New technique? Opposite direction ledge jump

I searched to see if this was known already, but couldn't find anything, so if this is already known please don't eat me >.<

When I was in the wifi waiting room, I discovered that when Pikachu is on the ledge, he can jump off facing away from the stage. Normally when doing a ledge hop you have to press away and then jump, and Pikachu is facing the stage, but there's a certain angle of the "control stick" (I forgot the name >.>) that makes Pikachu jump off immediately facing the opposite direction. If it's angled a little higher Pikachu does the normal jump form the ledge, if a little lower Pikachu still jumps off immediately but he's facing the normal direction. It counts as a midair jump, so after he does it he can't jump again until he reaches the ledge/stage.

I find it hard to do consistently, but I've accomplished it in the waiting room and final destination, so I don't think it's a glitch. I've tried it with one other character but couldn't do it, but that might be because of my horrible tech skill.

It might be useful for edgeguarding... I dunno.

@global: A good way to test whether or not it's walljumping is to try to recreate it on a stage like Halberd (the floating platform part) or Delfino.... stages where there's no wall below the ledge to jump off of.

But it sounds like it was a walljump.

I know it's wall jumping. I do this a lot by accident whenever I play on FD. I think Pika is the only character who can do this. Not the wall jump part, but the being able to instantly wall jump after leaving the edge.

Really? Cool. I've honestly never noticed anything like it, lol, now I gotta try it.

Just tested it.
Its an immediate wall jump after dropping the ledge.
Im pretty sure its pikachu exclusive, unless a character under his weight class can wall jump as well.

No lol.

Any character with a walljump can do it, I do it all of the time (on purpose) with Diddy, lol.

FD, BF, PS1, Frigate, Yoshi's, PS2 (way under the stage,) Pictochat, GG, and RC all have places (near ledges) where you can walljump.

Mario, Samus, Fox, Pikachu, Diddy, Sheik, Falco, Squirtle, Wolf, Lucario, Sonic, TL, and CF can all walljump.

Diddy, Sheik, Squirtle, and Lucario can all wallcling.

FD, PS1, and GG have places where THIS specific type of walljump can occur*

Well then, I guess this thread was pointless. :/

Someone should include this in a list of things Pikachu can do though, because I don't think many people know about this.

Edge jumping is common, sometimes accidental, sometimes out of skill.
Either way, its known, and its not pikachu exclusive from what ive heard.

Nah the thread was perfect, as I can tell you right now some of the scrubs who post on the Pika forums didn't know about it ;)

I think it is exclusive to pikachu since its pretty much done uncontrollably cuz with other chars u can control whether u walljump or not.

Read this entire thread before posting...
Anybody with a wall jump can do a ledge jump, it just requires severe timing, and maybe certain stages.
And even so, it isnt very useful if it expires your Mid-air Jump and leaves you reversed, allowing the opponent to ledge guard with ease.

I was messing around with this idea and tested it out a little more, and out how to get it to work.

Yes as everyones said it is a wall jump, and it does take one of your jumps. I think everyone can do it, however I believe for heavyweight characters its extremely hard and impractical to do. I tried shiek, sonic, pikachu, and fox. I could do it with pikachu and sonic consistently, I could not do it with shiek or fox at all, so it is possible some characters cant do it. I tested on FD, and Delfino. On Delfino I could not do it on the main floaty stage part, however I could do it on the tall green pillar part, so you can get an idea of where this will work.

As for doing it, while on the ledge if you jam backwards and jump at the same time like a smash attack, youll do the instant wall jump. The timing is slightly tricky. You have to make sure you can leave the ledge or youll just buffer a jump.

This seems both practical and useful for pikachu in particular and possibly a few other characters. Im sure some of you guys will start to test out some of the cool things you can do with it. Good job global.

I'm confused...... if it's a wall jump, wouldn't only characters who can wall jump be able to do it? @.@

Man, I suck at understanding technical stuff without visuals. ;;

You always have the option to, y'know, not read the thread if it bothers you so much. =P

Sorry, I meant all characters that can wall jump.

Also, apparently this only does work on a few stages :/ It just so happened to be the two stages I picked when I had time to test it.

Issacard its not a 'normal' wall jump, you cant normally wall jump from a ledge. Reading my entire post would answer your question.
