was out well before the Ballot. The Ballot was, like, a month before the Cloud DLC was announced.

If Bayo comes back next Smash, I kinda hope she brings Viola with her, be it as an assist trophy or a fellow fighter.
Jeanne Echo seems like a no-brainer.

Transformation gimmicks suck. Each of those Pokemon should be a separate character, each with their own Trainer(Red for Charizard, Blue for Squirtle, Leaf for Ivysaur).

And no, they should not be swapping out the Pokemon or adding MORE Trainers with multiple Pokemon.

I could definitely see Felyne.

Adol is, like...the MOST generic of anime swordboys, ever. But he could still possibly get in just because of legacy. Estelle is the infinitely more based Falcom pick though.

Action platformers are different from mascot platformers.

Ryu and Simon are in the Mega Man category, not the Mario/Sonic category.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Jeanne, but if we're getting a second Bayo fighter I would definitely prefer the more unique one. Viola is also probably the closest we could get to Vergil if we don't get Dante next Smash.

She's also just pretty cool. I like her fighting style and her more dorky take on the Bayonetta style.
