Unless you have a specific question, your best bet for pointers would probably be the guide and grab release stickies, but other than that i'll say that bair and eggs are your friend XD

I'd say your best bet is to ask specific questions, or revert to the many help threads.

And we'll be the judge of good. jk :]

I don't like referring people to my own threads....
But the Thread Thread should have a lot of stuff that's good for beginners to know, and definitely check out the stickies.

Some general pointers:

-Learn how to recover. Specifically, how to use Egg Toss BEFORE using your second jump. If you have tap jump off, this is easy. It's easy to do with tap jump ON if you know how, but it requires some knowledge of how his second jump works in order to do it as effectively. Basically, pick your flavor now while it's easy to change things up.

-Learn to poke. Neutral A, neutral air, ALL of Yoshi's tilts. They all have UNGODLY speed, and are VITAL to his game. This part is especially overlooked among Yoshi neophytes.

-Learn to use Egg Toss. It is INCREDIBLY important to EVERY aspect of Yoshi's game.

-Learn the ATs, especially Chain Grab and Grab Release stuff. Check out the dedicated threads for more info on these.

-Learn all of the throw variations. ESPECIALLY his dash throw and pivot throws. They mean WORLDS against some opponents.

-Back air. It has a long hitbox, snuffs out projectiles like you wouldn't BELIEVE, pokes shields, does damage, and lasts a long time. Use this move.

Those are the absolute basics. As previously stated, read up on the stickies, especially the Thread Thread. They will prove completely invaluable to you as you progress. Good luck, and happy Yoshi-ing!

thanks! :chuckle:

sorry i haven't checked up here in a while.... i was playing some games recently and was wondering how one would use >B effectively. i don't find it all that helpful except that its priority can stop most anything. but the end lag afterwards pretty much crushes any opportunity of comboing out of it (as far as i can tell). how do you guys use it?

>B is good for a couple of things.

1. Getting from point A to point B with maximum acceleration.
2. Punishing lag from a surprising distance with tip #1
3. Killin' Pikiminz

never use a running grab as an approach! It has horrible startup lag, an even worse ending lag, and can thus punish you at the worst times. Only use to return the favor of punishing, or if you can laglessly chain a hit into the grab, like Falco's jab to CG.
